According to Todd Zolecki’s Twitter account, the Phillies have signed starting pitcher Joe Blanton to a three-year, $24 million contract.
This isn’t quite the $10.25 million that he filed for on Tuesday, but he should still be happy with this contract.¬† The 29-year old isn’t elite, but he’s a good innings eater that helps fill out a rotation.¬† There was no shame in his 4.05 ERA and you pretty much know what you are going to get when he takes the mound every five days.¬†

The Phillies will have at least two years now of a rotation of Halladay (did you hear about that trade?), Hamels, Blanton and Happ. That’s a very strong rotation (the full strength will be determined by Hamels), especially if Happ keeps it going.¬†
Still, everyone is going to continue to wonder….what if they kept Cliff Lee?
