The Philadelphia Flyers have signed right winger Nikolai Zherdev, according to GM Paul Holmgren. As is club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Nik is a highly-skilled player who, at 25-years-old, we feel will be a good fit to our core of forwards,” said Holmgren in a statement. “Prior to playing last season in Russia, Nik ranked as one of the top young point-producers in the NHL. We are pleased to add him to our team.”
This is an upside move. Everyone thinks this kid has a ton of talent, but his work ethic is a big-time question mark. Based on previous rumors, I think this deal is probably north of $3 million for the one-year deal.
With this much talent, he clearly wasn’t playing in the NHL last year for a reason.
I would also have to think that the Flyers are going to move a big named player. I don’t know where they are going to get the cap space to keep all these guys.
Rumor has it it’s a 1-year, $2 million deal. If this is true, this signing is a steal.
Thanks for some REAL Flyers’ news, Micah…. instead of these endless, whiny, speculative articles by your other Flyers writer.
I haven’t heard too many good things about this player…(Zerhdev) I hope he does well
Flyers will unload J Carter and S Gagne without a doubt and soon I believe…
