McNabb and Vick Suitors Are Growing Thin

As the Eagles get closer to the draft, they still have all three quarterbacks on the roster.

They are believed to be asking for a 2nd round pick for Michael Vick.

They continue to remain firm in their stance that Donovan McNabb will not be traded. Whether they are serious about him not being available, or whether they are waiting for a suitable offer isn’t clear.

What is clear is the number of teams that might be willing to trade for McNabb or Vick is diminishing.

The Cleveland Browns traded for Seneca Wallace, and signed Jake Delhomme. The 49ers signed David Carr. Denver traded for Brady Quinn. Arizona signed Derek Anderson. St. Louis signed A.J. Feeley. And Seattle signed Charlie Whitehurst.

That leaves the Buffalo Bills as the only team in dire need of a quarterback that hasn’t made a move.

None of those quarterbacks will lead any of their teams to a title, but those teams have made their move, and they have invested good amounts of money in each of them. As a result, even if they had interest in McNabb or Vick, they will be less inclined to make an acceptable offer.

In the past the Eagles have been hesitant to pull the trigger on a major trade unless they were the heavy winner. If they are posturing now, waiting for a team to blow them away with an offer they can’t refuse for either quarterback, they are risking the market drying up completely.

Remember two years ago the Eagles were unable to trade Lito Sheppard because they were holding out for a first round pick instead of accepting a second round pick that was being offered. The Eagles waited too long and ultimately ended up getting a fifth and a conditional fourth round pick from the Jets.

The Eagles may let Vick go for a lesser pick, but I doubt they will let McNabb go cheap, nor should they. It’s looking more and more to me like McNabb will be back.
