Eagles veteran cornerback Sheldon Brown wanted a new contract and it looks like he’s going to get it but it won’t be with the Eagles.
Clark Judge of CBSSports.com reports that the Eagles and Browns are close to doing a deal which would involve Brown and Eagles strongside linebacker Chris Gocong.
It shouldn’t be surprise to anyone that Brown is going to be dealt.¬† He’s getting up there in years and he’s not happy with his contract.
Brown was added to the Pro Bowl team at the end of the season but declined to play in the game because of an injury he was nursing.
He had two horrible games versus the Dallas Cowboys in last season’s final two games.¬† It was blamed on Injuries but that didn’t stop the Cowboys from torching him on key third down plays.
Gocong has been a disappointment at the strongside linebacker position.  I think he would fit in a 3/4 system much better.
He was an experiment gone wrong.  Gocong was defensive end in college and never caught onto what is needed out of a strongside linebacker in a 4/3 defense.
The Eagles could use the draft picks they acquire to move up in round one to get one of the defensive ends or safeties which could step in and help them immediately.
Joselio Hanson and Ellis Hobbs will likely get the first shot at Brown’s starting job, but I don’t know if either of them will be up to it.
To me moving Brown means drafting a cornerback.
