When Is The Best Time To Bring Kevin Kolb Back?

It’s all set now, Michael Vick is ready to start at quarterback and Omar Gaither will be in middle of the defense.  Kevin Kolb and Stewart Bradley have recuperated to the point where they were in the meeting rooms with their teammates yesterday.  They’ve still yet to be cleared to play, but they have both exercised and the concussion symptoms have left.

“We will list today that their game status is that they are out, today”, Andy Reid said after practice on Friday. “They have passed the written part of the concussion test, and then their next step here is to visit with the doctor today and see what the results are there. And that will take place later here.”

Reid has made it a point to say that Bradley has been coming along quicker than Kolb, which might be his way of setting us up for Bradley to return next week but Kolb to be held out for another week.

“Well, they both feel good, so I’m not sure the level to tell you”, the head coach told media members in the Nova Care auditorium. “They both feel very good right now to where they can go meet with Dr. Welch. I will tell you this though, that Bradley was there before Kevin, at that point. Bradley’s felt pretty good here for a couple days.”

The fact that the Birds mistakenly sent both of these guys back into the game against the Packers, puts their decisions concerning Bradley and Kolb under the microscope.  The truth is that all concussions were already under the microscope going into the season, but now they’re under it even more, therefore you can be sure that the Birds aren’t going to rush these guys back.

“We’re going through the process, here”, Reid said. “And so, it’s outlined and that’s what we’re doing. I know they want to get back out there and play, I understand that. But you go through the process and make sure that you listen to the medical people.”

If they were to come back next week, that would put them in the Jacksonville game.  If they come back the week after next, it’ll be against the Redskins as Donovan McNabb returns to Philadelphia.

If Kolb can return next week it will be a no-brainer, but coming back against the Skins would put him in a very tough situation in front of the nation, returning to action against one of the better defenses in the league after struggling through the preseason and his first regular season game.

The Skins match up well against the Eagles wide receivers and their pass rush has improved and could get even better if they start getting production out of Albert Haynesworth.

These leaves Reid with a tough decision.  He can’t rush Kolb back.  If he’s not ready to go against Jacksonville because you surely don’t want him coming back too early.  That would jeopardize the young man’s health and his future.  At the same time, coming back against the Redskins would be a difficult task.

Maybe the best thing to do is hold him out through the Skins game and let him return to action on road against the Niners.  There’s no easy answer to the question.

I would bring him back as soon as he’s healthy and let him attack the challenge.

Are you kidding me? if Kolb does not get in there and play he wont have no future. These guys make so much money and work their entire lives for this moment. Kevin should play as soon as he is cleared wheather its against Jaxs or the skins.

Whether we want Vick or Kolb, they have to bring Kolb back as soon as he’s cleared regardless of who the opponent is. Jags may be too soon but anything after that, the schedule doesn’t get easier. The skins are always a tough matchup but he get’s paid the money to play.

The best time to bring Kevin Kolb back is at the end of the world. Another University of Houston QB that can play at the NFL level.

“That can’t play at the NFL level”. Sorry I proff read like G does.

Well it depends upon the end goal of the season. If it’s to try and get to the big one, you don’t bring him back unless Vick goes down or starts playing poorly.
If he really is the franchises QB for the foreseeable future, you get him back as soon as he’s ready so that he continue to take his lumps and learn and grow into the QB that can lead us to the big one down the line.
It won’t be this year though.

So G…let me get this straight, you want Kolb to be a healthy scratch against the Redskins if that’s the first game he’s medically cleared to play because of what? The Psychological stress of playing McNabb and the Redskins? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? ARE YOU SERIOUS?

The guy is going to sink or swim. It DOESN’T MATTER if you try to put off hurting his wittle feewings a week or two. More importantly the team has subverted the confidence of two already proven successful players to elevate an unproven player into the INDISPUTABLE starting QB position. Why now is Kolb also worthy of additional psychological insulation from reality? To me the way people keep trying to support and shield Kolb he just seems like the likable kind of guy that’s a career 3rd string QB.

Be honest, had the guy thrown a TD and maybe only one near interception last week no one would be talking about holding Kolb out against the Redskins for his mental well being at this point. In fact I’m sure there were a lot of writers and fans that were relishing tha Kolb/McNabb match-up until last week happened.

(Yes I know you didn’t specify shielding him from mental stress, but it’s pretty obvious that’s where this article is headed)

They need to break this kid down and build him up. Just because you’re mechanical doesn’t mean you’re the answer. He needs to see things and take an ass pounding before he’ll be ready.

Yes you do need to say more because he also liked: McNabb, westbrook, Lito, Sheldon, Deshaun, Weaver, McCoy, Bradley, Graham, ……… I guess which ever direction we all want to go we can all say more. kolb needs to get back on thst horse so he and all us can see if he can ride the bronco or if he is a pony man. The worst thing is to not know. So lets know Go Eagles, I am ready for the lions game 1-1 and in the NFCE race is those other guys we love to hate can find it in their hearts to lose one for the gipper. Thank you very much

depends who the good time is for. if vick plays well against det, and possibly the following week, we should stick with vick and not ruin a good thing (good as in winning). if its ugly vs det then im sure kolb will get “healthy” for week 3.

kolb needs to get back ASAP to have a chance at being the starting QB for the Philadelphia Eagles.if although i agree kolb deserves his chance because he is the reason mcnabb got traded, if vick makes us a winner dont change something that works is all im saying…

What the hell is this mindset claiming Kolb must get back ASAP? For What?

Let me get this right…to see if he can play?

We seen him play!!!!!!!!!!

We were told he couldn’t get in a groove when a pro player produce with every opportunity on every snap (Did the wildcat with Vick affect Mcnabb numbers last year?).

We coddle Kolb by claiming the offensive line is weak yet say he must get back ASAP to play behind the same offensive line?

Why? Why is their a feeling we must play Kolb knowing what we know already?

Like Herman Edwards said…..”WE PLAY TO WIN THE GAME”

Now, if we’re playing to see if Kolb can cut the mustard and we’re willing to sacrifice the season….. this mindset should be applied to the whole team.

Let’s put players we are not sure about in starting positions across the board. Why not?

We’re not going to win anyway…Right?

Let’s play all the 2nd and 3rd stringers with Kolb. They get on the job practice at the expense of a wasted season making them that much better for the future.

Make sense?

I thought so….We play to win the game and Vick gives us that right now.

If Vick get hurt or proves he’s a back up then and only then should Kolb get a 2nd chance.

A starting QB normaly should not lose a position due to injury but Kolb have not proven to us he’s a starting QB and if Kolb is not the future shouldn’t we see if Vick have improved ?

Vick have been patient and the opportunity fell in his lap and he seized it. Thank you Mr Vick would be the correct response to his play not disrespecting him by claiming his talent should be wasted at the expense of an unproven, average arm, immobile quarterback that choked up on opening day with the whole nation watching.

No more disrespect…Thank you Michael Vick

Thank you

Probably the 2012 Season is my thinking for Kolb
Let Vick play out 2010 for it gives the Eagles the best chance of winning now (which still will only be 7-8 games at most) Then there is the Owners Lockout/Players Strike in 2011 so there will be no football. Then have Kolb back in Summer Camp to compete with Kafka as the #1 Starter to being the 2012 Season (Vick will move on after 2010 to the a team looking for a QB Vikings/Jags/Cardinals)

Songs, I’ve figured it out buddy. A lot of these so called fans have a personal grudge against Vick thats not football related. What kind of fool would start an unproven, non throwing, scared in the pocket, throwing jump balls up to covered receivers, slow as heck Qb; over a proven winner
(Yep…Damn thats Michel Vick!) who has all of these traits. “IT’S RUBBISH”. The fact that theres disagreements over whether to start a proven stud over a dud, lets me know that this is not football related. Those are the kinds of fans that end up swaying the f.O. not to keep a guy like vick around because of their personal hatred for his past mistakes; and anything money related will have the FO shivering goosebumps. Thats all this really comes down to.Old-school Eagle fans could care less…now you got these soft/patty-cake a– clowns pacifying a Qb who has shown he can’t play NFL football. He needs to be sent to a developmental league to try to get better or something, and we need F.O. people with some balls like Jerry Jones who just wants his best payers out there playing. Ever noticed how all the trouble the cowboys got into, Jerry didn’t really care as long as they went to court, received time/punishment, corrected their behavior and they were back on the field playing? The FO sucks, and these “give Kolb a chance to develop while our other supastars around waste their talent waiting for him to catch up” can go join another team for all I care. “GARBAGE”

Rocko, I think you hit the nail on the head and some are not willing to forgive Vick for past transgressions. But, I think that’s coupled with the Eagles Brass desire to have the next Brett Favre. You noticed when Kolb was drafted Reid insinuated that the Kid reminded him of another number “4”. Raised on the farm…coaches kid….straight shooter and a media darling. Think about it….Favre won only one Superbowl but was a media magnet for Green Bay and regardless of his interceptions…he could do nothing wrong…the total contrast to Mcnabb relationship with the media. Kolb would be the “Golden Boy” that the world loves win or lose. Kolb was supposed to be the next Brett Favre in our eyes but there’s one big problem…..Kolb could only dream of having the guts and arm Favre possess. While I think Favre is overrated you can’t question his heart and there’s no way he would have let anyone talk him out of playing the entire game last Sunday Concussed or not..Favre is a competitor.

Some people have “IT”…and some people don’t…Kolb just don’t have “IT”.

Exactly…Guys like Farve, Coach Singletary, Ryan and Parcells are made of Iron. all they want to do is win no matter what. They would never draft or play with a guy like Kolb. Kolb comes from that new “soft-generation dont hit the Qb type rules”. He’s to nice to the media as well. I checked out some of his college football days and he was playing basically high school football. This is the NFL where Gridiron greats are made. In college, he would heave the ball in the air to his receivers who were faster and taller than d-backs, and he was using a spread vanilla offense. he doesn’t seem to be a true competitor (because he’s to scared in the pocket), and Reid isn’t the kind of coach that would let the FO have it if he wasn’t satisfied with Kolb and wanted to keep Vick in the game. The best thing about being an eagle is that the REAL FANS will boo the heck out of hiim on the home turf. That’s what the FO, Reid, and Kolb may need to let them know us fans aren’t satisfied with this organization. Just wait til the Redskins come to town and they try to start Kolb; It will be just as worse than when santa got snowballed.
