Reynolds Becomes First AP All-American To Not Be Drafted

Villanova’s talented scoring guard Scottie Reynolds became the first AP All-American to not be drafted since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976.¬† I find it rather astonishing although I wasn’t optimistic about Reynolds’ NBA career.

There were a total of 60 players drafted on Thursday night by NBA clubs but Reynolds who averaged over 18 points a game wasn’t one of them.

During his college career, Reynolds proved he can score both from the outside with his jumper and inside on occasion with his ability to drive to the basket.¬† He’s got quickness with the basketball and courage to take the big shot.

This has to be disappointing for the former Wildcat, as well as his coach Jay Wright and the Villanova faithful.  Reynolds was a favorite son on the Mainline during his years at the school.

He had seriously considered coming out of the school a year earlier but reconsidered after being advised by NBA scouts and front office people.  He went back for his senior year and I wonder how he feels now that he has failed to even be drafted.

In the long run this might be a good thing because he’ll get the chance to look for the rosters around the league and identify which team will give him the best chance to become a NBA player.

Woulda been a stretch to draft him. He is small, super streaky and tends to vanish in games for huge chunks of time. Still think he will get a shot to make a team.

Man I guess he made the right choice to stay in school. There was no way he was gonna be a lottery pick. He was looking to come out since his freshman year. There was talk every year that he was gonna enter the draft. I guess all you can say about him is at least Nova had him for 4 years.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he was invited to Sixers camp, made the team and made a splash as a nice sharp shooter off the bench. The Sixers haven’t had legitimate shooting threat since Kyle Korver…and who knows before that it was probably back before the Barkley era. (maybe Hersey Hawkins)
