Phillies activate Rollins, DL Ruiz and lots more

According to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki on Twitter, the Philadelphia Phillies have activated Jimmy Rollins from the disabled list, just the way he guessed they might do earlier.

But, the Phillies made a series of moves that includes DL’ing Carlos Ruiz and designating Greg Dobbs for assignment. But I’ll let Todd tell you about it:

“Jimmy Rollins activated, Carlos Ruiz on the DL, Mike Zagurski recalled, Greg Dobbs DFA’d. Mathieson optioned to Triple-A,” he tweets.

This isn’t entirely a surprise on Dobbs. His biggest problems this year have come when he is on the baseball field. It seems that he just isn’t very good at the sport. .152? Even on a team with a lousy bench that is unacceptable. His defense? Probably worse than his hitting. Maybe.

As for Ruiz, this is bad. I don’t know about you but Brian Schneider is tough to watch at the plate. At least with Rollins back we won’t have to watch him go back-to-back with the likes of Wilson Valdez or Juan Castro. I don’t know how much more of that I could take.

The Phillies open a series this evening with the Cleveland Indians, so we’ll all get to see the new-look Phillies (not exactly) right away.
