This is great news as the Phillies try to defend their back-to-back National League crowns.¬† Newly acquired third baseman Placido Polanco left today’s game against the Pirates with an injured knee.
Polanco hurt himself trying to catch a pop up on the pitcher’s mound in the third inning.¬† Polanco limped off of the mound and than collapsed to the turf.¬† He was then helped off the field by two trainers.
Right now, it’s not known how serious the injury is, but this can’t be good for the Phils.¬† They could really use Polanco’s bat in that lineup and all he needs to do is play some sort of facsimile of Feliz’s defense (ok, who are we kidding?¬† There will be a clear dropoff in defense over there).
I’m sure we’ll all stay tuned for more on this one.¬† It’s not like Ryan Howard or Chase Utley going down, but it’s not exactly Scott Mathieson getting a hang nail either.
UPDATE:  Polanco is listed officially as day-to-day and should only miss two to three days.  Good news.
