Eagles No. 11 on Forbes list of most valuable sports franchises in the world

Every year Forbes magazine comes up with these lists of who is worth what, and I’m never sure how they collect their data. I guess it doesn’t necessarily matter whether it’s completely accurate because lists like this do make for good content (why let facts get in the way?).

So since it’s slow, I thought I’d pass along where the Eagles rank on this list of most valuable sports franchises in the world. As you may or may not have inferred from the headline, the Eagles are ranked No. 11.

According to this little slide show thing they have going on, the Eagles are valued at $1.12 billion. That’s not too bad when you consider Jeffrey Lurie bought the team for $185 million in 1994, according to Sports Illustrated.

Forbes says that the Eagles have $250 million in annual revenue with a 99% season ticket renewal rate, one of the tops in the NFL.

For reference, Manchester United of the English Premiere League comes in at No. 1 with a value of $1.83 billion. Not too bad. Other teams that come in ahead of the Eagles include the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots, Real Madrid, New York Giants, Arsenal, New York Jets and Houston Texans.

I just wonder where Forbes gets all of their data. With the NFLPA begging NFL owners to open their books for CBA negoatiations, why wouldn’t they just log on to Forbes.com? Problem solved, right?

because houston has a huge market and tons of oil money in that economy – notice, it’s mostly reflections of the size and economic pool of the market the team plays in…. look at the list and tell me I’m wrong there…

I still question why fans complain about players who want/deserve raises when the owners pocket the overwhelmingly great majority of money.

Then again, I think I understand.

drummer I don’t think most people complain when players want more money especially if they feel they deserve it. It’s when the guy who just signed a contract wants a new one that makes people sick. Don’t agree to something and then try to change it up. Hey, the business aspect of the NFL is brutal. They will use players up and dump them as soon as they can’t play but that’s the reality of the situation and the NFL and anyone who wants to be an NFL players should know that when they come into the league. Having said that, that is probably why some of those guys complain about their contracts because they know it’s only a matter of time before they are out of work. Those guys make peanuts compared to NBA players who don’t risk their bodies (and lives) on every single play.

That’s because they don’t spend any money on players. If it wasn’t for Big Red and Tom Heckert we would be the St. Louis Rams, or Detroit Lions
