If I were a NFL general manager or head coach I would draft Gerald McCoy ahead of Ndamukong Suh in this year’s draft.¬† I think Suh is going to be a major disappointment on the NFL level.
It looks like the Detroit Lions are going to draft Suh and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will select McCoy next.
You don’t beat NFL offensive lineman by simply overpowering them.¬† You must have quickness to get them moving them you can utilize your power to overpower them.
If you don’t have that quickness to get them moving, then you won’t be able to attack them face to face and overpower them.¬† I think McCoy has that quickness and explosiveness out of his stance but I don’t see it in Suh.
The Nebraska Cornhusker  has been one of the most dominant players in college football history because of his tremendous strength he has been able to manhandle offensive linemen and overpower them on his way to the ball.
That has worked for him on the college level but he won’t be able to overpower offensive linemen in the NFL.¬† They are bigger, stronger and capable of dealing with his power.
If you look at recent history of the draft, you will see that defensive tackles who lacked quickness and relied on their ability to outmuscle college offensive linemen,¬† failed miserably as Pro’s.
Suh is listed at 6’4″ 307 pounds which is not big for an NFL defensive tackle.¬† He’s not going to be able to overpower NFL centers and guards who are outweighing him by 20, 30 and 40 pounds.
These guys will be just as strong as he is, so it will nullify his ability to dominate.
I think McCoy will be a much better Pro because his quickness will take advantage of the slow footed offensive guards and centers in the league.
On third down, he will force them to move their feet, rather than simply try to overpower them.  His great quickness and explosiveness will make him a great pass rusher.
He will get to the quarterback and force offensive linemen to hold him.
The NFL is a passing league.  The teams that throw the ball best and stop the pass the best, win most of the games.
Suh will be the better run stopper, while McCoy will be the guy getting to the quarterback and making big plays to help his team win.
