Addressing some McNabb trade speculation

There is a lot of speculation by the local and national media about what the Eagles will do with Donovan McNabb.¬† Will he be traded?¬† Where will he go?¬† What will they get for him?¬† But it’s all just that…speculation.

Doesn’t mean it’s not fun to discuss!¬† So, let’s.¬†

ESPN’s Matt Mosley takes a look at three possible destinations for McNabb.¬† He notes that John Clayton said on ESPNNews recently that if Favre retires, the Vikings will make a major play for Donovan.¬† This isn’t a crazy notion.¬† Obviously there is the Childress connection and Mosley astutely notes that McNabb’s QB coach at Syracuse is now in the same position with the Vikings.¬† What’s all this mean?¬† Absolutely nothing.¬† But the Vikings are a very likely landing spot for Donovan if Favre does us all a favor and goes away for ever.¬† They were seconds from the Super Bowl this year and Donovan would keep them in position to get back to that point.

Mosley then mentions the Cardinals if Kurt Warner retires.¬† Considering Matt Leinart has never done much on the field other than for people to conclude that he’s a bust, McNabb could possibly be shipped out west.¬†

Now take this for what it’s worth, but Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official website says no chance on a McNabb trade.

“If Warner leaves, Matt Leinart is going to have the first crack at starting quarterback.

“The Cardinals aren‚Äôt going to try and trade for Donovan McNabb. They aren‚Äôt going to give up draft picks for an older QB who is going to be looking for a new contract (McNabb is scheduled to be a free agent after 2010). Maybe McNabb, who has a house in Chandler, becomes more attractive if he hits the free-agent market after next season, but that‚Äôs assuming the Eagles let him leave. But there will be no trade, even if the Eagles decide to deal him.”

Mosley’s last mentions the Cleveland Browns.¬† It’s a logical pick because of the obvious connections with Tom Heckert and Mike Holmgren.¬† The Browns were 10-6 in 2007 when they had decent QB play.¬† Could McNabb get them back there?¬† Not sure because so much of the rest of the team stinks.¬† But they do run the ball well and that would help someone like Donovan tremendously (you listening, Andy?).¬† Personally, I think if Heckert wanted to pilfer a QB from Philly he’d go after the much younger Kolb.¬†¬†

So where do you think McNabb could wind up (and of course staying put is certainly an option)?  What would accept as compensation?
