All I can think of is the word selfish, when talking about former USC Heisman Trophy winner and current member of the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints, Reggie Bush.
From a distance it looks like he might cost USC a National Championship and himself a Heisman Trophy for receiving illegal gifts from an agent, then double-crossing the agent by not signing with him as he had agreed to do.
Yesterday Bush agreed to a settlement with Lloyd Lake, which will require that he pay Lake and his company, New Era Sports and Entertainment about $300, 000 dollars, isn’t good news for the University of Southern California.
Bush’s decision is bound to affect the thinking of the committee that’s examining the accusations that Bush took gifts for himself and his family from an agent during the time he was playing halfback for the Trojans.
The committee could take back USC’s 2004 National Championship as well as Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy.
Sometime early next month, the NCAA is expected to  decide whether to levy penalties against the university for possible impropieties that took place involving Bush and basketball star, O.J. Mayo.
The case against the university in the Bush situation now looks very strong. Lake had claimed that Bush owed him and his company $300,000 in cash, unpaid rent and other benefits from gifts the company had given him, so that he, Bush would make Lake’s company his representative in his NFL contract and endorsement negotiations.
According to Lake, Bush didn’t follow through on his promises and refused to make Lake and his company his contract representatives, so Lake sued Bush for what he claimed to have given him.
The former USC speedster was supposed to give a deposition in the case on Friday and would have had to get on the stand and jeopardize his freedom if he was caught not telling the truth.
The fact that he agreed to pay Lake $300,000 can’t sit well with the NCAA committee.
From what I have heard, USC will likely sacrifice its basketball team for the good of their much more successful and financially rewarding football empire.
It won’t be a big deal if the basketball team gets hit with a suspension of post season eligibility and loss of scholarships, but were the football team to be suspended from playing in post season games and lose a number of scholarships, that would be very painful for one of the most successful football programs in the history of NCAA sports.
I wonder if Bush who is the boyfriend of reality-star  Kim Kardashian, realizes how much his mistakes may hurt the school which he attended.
