If we were to pick an offensive, defensive and special teams MVP for the Eagles after seven games who should they be.
Of course on the offense you could pick one of the quarterbacks, either Michael Vick or Kevin Kolb. Both Vick and Kolb have missed games because of injury. They have each played great at times.
Vick was the NFC Offensive Players of the Month in September. Kolb won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Atlanta Falcons.
You would have quite a few reasons to pick LeSean McCoy who has contributed in each game. He’s the team’s leading rusher with 477 yards with a 4.5 yard per carry average. He also leads the team with 38 catches.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin leads the wide receivers in catches, yards and touchdowns. He has 30 catches for 458 yards with six touchdown catches. He’s averaging 15.3 yards per catch and he catches a touchdown every five catches he makes.
McCoy and Maclin each have big-time statistics for a running back and a wide receiver in only their second-year in the league.
On the defensive side of the ball there are two players who could be considered the team’s defensive MVP, so far this season.
One of those guys is defensive end Trent Cole, who has contributed 36 tackles and six sacks. Cole has one of the best motors in the NFL. The guy plays hard and he does it all the time.
The other is cornerback Asante Samuel, who has come down with three interceptions and 20 tackles in the six games he has played. Samuel missed a game because of a concussion. I even have to give him credit for improving his tackling.
As for the special teams MVP, I think it has to go to David Akers or Sav Rocca. The Birds haven’t done much in regards to returning punts or kickoffs.
Akers has made 11 our of 15 field goals and he’s having a great year with the length and height of his kickoffs.
Rocca has averaged nearly 48 yards per punt, which has to be amongst the best in the league.
In my opinion, McCoy is hands-down the offensive MVP. He has been the engine.
Asante may be the most productive defensive player, but I think Bradley might be the most “valuable” player. Although he’s not playing lights-out, this defense just isn’t the same without him.
Must agree drummer. You cant be offensive MVP and only play half the games. So honestly Im going with McCoy on offense with McGlynn a close second. McCoy is every bit as dynamic as Westbrook was with (IMO) him being a better pure runner. McGlynn has stepped right in and this is the best running game we have had in years and it seems like not alot of pressure comes from his area. On defense I will go with Cole hes there best player. Dixon is a stud and by the end of the year will get consideration. Special teams? Pathetic, to be determined.
Cooper needs to play. Avants reps should decrease. Its true he catches everything but he just isnt a playmaker. You can tell Cooper is kinda like Hollywood. He is a playmaker and has a little Florida swagger to him. I can invision Cooper and Maclin on the outside with Jackson in the slot. You could mix it up all day long. Put Maclin in the slot or Cooper. McCoy and Schmidt out of the backfield and Vick at qb. You have to be excited about this offense.
If Vick had been playing the whole year the team would easily be 7-0 so he’s clearly the MVP.
And now a word from Vinnietheinventor? LOL
Paulman’s MVP for Eagles do far for the Season
Offense —
McCoy without a doubt has been the key to this Offense season to date
McGlynn,Maclin are a close 2nd for playing very well and consistent all Season so far
(Probably Vick would be the #1 if he were healthy and played in all the games)
Defense –
Mickell has probably been the most consistent performer all Season long so far
T Cole a close 2nd but has disappeared in a couple of games (Redksins,Titans in 2nd half)
A Samuel has played more physical this year, but has left 5-6 Int’s on the field this year
S/Teams –
S Rocca and J Colvin stand out Season to date
Disappointments so far
Offense – J Peters, B Celek,MIke Bell (glad he’s gone)
Defense – Bunkley,Patterson, and Sims (but SIms is playing better of late)
Possible Diamonds in the Rough
FB Schmitt, OT K Dunlap, A Dixon, J Colvin
Best Coach of the Staff
Coach MM and QB Coach J Urban who have improved Vick’s pocket prescence and improved Kolb’s field vision with solid preapration and games plans
Most Disappointing Coach
Specail Teams B April (though they are improving) and DC McDermott (Defense has struggled late in games)
Most Improved Poster – Anthony SIlva & Well,Well,Well, Dummer & Scorpion,PW, SOngs and NavyDave
Most Disappointing Poster – Paulman and Micah
McCoy, Trent Cole and a kicker. That’s pretty much it.
Paulman’s NFL Picks for Week #8 (Overall Record of 58-46)
Lions over the Redskins
Cowboys over the Jags
Miami over the Bengals
Chiefs over the Bills
Rams over the Panthers
Broncos over the 49ers
Jets over the Packers
TItans over the Chargers
TB Bucs over the Cardinals
NE Pats over the Vikings
Raiders over the Seahawks
Steelers over the NO Saints
Colts over the Texans
I see a lot of road teams winning today and though the Eagles are off today, there are lots of
competing NFC Teams and Games in which the Eagles could use some teams to lose like the Redskins,Packers,TB Bucs,Seattle,NO Saints to help keep the Eagles right in the middle of the playoff chase.. Enjoy your Halloween and the games
Offensive MVP – Shady McCoy. He’s played great even with broken ribs. Vick has missed games.
Defensive MVP – DT Dixon – shows how weak the others have been.
Special Teams – Sav Rocca – Much improved. Pink slip for the rest.
