According to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News, former Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard will be bounced from the starting lineup against the Colts today, presumably in favor of Dwight Lowery.
Cimini thinks that he will be relegated to nickel duty and possibly bumped all the way down to dime. Ouch.
There have been rumblings of his demotion after he was removed for a bit last week against the Chargers. Lito struggled against the Colts and Austin Collie in their last meeting so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Still, Lito has a lot of championship game experience while Lowery has none. I’m not sure how important that is, but you have to assume that whoever plays opposite Darrelle Revis is going to get picked on. No QB with half a brain wants any part of Revis right now.
The good news for Lito is that Cimini does expect him to dress. The fact that that even has to be mentioned tells you how far out of favor he has fallen with the Jets.
I’ll be curious to see how he is used today.
