Giants lose Hixon, could have field issues

The Giants have lost WR Domenik Hixon for the season with a torn ACL. To the fantasy football enthusiast, the response is “who cares? They have plenty of WR’s.” To the football junkie, the thought is “who is going to return punts?” This is a somewhat serious loss for the G-Men as now it looks like Sinorice “how in the hell am I still on this roster” Moss will take over return duties.

What’s more is that many think that the injury occurred solely because of the turf at the new Meadowlands stadium. Maybe they installed NexTurf (it’s actually FieldTurf) like that crap they put in the Vet that got a preseason game canceled.

New safety Antrel Rolle is convinced that the turf caused the injury.

“I was right there when it happened and I saw it right away,” Antrel Rolle told ESPNNewYork.com. “And I was like, ‘Damn, it don’t look good.’ He didn’t make a cut or anything. It just got caught in the turf.”

GM Jerry Reese disagrees and so does (shocking!) a spokesman for FieldTurf, Chip Namias.

“With all due and sincere respect to Antrel Rolle, who is a wonderful player, he is simply not medically trained or qualified to make such a statement,” Namias said. “The people who run NFL teams are ultra conscientious, and there’s a very good reason why 21 of the 32 member clubs use FieldTurf.”

Still, Rolle is sticking with his story.

“I don’t know what it was,” Rolle said. “My feet were burning at the bottom on the turf. I was slipping on each and every play. It just didn’t feel good to me at all. I can’t lie to you about that. I am not one to really complain or make excuses or anything but they should definitely look into that as far as playing on that field in the future during the season.”

We’ll see what happens when the turf settles down a bit. But, don’t forget your Eagles have to play on that stuff too.

Hate to see any player get injured like that…Micah, what do you mean “when the turf settles down”…is there a break-in period for turf?

With both the Jets and Giants playing in this Stadium, there are going to be alot of players exposed to this surface. If there is a problem they need to get it taken care of quickly. They awarded the Superbowl to be played in this stadium, didn’t they?

Hixon is an excellent KO returner and a decent 3rd/4th WR option.
Look for the Giants to work out rookie Tim Brown from Rutgers, veteren S Moss ..
Anyone check out their WR’s in Camp this year besides S Smith, H Nicks and M Manningham,

6′ 6″ 230lbs R Barden
6′ 6 255lbs J Ballard
6′ 4″ 210lbs D Calhoun
6′ 2″ 215lbs D Hagan

Who on the Eagles is going to cover these big WR’s…

pman….Hobbs should be able to match-up no problem, I heard he will be wearing 1 1/4″ spikes so he will be taller.
