DeSean Jackson worked out today and he’s been cleared to play, but the Eagles aren’t sure he’ll be in the lineup this Sunday afternoon and he’s not sure he’ll be in the lineup on Sunday.
“I don’t know yet”, Jackson said. “We’ll see. Go out through the week. We’ll see how I do and things like that. Still, it’s only Wednesday, so we still have a couple of days to get a feel for how I’m doing.”
Of course his teammates are eager to see him return to action. Quarterback Michael Vick seemed to be eager for Jackson’s return.
“If DeSean comes back and plays, I expect him to do great things—do what he’s capable of doing within a football game”, Vick said. “We can’t put all of the pressure on DeSean to make plays for this ball club. Like I said, we have 11 guys on this offense and we all want to go out there and put it together ourselves and help DeSean in the process.”
Head coach Andy Reid said they’re going to see how Jackson does at practice this week, but he wouldn’t guarantee that the little guy will be out there this Sunday.
You learn something new everyday. I had no idea that Ellis Hobbs was playing with a hip flexor in the Tennessee game. Hobbs seemed to feel he had been done wrong by the media in this instance.
We all learned today that the former New England Patriots corner was playing with an injury, while being toasted and roasted by Kenny Britt of the Titans. According to Hobbs, he’s been having a problem with his hip for a while.
He just didn’t say anything about it after the game because he doesn’t believe in making excuses. Andy Reid talked about Hobbs injury today at his weekly Wednesday news conference.
I am glad to find out Hobbs is hurt, it gives him an excuse. But if he was that bad off he needed to get himself out of the game. Playing hurt and not letting anyone know about it can cost a team games that they might not have otherwise lost. Brad Lidge has done the same thing, trying to pitch when he isn’t right, not letting anybody know about it, and pitching poorly. It’s a slippery slope, the players do nto want to appear soft, but they end up looking like they suck.
I thought that Hobbs looked injured. Although I don’t remember him getting necessarily torched as bad as Hobbs, I saw Sheldon Brown’s play deteriorate at times last year when he played hurt. I can’t imagine that a cornerback that isn’t necessarily fast to beging with, if their speed and change of direction is affected by injury, there’s just no way they can play at the same level.
I hope special teams steps up and makes some plays this week.
