Is It Wise To Tamper With Howard’s Stance?

Howard If it’s not broken then don’t try to fix it.  That’s what I have to say to Bob Brookover’s article in Philly.com about Ryan Howard changing his stance and where he stands in the batter’s box.

Philly.com’s Bob Brookover wrote an article today about the changes that are being made to Howard’s stance and location at the plate.

I don’t understand the thinking in the changing of how and where Howard stands at the plate.

This guy is a history-making power hitter but the Phils are foolishly trying to change something that doesn’t need to be changed.

What do they want to change about averaging about 50 home runs and a 140 RBI’s?

The guy is breaking records while putting up power numbers that have never been done in the history of Major League Baseball, yet there’s all this talk about his problems at the plate.

Howard This is foolish.  Leave this man alone or you could run the risk of destroying a Hall of Fame career.  Let him hit his 50 home runs and let him strike out.  Let him drive in 140 runs and let him strike out.

It will equal another division crown and another shot at winning the World Series.  What is the problem?

Yes Howard can improve so he’s striking out less and hitting .320, but why risk it.

Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley don’t hit over .300.  Shouldn’t these guys be hitting over .320, .330 or .340?  Are they tampering with their stances?

Rollins hit .250 last year which is 47 points off his MVP year.  It’s also 37 points off of his 2008 numbers.

Utley’s .292 and .282 averages the last two years is 50 to 40 points lower than the best average of his career. .332.

No one talks about and no one is tampering with these guys stances.  Why is it aimed at Howard?

Manager Charlie Manuel and hitting coach Milt Thompson don’t need to mess up a good thing.

I know some of the Negadelphians will over-emphasize Howard’s strikeouts, but they must be ignored.

It’s always been accepted as a given that power hitters strike out.  They don’t hit for as high as the slap hittters and contact hitters, but they put runs on the scoreboard and that’s the most important thing.

So I say with a loud voice, LEAVE RYAN HOWARD ALONE.
