If you noticed, I threw out some notes for the Washington Redskins and New York Giants today. Some of you may have guessed what was next. That’s right, let’s check in with the Dallas Cowboys:
-The Philadelphia Eagles are spoiled by David Akers. I realize this when I look around and see team’s that can’t get their kicking game together. So far in Cowboys camp, David Buehler is 20-for-26 on FG attempts. Today, he was 4-for-6, missing from 44 and 53 yards. What are the odds that this guy makes it through an entire season? SI‘s Peter King says that the Cowboys are “worried, very worried” about their kicker this year.
-I’m sure you all heard that Dez Bryant went down a couple days ago with a nasty ankle sprain. As for now, they still think he’ll be ready for Week 1. He could even make it back in time for one last preseason games. This guy has been receiving big time hype so far, but that could be deceiving. According to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News, some of Bryant’s spectacular plays were the result of him being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He’s been making amazing plays because he’s forced himself too. Happens with rookies.
-So that means more playing time for Roy Williams! He says that he and Tony Romo are finally on the same page.
“It’s coming together with Romo,” Williams said. “That’s the number-one thing. A receiver and a quarterback have to learn each other. We’ve finally got it.”
And just why has it taken so long? Romo seems to be on the same page as Jason Witten and Miles Austin. He’s probably on the same page more with Martellus Bennett at this point, too.
“For me, it’s slowly getting better each time out,” Romo said. “It’s a gradual progression.”
-Romo says he’s got a little bit of a tired arm right now, but that he’ll be fine.
“It’s really part of every season and I’m pretty sure every quarterback goes through it,” Romo said.
He took Sunday morning off and only threw five passes today. He should be fine for Tuesday’s two-a-days.
-Despite the injury to Bryant and Williams’ poor play, owner Jerry Jones still won’t guarantee that Patrick Crayton will make this team.
“I don’t want to go there,” Jones said. “He’s on the team. He’s got a contract, and that’s been my stance from the very beginning. He’s there.”
….for now.
-Jean-Jacques Taylor of the Dallas Morning News has some serious praise for cornerback Mike Jenkins.
Some Big qurestions and players to look out for…
LT D Free or A Barron, who wins this job and is either one capable of blocking Romo’s blind side consistenly.
Who is the #1 option at RB, I think F Jones is with T Choice as back-up and M Barber gets traded to a team who needs a RB or has injuries at that position.. (look for KC Chiefs,GB Packers,Dolphins all come calling )
On Defense with a lot of young guns, Who steps up at FS position, and can K Borrking get another year of productive play from his body… High Pick ILB S Lee is also hurt this camp which has impeded his progress, so lots ot questions even for one of the favored teams in the NFC to go the Super Bowl… Look for big break-out season for back-up TE J Phillips who will catch many teams asleep due to double covering Whitten/Ausin and leaving Phillips 1 on 1 with an inside LB on many occasions on double TE sets… Also CB M Jenkins becomes a Pro-Bowler player …
