Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. was on 610-WIP this afternoon and he said Phillies relievers Brad Lidge and J.C. Romero won’t likely be ready for the start of the season.
He said there’s a chance they could miss more than two weeks of the season, in fact they could miss a month of the season before they’re ready to pitch.
He stressed the importance of having Romero and another lefthander in the bullpen for Charlie Manuel.said he’s confident
He talked about having meetings regarding which pitcher, Jamie Moyer or Kyle Kendrick, will be the fifth starter.
Amaro was confident that both of the pitchers would probably be part of the staff when the season begins.
He likes the preparation of Cole Hamels this spriing.  Amaro believes Hamels knows how and what he needs to do to perform at his best.
He emphasized Hamels youth and that fact that he’s still learning.
Amaro says he’s most concerned about the Atlanta Braves when he thinks about their competition in winning the division.
