I just finished reading the Ashley Fox article on Philly.com about Andy Reid and the Eagles quarterback situation.
She’s down at the league meetings in Olando and according to her, some NFL people think Reid will hang onto Donovan McNabb and trade Kevin Kolb, while others believe he will trade McNabb and hang onto Kolb.
Like her, I’ve heard all kinds of opinions from people around and in the Eagles organization about what they think Reid will do with the quarterbacks but nobody knows for sure, except Reid himself.
The truth is, I don’t even know whether he knows or not.
In the article Reid says the Eagles have been and are listening to offers for the quarterbacks.
The funny thing about all of the people who want to see McNabb traded.¬† If Reid does trade him and Kolb turns out to be a bust, all of the people who wanted Reid to do it will point the finger at Reid, and you won’t hear about their opinion any more.
Remember what I’m saying.¬† A year from now when the season is half over and we’re out of the playoffs, the same people who wanted to see McNabb traded will be talking about how stupid Reid is for doing it.
Remember many of these same people were pushing A.J. Feeley and Jeff Garcia.
It brings to mind what Buddy Ryan said about listening to the fans.¬† He said if you start listening to the fans too much, you’ll soon be up there with them.
Back to the Fox article, she said a source of her’s who was tied to the team predicted that Reid would hang onto McNabb and trade Kolb because getting rid of McNabb would signal the Eagles were out of the hunt for the Super Bowl.
She writes that another NFC source told her the team would trade McNabb and turn things over to Kolb because they trust him to be successful.
Then she says another source believes Reid will stay with McNabb for the next four years because he believes McNabb will be a successful quarterback the next four years and that will take him to the end of his contract with the Birds.
