Rumors have been circulating over the last few days that the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings are once again in discussion over possible trades.  Another rumor is that the Kings are looking to add another defenseman, which the Flyers now have a healthy stock of.  That last bit of conjecture grew legs today with the announcement that Kings defenseman Matt Greene will miss three to four months next season following shoulder surgery.
Eklund at Hockeybuzz posted recently that the defenseman LA is targeting is Tomas Kaberle of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who Leafs general manager Brian Burke is hoping to trade for a top six forward.  While the Flyers may still be involved in the discussion if Burke’s asking price is too high, rumor has it that the Kings are interested in trading for Flyers agitator Dan Carcillo.
I don’t have any idea at this point what Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren would consider to be a good return on Carcillo, or whether or not he’s looking to receive a Kings forward in any potential transaction or move salary to sign another forward.  Carcillo signed a one-year, $1.075 million contract earlier this month and is expected to play a more offensive role this season than as just a pest.  Personally, I am interested to see what “Carbomb” is capable of when he keeps his temper under control for a full season; former Flyer Steve Downie, who fills a similar role to Carcillo, played in the top six for the Tampa Bay Lightning last year and racked up 22 goals and 24 assists.
A trade to LA would not devastate the Flyers moving forward, as the team currently has enough fighters in the line-up to fill the void, but the Flyers would likely have to package something else in the deal in order to get back anything of value.
I’d like to get rid of Carcillo and sign Turco/Theodore or resign Asham.
Carcillo is awful. He takes bad penalties at bad times, because he is A) out of position or B) can’t control his temper. What exactly does he bring to the Flyers? They proved in the playoffs that they didn’t need him.
I would take Asham on my team anyday over Garcillo,
Asham has a chance to be 15-20 goal a season player playing on a consistent basis and is a good skater with a very quick burst, quick shot and good hands…
Garcillo is a high-energy,get the team up type of player but is not a very good skater, brings limited offensive skills to the ice and can be baited into taking many poor penalties….
