When asked about his reaction to the trading of Donovan McNabb, DeSean Jackson finished his comments with, “It‚Äôs just that I‚Äôm very confident in what we have here now, with Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick. Basically, I was just very happy with the decision that was made.‚Äù
Did anybody notice he didn’t just say, Kevin Kolb, he also mentioned Michael Vick?
This is the most controversial thing that Jackson said during his interview with The Sporting News.
With McNabb gone, this is supposed to Kolb’s team, but is it.¬† Why would Jackson mention Vick?¬† He wasn’t prompted to bring up Vick’s name but he did.
Could you imagine Jackson telling the media last year that he believed in McNabb and Kolb?¬† This would have been a major story that the team’s number one receiver was bringing up the backup quarterback’s name.¬† Everyone wants to ignore it but Jackson mentioned Vick right along with Kolb.
I think this gives you a look into the Jackson’s view of the two quarterbacks.
Despite the fact that everybody wants to ignore it, Vick is looked up to by the young players on the Eagles roster.¬† I don’t think they see Kolb above Vick.¬† We onlookers may see it that way but the members of this football team don’t see it that way.
Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg said they were going to use him last year and they did.
Vick was a icon to quite a few of these guys during their formulative years in middle school, high school and college.
As long as he’s here, they look at him as one of their best players.
He’s going to be on the field for a number of plays each game. He’s in better shape than he was a year ago.
I could see the Eagles opening up the offense quite a bit when he’s in there.¬† Reid and Mornhinweg have had more time to think of better ways to use Vick.
If Kolb stumbles out of the gate, then you’ve got yourself a legitimate controversy.
G, I feel like you are manufacturing controversy with this post. The 2010 Jackson saying “Kolb and Vick” is very much different from a theoretical 2009 Jackson saying “McNabb and Kolb.” The primary difference is that Kolb was not a factor in our offensive planning for 2009 in the way that Vick is a factor in the 2010 scheme. There was no debate about how many snaps Kolb should get in 2009, but that conversation existed for Vick and it is still there now. We know that Vick’s no. 2 QB role is a unique one, in that we can expect him to be on the field just about every game. Desean Jackson can expect to catch some passes from Vick in 2010. He could not, however, plan for any balls from Kolb in 2009, since KK was more of a traditional backup.
The Philly media will continue to try to stir things up. Desean Jackson will be the pawn now. They love going to an outspoken players and ask leading questions and then create a story. I’m not a fan of Stephen A. Smith but at least he doesn’t try to create controversy. He just tells it the way he sees it. he doesn’t try to create drama between players or make something out of the nothing. Most of those “journalists” are just looking for the next drama-filled story to write about. No wonder they are all become increasingly irrelevant.
Also, Desean doesn’t need to be confident in what they have as far as QBs go. He’s a WR not a QB. Kolb is the one who should be stating things like this since he is now the leader on the team. I don’t care what my WR thinks about the QBs. He just needs to be quiet and play. Period.
I just wish DJax will just stop giving the media what they want and just play football.
My question is who will now be the veteran leader of the team? Someone that can pull DJax aside and tell him to chill. Weaver? Cole? Avant? Samuel?
You are reading into this way too much. You can’t compare McNabb/Kolb to Kolb/Vick in this situation. Kolb was a back-up that didn’t play unless McNabb was hurt. Vick was part of the offense last year taking McNabb off the field.
D-Jax is just being a team guy here supporting his teammates.
G, You’re up to four articles on the subject. I guess it’s as slow for you as the Philly.com beat writers.
Vick has major accuracy problems just like McNabb did. It would be more of the same with him at the helm. Much like McNabb, Vick relied on his legs during his early years. He’ll be 30 when the season starts, and without the athleticism he had during his early years, his accuracy problems will start to show more. I’m looking forward to an accurate Kevin Kolb, despite the growing pains that I’m sure he will encounter.
I don’t really see it as a controversy…Kolb is unproven and Vick has quite a few successful seasons under his belt, those are just the FACTS. To try to place Kolb over Vick at this point would be absurd, the players know it,the coaches should know it and the fans have no choice, but to accept it. Vick will throw a lot more interceptions than McNabb, just like Kolb will BUT at least you know Vick has a deep ball and isn’t pigeonholed into getting Jackson killed over the middle.
Boy, I’ll be glad when the next mini-camp begins.
i agree with anyone who said that this post is an example of manufactured controversy. it is likely and basically apparent that vick will get at least a few snaps a game, probably throwing a few passes in each contest. so it makes sense that jackson would mention vick as well. end of story.
cause vick will be the starter thats y people all hype cause donovan left and we know y but u same people will be sick again cause vick will be ur qb lmao take that 2 south philly roxborough chestnuthill northeast kensington lol north philly and west philly we will enjoy vick
Joe buck, I agree. This is why I want Jackson to be quiet. Everything he says will be heavily scrutinized. Even though I don’t think he means any harm by anything he’s saying, he just needs to stay away from the mic because they will make it into something. This is just an example of how McNabb was scrutinized. I hope Kolb emerges as the team spokesperson because he’ll say the right things. Right now we are in trouble if Jackson is the spokesperson.
