Former Eagles left tackle Tra Thomas has been informed that he will be released by the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. The team will also be parting ways with wide receiver Torry Holt.
I’m not surprised by either of these moves. Thomas was in spot duty all year and started only three games. The Jaguars needed to address the position of left tackle in the offseason for sure, so signing Thomas made a lot of sense. However, when draft day rolled around and they used high picks on Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton, Thomas’ fate was sealed. You know he’d most likely be one and done with the Jags at that point.
As for Holt, he didn’t have a terrible year. 51 catches for 722 yards isn’t a disgrace, but it’s not great either. Especially when you consider that he’s 33-years old and just can’t separate from defenders anymore.
Both players were informed of the team’s decision recently, but nothing can be official before this week. The Jags reportedly want to give both guys as much time as possible to catch on with other clubs.
