Jason Peters graded the worst at his position

Tim Graham of ESPN.com cites a footballoutsiders.com report that grades Jason Peters as the worst at his position.  Ouch.

Graham is actually writing about footballoutsiders.com’s grading of numerous Buffalo Bills players.¬† He throws in this paragraph on Jason Peters at the end to make them feel better about their trade.

“Also of interest to Bills fans is their former left tackle, three-time Pro Bowler Jason Peters, graded as the worst at his position,” Graham writes.¬† “Peters, an elite run blocker, struggled against the NFC East’s superstar edge rushers, allowing seven sacks and four hurries.”

First of all, I completely disagree with that assessment.  Peters struggled against tons of players, not just those from the NFC East.  And he left out that Peters also led the team with 11 penalties.

But, Eagles fans didn’t need to see a report like this to know that this guy is big time overrated.¬† I think I laughed out loud when I found out he was voted to the Pro Bowl.

Here’s the bigger problem:¬† the front office should have known he can’t pass block.¬† He is an excellent run blocker, but why would Andy Reid even care about that?¬† Who cares that the guy can run block when you never run?¬† For anyone to succeed at any position in this offense, they have to excel in the passing game.¬† Peters does not and that is whey this was a head-scratching move from the very beginning.
