I think we all saw this coming. The Oakland Raiders have finally let go of probably the biggest first-round draft bust in history, JaMarcus Russell.
Ryan Leaf must be doing jumping jacks. For all of his problems that led to him getting the moniker of All-Time Biggest Draft Bust, he wasn’t this bad. Russell spent three years with the Raiders and won seven games as a starter. The tab for that? $39 million. Ouch.
This move was inevitable as the Raiders added former Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell to go along with a small stable of average-to-below-average QB’s who were still better than JaMarcus.
I keep thinking about whether or not another NFL team would take a flyer on this guy. His work ethic is poor, he’s lazy and his teammates just refuse to get behind him. I hope JaMarcus invested his money wisely.

I was at the Sugar bowl when Russel played against the Irish and Brady Quinn. Coming out of the game I thought he was the real deal. I would hate to be a GM who was to pick a QB in the top 10. I thinks it’s pure luck if you get a good one.
I was at the game where he dropped a big 13 on the Eagles last year in Oakland. Too bad we did nothing but pass, pass, pass all day and wound up with only 9.
You know someone is thinking they can get a steal by signing him for peanuts to be a 3rd stringer and learn for 2 years. Or maybe pitsburgh takes a shot for the price as insurance to 7.

He would be a better QB for DeSean Jackson than Kolb if he could get his head partially straight. Considering the guy hasn’t raped anyone, ran anyone down in his car, shot his self in the leg, or repeatedly been suspended for violating the league drug policies I’d say he should be a candidate for a back-up job somewhere in the league. I’d like to think that being released has put his arrogant ass in a completely different state of mind and getting paid something close to the league minimum would reinforce that, but I guess you really never know…I mean look at how Jeff George’s career turned out.
I wouldnt mind the Eagles signing him to compete for the 3rd string spot. Maybe Reid can do something with him if not they could make him a DT I think he is over 300LBs. They didnt draft a project this year maybe he can be there 2010 project.

For all of the complaints you have about McNabb it’s funny how he’s statistically the BEST QB to ever wear an Eagles uniform and as a result will probably go into the Hall of Fame the first time he’s nominated. It’s 98% likely that Kolb will NEVER compile a fraction of the stats. that McNabb has which will also determine how competitive the Eagles are. Personally, I’m hoping when the Eagles have a top five pick in next year’s draft they do whatever is necessary to land Jake Locker and not screw it up.
