The Birds rookies just finished a workout at the Nova Care complex. The rookie workouts last about a hour and a half. The emphasis is on the passing game and teaching.
Each workout starts with individual drills. The position coaches end up stopping quite a few of the drills, so they can teach the youngsters how to properly do the drills.
The offensive and defensive linemen don’t get nearly as much out of these workouts as the skill position players, but the big guys can work on their technique and assignments.
I thought rookie quarterback Mike Kafka did a good job today of getting the ball out of his hands quickly and to his receivers. The timing was off on some routes but all in all, I thought he did a good job.
You can tell that he’s played in an offense similar to this version of the west coast offense. He spread the ball around to nearly every receiver that was out there.
Backup tight end Cornelius Ingram went through the entire workout and had a good day getting open and catching the football. This was the first full practice for the second-year tight end, since he had the ACL tear during training camp a year ago.
He caught some passes up the seam against double zone coverage. He pulled in a number of balls on short routes where he was the safety valve route for the quarterbacks.
The former Florida Gator did a nice job of getting open versus one of the linebackers, when he ran a 15 or 16 yard corner.
He said he felt good afterwards and didn’t have any problems at all during the workout. Ingram had both knees wrapped up with rubber sleeves to keep his knees warm.
I think the two-days are going to challenge his legs. All of the pounding and running will test his legs to max.
Ingram gives Birds middle linebacker Stewart Bradley a lot of credit for helping through the rehabiliation process.
Good reporting, G. Thanks!
This guy could be a secret weapon..
haha secret weapon
can’t wait for this season
I hope he (Ingram) takes it easy in these first few camps. He’s a great talent for sure, but is also one more Knee injury away from having his career end, before it ever gets started. Wishing him the best but I have a bad feel about the long-term heath/injury situation with Ingram to ever be able to contribute fully.
