The Eagles grabbed Oklahoma linebacker Keenan Clayton who isn’t that big but he is a speed guy.¬† He’s listed at 6’1″ 229 pounds which isn’t that big but he can run.
They timed him at 4.55 in the forty-yard dash.  I think the Eagles want all their linebackers to have the speed needed to run with tight ends.  The Birds have been killed by tight ends for years and they want to make sure that their linebackers are fast enough to deal with them.
With their next pick the Eagles grabbed, Mike Kafka, who is a quarterback from Northwestern with west coast offense abilities. Of course he’s got plenty of time for the Birds to develop them.
The young quarterback says he’s quite familiar with the west coast offense, ‚ÄúAbsolutely, that is what the basis of our offense was around as far as progressions, moving keys, reading coverages, changing your progessions and changing plays at the line of scrimmage. And doing these type of things are really going to help me prepare for the next level.‚Äù
He doesn’t have a strong arm, but he throws a catchable ball and is a very good athlete for the quarterback position.¬† Kafka did a good job in college of reading defenses.¬† They say he’s a fighter who will battle all the time he’s on the football field.
He spent time with Eagles at the combine and they came to his Pro Day.  Kafka says he met with Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg at the combine and talked to them for awhile.
With their final pick of the fourth round, the Eagles grabbed tight end Clay Harbor, who is a blocking tight end from Missouri State.  They needed a blocking tight end because they have two guys in Brent Celek and Cornelius Ingram, who was hurt a year ago, but is a very good receiver.
Harbor is a big guy, standing 6’3″ and weighing 255 pounds.¬† They’ll likely have hin on the field on third downs and in some two-tight end situations.¬† I just watched the kid catch the football and run routes and he’s impressive.
“I talked to [Tom Melvin] the Coach at the combine, the tight end coach, Harbor told the local Philadelphia media in a conference call today.¬†¬† “And he said he liked me and would be a great fit for the organization; a tight end that can block, play lots of different positions, run routes well, and catch also. I‚Äôm just excited for the opportunity.‚Äù
This young man was the strongest tight end in the draft.  He bench pressed 225 pounds at total of 30 times.
He has the ability to run the football from the fullback position, so you can expect that the Birds may give him a chance to contribute there.
I think the Birds have three quality tight ends on the football field.
2010 Draft BIG FAT F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DEL were you a failure as a newborn too? Dude, to say that at this point is pure ignorance. I’m not saying it’s an A, but to judge it DURING THE DRAFT is utterly ridiculous. Any player or NFL coach – ANYONE will tell you that you can’t judge a draft for at least a year. Most say it’s smart to wait 3-5 years post to be accurate.
Gcobb..please start deleting comments that are completely uneducated…An F!!…drafts classes aren’t evaluated for at least three years from…I bet this guy was also like Trent Cole OMG he’s n F..Celek OMG he’s an F…think before u type..keep it up Philly we will see how these guys turn out…
Tommy Lawlor of Scoutsnotebook.com rated Ricky Sapp as the 4th rated outside LB (two spots ahead of Navarro Bowman). And the same source says that Keenan Clayton specializes in covering TEs.
Ive got no problem with this draft so far. Defense oriented. I like it.
I like the emphasis on key defensive positions in this draft… Graham and Allen will be on the field a LOT this year as the season progresses. Both are good guys and smart, and are genuinely real about their excitement to HELP the team.
They also picked up some very good players in the later rounds (typical Eagles drafting strength)…. Clayton, then Harbor and Cooper who are big (and or tall) tight ends with excellent hands. Red zone threat will finally develop this year with Kolb and his wide array of receiving talent.
Looking forward to young speedy ballhawk defense and much better short & midrange passing attack which should open up run game.
This is shaping up pretty good, I like the fact that the priority in this draft is getting after the QB, the last three picks will all be o-line.
Im not a fan of Kafka. The Eagles havent really played a West Coast offense the past few years they have been throwing th ball down field more then the normal west coast offense. They have 2 big playmaking WRs now that can stretch the field. Kafka isnt gonna be able to make them deep over the middle passes and I believe that will waste Maclin and Jackson’s talents.
I know he isnt the starter and may never start. But If Kolb turns out to be Bobby Hoying then there gonna need a QB. And drafting a guy in the 4th round is kind of a big deal its still pretty early to take a QB.
I like taking a QB, but it should have been Jarret Brown or Jevon Snead
I know Tom Heckert was glad to get off this sinking ship before his stock crashed and burned. This team will implode and without Mcnabb, Reid’s behind will get exposed. Welcome to the basement eagles fans. You will be begging for Mcnabb by week 6….The NFC East is powerful thanks to our contributions and the lack to pay our talent and bring in talent. McNabb you’ll have the last laugh.
.P.S. Sheldon and B. Dawk…..thanks..the fans appreciated you even though this farce of organization totally disrespected your hard work to play through injuries most players would dare to play through…..this season will be your retribution.
I would rather lose than have mcnabb back
I’m glad Tom Heckert AND Donovan McNabb are gone. This change of guard is and will be interesting. Superbowl or bust!
Runtheball09: That is the dumbest thing ive ever seen writen on this site.
All and all even if 50% of the guys BUST we end up with 6-7 Players that can contribute. Other than the higher round picks (which still bust) most of the guys in the draft are fairly similar talent wise. You can’t suck completely and be in the top 10% of all college players. It’s possible that because we went so heavy on defense (AWSOME) that we will end up having some really good players.
That said I did not like watching guys like Lee go to the cowboys instead of us.
