Ever since Andy Reid admitted that the Philadelphia Eagles have listened to offers regarding all three of their quarterbacks, there have been many reports on Donovan McNabb and his alleged destination.
There was first a report that the St. Louis Rams offered their No. 33 overall pick along with free safety O.J. Atogwe.  Despite their many holes to fill to be a contender again, word is out that McNabb would be willing to extend his contract in St. Louis.
Regardless of Rams General Manager Bill Devaney’s denial of that possibility, it still remains that the Rams decisions hinges on franchise QB prospect Sam Bradford’s pro day performance.
McNabb to the Oakland Raiders for cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha?  Please! That would mean the Eagles would be paying almost $26 million next year for two starting corners. All the big words in the world couldn’t help Eagles Vice President Joe Banner justify that.
The Buffalo Bills?  McNabb reportedly stated he doesn’t want to go there (nor does he want to go to Oakland) and the Bills don’t want to trade for someone who they would have to franchise to keep more than one year.
I don’t think McNabb is going to any of the teams listed above.  Each organization is in a rebuilding mode and needs a long term solution at quarterback.  McNabb may have four to five years left.  These teams need to be looking ten years plus down the road which is why Bradford’s performance tomorrow is so important.
Where will McNabb don his No. 5 jersey in 2010?  It’s extremely hard to imagine him returning to Philly this time.  Arizona GM Rod Graves has stated the Cardinals are not interested.  Brett Farve isn’t going to rush his decision on retiring to give Minnesota a reason to acquire McNabb.
The team I think is most likely to get McNabb is the San Francisco 49ers.  I’m not buying that they’re completely comfortable with Alex Smith as their starting QB.  I do believe that they’re not willing to part with one of their two mid-first round picks for McNabb.  I have a hard time blaming them.
It’s been reported that the Eagles won’t accept anything lower than the No. 42 overall pick for McNabb, which is seven picks before the 49ers second round selection.  Both organizations are currently good at displaying their poker faces.
The 49ers have a total of nine draft picks.  If the Eagles offer them McNabb for their second round (No. 49) and fourth round (No. 113) picks, I think it would be a done deal.
San Francisco would have a huge upgrade at quarterback and still be able to add two potentially instant impact players via their first round picks.
The Eagles would move on with Kevin Kolb and have to extra draft picks to help fill their holes on defense and their offensive line.
Of course, the reported deal on the table with the Rams would be the better offer.  I have a hard time believing St. Louis won’t select Bradford No. 1 overall.  Even if his shoulder’s not completely 100% yet, they’re going to view him from a long term perspective.  This is why they signed A.J. Feeley.  They’re going to protect their investment.
After everything’s said and done, don’t be surprised if Donovan McNabb is in red and gold by the bay in 2010.  He’ll definitely enjoy his weaponry of Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore there.
