Eagles make some roster moves

Teams all over the NFL are shuffling rosters in order to get down to the 75-man limit. The Eagles are no different and they made some moves today that aren’t all that shocking.

They put Victor Abiamiri on reserve/PUP, which means that he won’t be available until Week 7 at the very least. It’s actually a fortunate move for Abiamiri, because the other option was probably the waiver wire.

They also placed LB/DE Ricky Sapp on injured reserve, which will end his season. Teams were concerned about his surgically repaired knee coming out of college and rightfully so. Rotoworld says he’ll need more surgery on the knee, which is terrible news for his NFL career.

The Eagles did claim someone, picking up DE Pannel Egboh from the Houston Texans trash heap. I would have to think that his only hope is for the practice squad.

They did it again…Victor Abiamiri was our answer opposite Trent Cole…. Remember the smoke they blew up our ass of how they love this guy motor and were fortunate he was available when they grabbed him?

Boy

Now, it’s Ricky Sapp (*See Gocong) who everyone said was a risk and fit the same mold as Gocong as a 3-4 pass rusher.

Something is seriously flawed with this FO when it comes to consistency picking between the 2nd and 4th rounds on defense.

Remember Mccoy was the linebacker of the future? He was a bum and a wasted 3rd rounder. Chris Gocong another waste..Victor Abiamiri another waste

Hell, Trent Cole was like a 5th rounder that this team thought was a long shot.

We need some football people in the FO…wonder if Dick Vermeil would be willing to step in for the tight wads in the Front Office?

Songs, would football people not make mistakes a bunch with the draft? Do you think that there’s ‘football people’ out there would would have like a 80% or higher success rate at drafting guys in the mid rounds? I don’t. Vic has surely been a big disappointment, but he got injured a bunch – yeah, that doesn’t happen very often in the NFL, nope (sarcasm). And sure there have been others, but you’re just saying – shit some of the draft picks really didn’t work out – must be the FO’s fault – hindsight is 20/20, but that’s the nature of the NFL and the draft – about half of the players don’t turn out that well – the Eagles are no worse than other teams there.

Are the Eagles a football organization or a medical and mental rehabilitation center. How many injured players are they going to bring in and supervise their surgery and how many mental patients who are not sure whether they want to play ball or be social. It is a nice rehab stint. Get your guaranteed money and
sit in the tub or padded room and let us know when your ready.

Listen they have to stop with getting these guy coming injuries cheap. It has worked out at all. The TE Ingram= hurt again. Stacy Andrews: Bum. Marlon Jackson= hurt. Sapp=Hurt. Ikeguono (or how the hell you spell it!) =bum. That just some of the guys the last few years that they got knowing they were hurt and thought they were getting some diamond in the rough. This is proof this doesnt work and they need to stop doing it.

Schill, theres something teams that win Superbowls are doing that we are not. Shelling out money to top round players is a faulty practice..yes teams makes mistakes but fewer mistakes in the early rounds. When you make these kind of errors it causes you to make up the difference by shaving in another area of need. Common sense would tell this organization that if 2 players are there to choose from and one had a major surgery, you minimize your risk by picking the player with a good health history and gamble in the real late rounds. This team amazes me…They’ll haggle with their own player if he get injured playing for the team but you’ll turn around and draft or bring in injured players. Something is seriously flawed with this organization thinking.

This is how teams in the NFL hide players for the following year (by placing them on IR)
once a player is waived/released, anyone can grab..
You will see the same thing with TE C Ingram, and most likely CB/S M Harris..
These are players the Eagles like, but don’t feel they are ready to contribute for 2010, so they get an injury and woolah, you place them on IR to keep them around for another year.. Every team does it..
Sapp was a long-shot to make this club at DE and no chance at OLB, with a year of conditioning and putting on about 15-20 lbs of muscle, he may be able to compete in 2011 as a DE..

We were told Sapp would be a part of the “fast balls” Andy lkes to thro w at opposing offenses. This was Roseman’s rendition of the Giants GM drafting multiple DE’s to keep pressure on the line…Now, it’s a convenient tuck away for a year because we like em but he’s not ready…Give me a break…We heard this same trash with Victor Abiamiri …remember?

i never liked or suppoirted V Abriami being chosen in the 2nd Round which was a reach for DE help in a year that was very weak with DE.. very bad pick (as was T laws from Notre Dame too)
But Sapp taken in the 5th was a low risk, hi reward .I think they were hoping that he would have some LB Skills but he just really doesn;t so he will be relegated to a pass-rushing DE but at 245 lbs, he was not big enough or strong enough… (remember T COle was about 250lbs when he was a rookie and very raw) I am not saying the R Sapp will ever make it into the pro,s but to get him in the
5th and stash him away for a year to get bigger, stronger and hang around the complex and learn what it takes to be a pro is a not a bad move draft wise for a 5th Rd selection and especially since the Eagles had 13 Selections, you can afford to grab 2-3 of they type of players to groom for the future.. (This is how good clubs/teams/Gms keep their teams good..keep some talent in the pipeline)
As I mentioned before, I believe the same thing will happen with TE Ingram and S M Harris who probably would have made the team at back-up safety if it wasn;t the great camp and pre-season by
7th Rd pick Coleman who looks like a very good player to me and especailly getting him in the 7th Rd

Songs, you’re “correctomundo” on this; I completely agree. Big E, I think this is a medical and rehabilitation organization thats wants to keep getting junkyard pieces that never work, and then try to tell us fans that they know what they’re doing like were stupid or something. Ozzman, you’re correct – they really need to stop doing this crap. everyone else in agreement with this nonsense needs to go work for the FO and dust their shoes off for them or something because to actually side with this kind of nonsense (that’s been going on for the past 10 years) that’s been getting us nowhere is rediculous. If Howie Roseman wants to keep his job here, he better distance himself from this kind of crap. They’re starting to make him look like a FO CHEAP BASTARD

Abiamari is way too injury prone and brittle. Remember the Freak (that dominant pass rusher) who ran out of the game limping or holding a body part every other play. Even when Victor was healthy he was another push once then play patty cake with the O lineman. DE Pannel Egboh? I guess they thought his name was unique.

I definitely co-sign that Big E. Kearse was the biggest punk I ever saw play defense. He flat out stole money while he was here! I remember it being so ridiculous we made a drinking game out of it. Everytime he limped off or got up gingerly from the pile you had to drink. Needless to say we were drunk off our asses by the 3rd quarter of most games. But seriously I’m tired of AR thinking he can coach up any bum or turn a player who has had success at one role into something completely different i.e. Gocong. Dude’s ego is off the chain but I’d be cool with it if we had a Lombardi trophy in the case just being honest.

Songs all teams are hit and miss in the draft you can only be right half the time if you are good. I would think New England would be a “superbowl” team that is doing something different right?
2008 NFL draft
Pick #10 Jerod Mayord – defensive rookie of the year
Pick #62 Terance Wheatly – Bust, only played as a reserve role since rookie year
Pick #78 Shawn James Crable – Bust, IR two years then released
Pick #94 Kevin O’connell – Bust, waived after first year.

This is just the first 3 rounds of arguably one of the best franchise in football and they were 1 out 4. I would say the eagles are doing ok.
This is the same year in the first 3 rounds the eagles took Laws, Desean, and Brian Smith. 2 out of 3

The Eagles offense will be challenged in the regular season with strong blitzing against Kolb and hard hits on 165 lb Jackson and Macklin who doesn’t like contact. If Reid does’t ulilize his running game at least half the time, I feel for the players. I didn’t see one effective screen play all preseason and the Eagles at one time were a good screen team. Are Andy and Marty going to be predictible again? Will special teams improve coverage and field position. Who is going to return punts.

Phillywilly, do you seriously not get that age and wear/tear has an effect on players and they gold, then their body breaks down, and they are unable to play football? Most people understand this. It’s the reason that Jim Brown doesn’t play football anymore. It’s why Hank Aaron isn’t taking BP this afternoon before a night game. Maybe we should get Randall Cunningham to try to play QB for us since he’s had success and Kolb is unproven. No – because they’re too old. Runyan and Thomas are RE(FRICKIN)TIRED – they’re not Brett Farve “….well, maybe I’m done…”” BS… they’re RETIRED. Westbrook should be. He cannot stay healthy enough to play games. You would rather have him on the team, pay him money, and not have him play football because he can’t anymore than have a player that can do it, do it. Perhaps we should sign and start Jim Thorpe? I hear he has exhibited extroidinary athleticism and the ability to execute. Or maybe the phils should pick up Cy Young off waivers to help their bullpen issues. Would you like to date a grandmother or a hot 25 year old? Age happens – for some reason, you seem to not understand that.

Pw – Westbrook was on the Eagles last year. Are you in complete denial (my best guess) or did you not watch the games last year. What did he do as an Eagle last year? WAY LESS than McCoy. WAY LESS than BUCKLEY. If he is too injured to wear a jersey on game day, no he is not going to make a play or pick up a blitz. You don’t understand that!? Really? And Tra and Runyan are RETIRED – for good reasons. The total sum of NFL teams that want either of them to play football for them is 0 – 0. I guess you know better.

Westbrook was on a quick spiral down, even look back to 2008 and he was not very effective for most games. The Eagles got 8 years of work in 4 seasons from his body, he made his mark and had a great career, but it’s over and has been for a while…
Here’s a RB to keep an eye on – he’s 4 th string for the Panthers named Josh Vaughn who is in his 2nd year out of the UNiversity of Richmond, He’s 6’0 230 lbs has a quick burst, can block and catch
and won’t make the Panthers Roster for they have D Williams,J Stewart and M Goodson all ahead of him on their depth chart.. Vaughn has seen a lot of action since Stewart and Goodson had some minor injuries earlier in camp.. This kid is a player and would be a real good fit in the Eagles Scheme
This kid will land on someones roster after cut-day and I hope it’s the Eagles

PW – I have many times. Yes, I’m Andy Reid. My team is at practice right now, and I have tons of meetings all day, but I send a stunt double to work everyday at the Novacare complex, while I sit at home and post on GCobb.com. You got me, good detective work. All the calls to Roger Goodell, other teams, all the meetings with the Eagles coaching staff, the interview with Dave Spadaro, the coaching of the team, my stunt double does that for me. Yes, I am Andy Reid. ……….. now if I have to answer your question, answer these two – how da hell do you get ‘andy reid’ from my posts? There’s really no connection whatsoever. And 2) How do you think Brian Westbrook did as an Eagle last year? I want your opinion to see just how warped your perception of reality is.

It has always been a problem Schiller where many EAgles fans get too attached to their athletes and don’t want to recognize when their favorite players start to slip.. You can use H douglas, J Trotter,
B Dawkins, S Brown, J Runyam, T Thomas and even D McNabb as prime examples.. These were all great players for the Eagles Franchise and great ambassadors of the City and athe NFL in General,
But FOotball and Time wait for no one, when yuor body starts breaking down, it’s time to warm up the saddle and get someone else ready for the ride, it’s cruel, but that’s they way it is in today’s NFL,
where the margin between excellence and average are are 1/2 step away… Enjoy theses athletes while they are here, for they are compensated very well in the profession that they choose, but let’s not go overboard and think every good player can remain good over a 10-12-14 year career, it’s just not realistic in what has become a young man’s game (for better or worse) …

Big E – first about Calvin – so you think that the way to tell if a football player can effectively return kicks is to check how many youtube videos he has? Ha. The coaches and FO’s around the league don’t use youtube. They deem him as a return man because he did it consistently and often in college. Whether he (makes the team) (and) performs well as a returner in the NFL is yet to be seen. But to say that the kid can’t return kicks because he only has one youtube….really?

Joe Mays looked pretty good in Denver’s last preseason game.

I would say the Eagles should grab pick up Shawn Andrews and kick his tires, but the Giants beat them to it. It’s pretty late at this point to bring in a starting O-Linemen veteran or otherwise, so probably the Austin Howard elevation is probably the best move if not considering King Dunlap who’s gotten a bit bigger and has been looking decent thus far.

If EVER there was a year when the Eagles should have drafted an upper echelon O-Linemean…sheesh. I think Maurkice Pouncey is starting for the Steelers at Center at this point. at least that would have been one resolved position whether it was at center or guard.
