How Many Ways Can Lurie Say it? The Eagles Aren’t Firing Vick, Now Can We Move On

My father used to always say, “you can’t get blood out of a turnip”.   He would use that expression when he saw somebody futily pursuing something despite the fact that there was no chance of them successfully obtaining their desire.

That’s the case now with all of these Michael Vick inquiries and talk.  Vick isn’t going to be suspended or released because he made the mistake of having a public birthday party near his hometown.  It seems there are many who will never let this thing go.

I give Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie credit for spelling it out.  Yes when Vick was signed Lurie said he wasn’t going to get any more chances.  Lurie doesn’t consider having a birthday party near his hometown, where after the party somebody got shot, an offense worthy of being fired.

The NFL cleared Michael Vick.  The Virginia Beach, Virginia police department cleared Michael Vick, so what else needs to happen.  How many ways can you say it?

“The facts are that there was no wrongdoing,” Lurie said. “If, obviously, that’s wrong, that will become apparent. You can only deal with the facts . . . I can’t sit here and deal with rumors, innuendos and all sorts of things. It’s just not productive . . . The people that did the investigations, they know the facts. So we base it on them. We’re not the experts.”

I know that there are some people who didn’t want the Eagles to sign Michael Vick and still don’t like the fact that the Eagles signed Michael Vick and I can understand why they don’t like it.  The guy is a convicted felon who committed some awful crimes but he’s on the team now.

Lurie understands those people who I was just talking about but he’s not willing to terminate Vick for being at the party but not really doing anything wrong.

“Those that hated that we signed Micahel Vick, or were very upset that we signed Michael Vick, and believe me, I understand that completely, would probably be quicker to jump and say, ‘He showed a lapse of judgment. That’s a huge mistake. End of career.’ I don’t feel that way,” Lurie said. “I feel, as human beings, that was a lapse of judgment. Nothing he did was factually creating any wrongdoing.”

he was our QB for 11 years, how do you figure that is not embracing. We had some great years with DM but its time to move on, get over it and stop talking about it. lets get some discussion about players currently on the team.

Great stuff G. Some people just can’t let a man’s past be the past. Even Lourie doesn’t give a damn about you Vick haters. He just wants to win, and probably sees Vick as his real plan B if A doesnt materialize. It’s apparent in the negative comments towards Vick, the media treatment towards him etc. There’s only a small (true) minority that embraces Vick…I’m one of them. I also embraced Mcnabb, — hell; I also embrace Kolb. True fans support their team and the players through good and bad times. I wonder how many of you bashing Vick would react if he took us on a 7-win streak leading us into the layoffs? Then again, your hatred would probably become more apparent. just admit that you hate him and don’t want him on our team, because the african was a rich supastar that got arrested, served time, and came out making millions with sports and TV shows (making more in one afternoon-2nd string practice than some of you made in the last 2 years). I have to just call it like I see it. After the party, He was proven innocent by Goodel, and Lourie believes him. What more do you want? I’ll support my Qb’s as long as they’re winning. If Vick takes over and starts to screw up, sit his a– on the bench, next man in. Every type of super gifted african Qb doesn’t have to be a so-called “joke box”, or walk around smiling and laughing all the time to be considered a “class act”. #7 is who he is, and to tell you the truth, I like his more nonsensical attitude better anyway. He ain’t got to prove nothing to me as far as his personal life is concerned, just go out there and win ball games.

Rocko-I agree with some of your points, Like you I’ll support my team through good and bad, up and down, win or lose…kinda like marriage…but stop with the “African” remarks. First and foremost there is no room here to bring race or skin color or country of origin into the conversation/posts. Secondly, Vick isn’t “African” he’s not from Algeria, or Niger, or Chad…he’s an AMERICAN..just like you and me, born and bred, bleeds Red White and Blue (and green of course!!) Please stop with all the Black QB talk, G has already said that this will not be tolerated and it shouldn’t be.

Just let Vick alone. If they believe he did nothing wrong then let it be. People who never like the fact that the Eagles signed him will always be quick to judge. They will think anything that happens is “wrongdoing”. Did he make a mistake by having the party? Yes. But the facts say he didn’t do anything wrong at the party. So let it go. Having a party (even if it was a mistake) isn’t enough to get a guy cut. The Eagles and NFL have put a lot on the line to help rehabilitate Vick so it will have to be something a little more serious where Vick actually did something wrong for him to get in trouble.

First of all, I figured that someone would bring “skin color” into the fold. I never mentioned his race. i spoke of his “ethnicity” which is African. I made it a point to mention that, because people mention all of this classy QB talk as if to say…as long as my Qb can make me laugh and tell jokes etc and don’t get in any trouble with the law, then he’s a class act. The word “Black” never came out of my fingers on the keyboard, nor did I ever mention my ethnicity. Stop exposing yourself (you’re Exposed!)and assuming I am who you may assume I am. It’s funny how when individuals get exposed, the sensitive kiss-up nature comes out ready to defend that which you may dislike the most. Peace.

I know I said when he first got out of prison, he deserved a chance to make a living like any other paroled felon, I just hoped it would be for a team other than the Eagles. Well, he’s here. He has been here a year, and nothing about the man suggests he is not trying to be a positive force in the community. Anybody who is awake knows why he was at that party, his broke a@$ brother needed to make some money and got Mike so help him out. He learned a lesson there, I bet. The people around you are going to use you for what they can get. He needs to be careful about who he hangs with, where he goes, but it is like that for any NFL player. He just did not need to pay attention to that before, because he was the hundred million dollar man and he was above the law. Not anymore, lesson learned. Let the man do his thing, live his life and see what he has learned, what new knowledge gets applied. Personally, I just want him to make some plays this year and help the Eagles win. The gov’t said he did his time, why am I going to waste a lot of thought on whether or not they are correct?

and Rock, you pulled a bait and switch there, when you say African, you know full well everybody reads “black”. A semantic argument like that is just trolling for comments/explosions/attention.

He did his time and I want him to help the eagles win as WellWellWell.Everybody just stop spewing how much they hate that we signed our probowl Qb thats all; Support him, for he might be the one to bring the team through in case Kolb falters etc. Peace.

I just wish we could keep it on the Eagles, the other stuff just drags down the site. I simply have no energy for the race argument, it cannot be won in either direction anyway, like trying to push back the tide.

The only race issue we should be discussing on this blog is the NFC East.
