Vick’s skills hurting his trade value?

There has been a myriad of speculation about Michael Vick (and Eagles QB’s in general) as far as trades and where he could end up and what the the Eagles could get for him. But, Alex Marvez of Foxsports.com spoke to two personnel guys who say trading Vick is tough because his skills have eroded.

“He can’t throw,” one scout told Marvez. “A guy could be open 20 yards downfield and he’ll throw it 25. He never could throw, but he was fast before. It’s not like he’s slow now but he doesn’t stick out like, ‘Wow, this guy is faster than everybody.’”

So, Marvez texted another NFL scouting friend of his to see if he agreed that the reason the market has been cold for Vick because he just doesn’t do what he used to.

The response?¬† “Right on,” the scout said.

I’ve been saying that Vick has been hurting his market value by running his mouth and talking about where he would like to play next, but maybe it’s much more than that.¬† He’s also set to make $3.75 million in 2010, with $1 million already guaranteed by the Eagles.¬† And also, let’s not forget that this guy did do hard time in a federal prison for fighting dogs.¬† That hasn’t magically gone away.¬† Throw in a dose of “he’s a free agent after this year and you’ll need to sign him to an extension,” and you’ve got a difficult trade situation.

Now, take everything I listed in that last paragraph and couple that with the fact that many league decision makers just don’t think he’s very good, and well the Eagles are going to have a very difficult time getting much in return for the former #1-overall pick.
