The Philadelphia Phillies announced this afternoon that they have placed shortstop Jimmy Rollins on the 15-day disabled list. Rollins suffered a Grade 1/Grade 2 calf strain while sprinting before a game against the Washington Nationals.
“We believe it to be a mild to moderate strain and we’re hopeful it will be a two-to-four week recovery,” general manager Reuben Amaro said. “As in all of our injuries, precautions will be taken so that Jimmy is 100 percent when he returns to the field.”
Rollins is hitting .391 with a .516 on-base percentage and a .739 slugging percentage so far in 2010. This is a blow to the Phillies lineup (and their defense), but luckily they have Shane Victorino who can lead off as well.
Wilson Valdez has been picked up from Triple A Lehigh to replace Rollins on the roster. He’ll most likely Wally Pipp Rollins and the All Star shortstop will never play for the Phillies again. Ok, maybe not.
What a shame for Rollins was off to his best start in 3-4 years..
The will slide Shance Victorino to lead-off and should be fine with Ploanco,Utley,Howard behind him.
(maybe this will snap the “Flying Hawaiin” from his slump and I did just purchase a Rookie Card
of Wilson Valdez on E-bay for $1.50 just in case..)
If (not likely) Valdez can “Wally Pipp” J Roll out of his job then we have one heck of a young superstar and maybe even an opening to keep J werth next year. I doubt this will happen and I just hope for solid production until J Roll can return to the lineup in 2 weeks or so.
Oil Spills are a mess to clean up G. (valdez) I just remember an article where you mentioned that this guy makes you think of that tragic environmental disaster. That was the first thing that I thought of when I saw his name too. Sorry Dude it just is what it is.
Unless the team expects to score 7 runs every time Hallady isn’t pitching we need to be concerned. He’s the only one that has given you a quality start. And the other games were poor pitching but you won because you played bad teams and you scored a lot of runs. This is not going to fly against the good teams.
