Philadelphia Sports Fans Put Mike Schmidt On The Top Of The List

Do you buy the list of Philadelphia’s greatest athletes which Philly.com had on line yesterday?¬† Some of the results surprised me and I think some of it will surprise you as well. According to the site, Mike Schmidt’s name appeared on 60% of the ballots.

Schmidt wasn’t loved by Philly fans during his years in the Phillies uniform but they seem to warming up to him as the years pass.¬† I don’t see why the fans ever had a problem with him.

Wilt Chamberlain was second on the list and appeared on 49% of the ballots.¬† Chamberlain’s name isn’t as strong with the youngsters, but his records in the NBA seem to be unbreakable.¬† As Sonny Hill always says, “Wilt changed the game”.

Julius “Dr. J” Erving was next up by appearing on 39% of the ballots.

I would have Chamberlain at the top of my list.  What about you?  Who would be at the top of your list?

Damn…I mean, I was as frustrated with McNabb’s tenure here as anybody but the guy needs to be higher on this list, right?
