Vick Will Need To Be Patient And The “O” Must Stay Away From Mistakes

Don’t fool yourself, Michael Vick isn’t going to beat the Indianapolis Colts by himself. He needs to play at a high level, but he’s going to need quality play from his offensive line and his receivers.  Indianapolis dominated the Texans talented offense on Monday night, so the Birds’ job won’t be easy.

They must be focused on the detail of their game plan.  Mistake-free execution is the goal.  Indianapolis doesn’t give up many long touchdowns, so they’re going to force the Eagles to be consistent.

Like a competitor in a tennis match, the Eagles offense must eliminate unforced errors, which means avoiding penalties, dropped passes and poor throws.  They’ve got to stay out of third and longs, while putting together long, flawless drives.

In light of the Colts prolific offense which is sure to put some points on the board, Vick and the Birds need to not only control the football but score touchdowns when they get their opportunities.

They need a big game out of LeSean McCoy, both in the running game and in the passing game.  He needs to continue to make the first guy miss on check down routes, while finding some openings inside in the running game.  It’s nearly impossible to outrun the Colts outside, so you’ve got to run the ball right at them.

Vick will need to get the ball to Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek and  McCoy underneath, then eventually start hitting them on intermediate routes.

We don’t know whether DeSean Jackson is going to play or not, but regardless of whether he plays or not, they need to take a shot or two deep.  I don’t mean throwing the ball up for grabs, but you’ve got to threaten the secondary deep or Indy’s speedy group will gradually start creeping up until they’ve made throwing short impossible.

Once the safeties are threatened deep, it will give Vick and his receivers more room to work underneath.

Backup wide receivers Jason Avant and Riley Cooper could play a huge role in this game plan.  You’ve got to be able to catch the ball underneath against the Colts and be willing to take a beating after they catch the ball.  Avant and Cooper have the size and toughness to flourish in those situations.

The Colts don’t play as much double-zone, as they have in the past, but they still like to keep at least one safety deep in order to prevent wide receivers from beating them for long easy scores.

We don’t know whether Eagles left tackle Jason Peters will be ready to go this week or not, but they’re going to have to help the tackles block Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, regardless of which tackles start.  King Dunlap and Winston Justice don’t have any chance of blocking the Cots defensive ends by themselves.  It will mean keeping the Celek in at times and chipping with McCoy.

They can’t afford to let either those guys force a fumble or two by Vick, who must make protecting the ball one of his goals in the game.  Kelvin Hayden picked off a pass against the Texans and ran it in for a score and that proved to be one of the reasons for the Colts victory on Monday night.

Vick said he watched Indy’s bend but don’t break style of defense, so he knows that they’re going to try to lure him into making mistakes.  He’s got to be patient while taking advantage of any chances they get deep.

The Birds will have to play well to get the “W” this week.  It’s a good thing that the Colts won’t have a full week to get ready, while the Eagles are fresh from having the previous week off.

1st things 1st…. The eagles are looking at a mirror image of the same defense…. Small and very quick….. Yes we have to get the ball out very quickly because mathis and freeney (Beast) and Vick has to realize that!!! Balance is the key and I know that Peyton is going to test now starting corner (D. Patterson) against a great Wr. Reggie Wayne but Patterson has the size….. and is not a gambler like Ellis Hobbs but hopefully Nate Allen will be around to give Patterson that safety blanket… No Dallas Clark thank GOD so that gives the Birds an extra LB to help put pressure on Manning at times because we all know Peyton is not going to hurt us with his feet…… Yes the front 4 will have to do the job to put pressure on Peyton…. I hope Mcdermott will put together some 3-4 formations because Manning struggles against teams like NE,BAL,Texans (this year),Jets, who all play 3-4 defense. T.O. with this year have been stupid fumbles for the birdz this season and I hope that the Birdz prevent that this game because we dont want Peyton to have a short field against us because we all know the history with this guy LOL!

The Colts dont intimidate me! Yes, Manning is the “TRUTH”, but noone else on that team scares me. Dont get me wrong there are a few talented players on both sides of the ball, but we’ve played against talents like those before. Monday night game, the Texans simply looked awful, the Colts got at Schaub from the very first snap…Which made him very shaky in the pocket…The ends won’t be able to rush Vick in that manner, they’ll need to keep contain on the edges or they will get burned! We will be able to run the ball effectively against the Colts as well! They are at the bottom of the league in defending the run. They give up damn near 5 yards a rush. With Vick’s presence McCoy should do some damage.
The Colts are just as concerned with the problems that Vick presents them, as we are concerned with Manning! Our pass coverage definitley has to be 10X times better than week 7. If we can cover the receivers for just a second longer, hopefully we can put pressure on Manning.

Lets go Vick! Lets Go Eagles!

Look for Vick to test the middle of the field Deshawn (if he plays) and Maclin because the Colts will play that cover 2 scheme to prevent the long play so yes Celek, Cooper, and Avant have to do DAMAGE against that middle…. I hope that Chad Hall can be our Danny Woodhead (please) and he can contribute with short first down conversions. I see us Finally winning 34-17 BIRDZ…. Peyton 23-51 284yrds. 2td. 4ints. 2 fumbles, 1 lost fumble….. Oh yea we have to watch the STRETCH RUN…… That KILLS the BIRDZ…. Vick 245yrds. passing 2tds. passing 1 run td. 45yrds. rushing 1 pick….. Go birdz………………………….

Real Talk777 Im with you bro! It’s just been awful for the past years since we have played the Colts as a fan that we have no CURE or TREATMENT or ANTIDOTE to stop this guy PEYTON MANNING. HIS rating is OUT OF THIS WORLD against us he has a Perfect RATING! I think in the 130’s!!!

I think Ernie Simms will be a factor in this game MARK MY WORDZZZZ! He will come through for the Birdz this week…. This Bye couldn’t come at a better time because he can get more familiar with the defensive scheme!!! And Antonio “Contract Extension DIXON”!!!! I love this guy he’s going to be the next Albert Haynesworth or Shaun Rogers!!! GOOOOOO BIRRRRDDZZZZZZZ

@Jroc

Ernie Simms? I hope you are right!…Antonio, didnt play too bad against the Titans…Our line and linebackers have been underachieving in my opinion..Not sure if Bradley is still having concussion issues or not, but he has not produced as expected.. given he didnt play last year….Hopefully, the bye week will benefit them all! hopefully they all start playing with the T Cole swagger!

This will be a big test for the Eagles offense and Vick. The can’t afford to match Indy’s big strike offense as our defense will get toasted and will be gasping for air. The offense has to keep Manning off the field by maintaining long, consistent drives. This comes as a result of hitting the short, intermediate routes. If Vick can execute and the receivers catch the ball, Eagles have a very good chance of winning. If Vick can do this I am more apt to buy in

I feel you real talk777, I hope so to bro!! Do you think that King Dunlap has a chance against freeney? Because King Dunlap plays high and Freeney plays sooo low to the ground that Dunlap will have trouble against that. But the plus is that Vick is left handed and can see him coming!! Vick can “RUN SO FAST HE’LL BE KICKING HIS OWN ASS”! and other words (get the hell outta dodge!!!)

jroc…Manning has a history of exploiting defenses that try and attack him with blitzing linebackers.

G’s whole point was that they will need to get pressure with the front 4.

While I hope I am wrong, I believe that Manning will more likely exploit Simm’s and his undisiplined aggressive play. He will screen right behind him.

yea I believe Dunlap will have some difficulties with Freeney! LMAO, there was a classic shot of Freeney bull rushing Texans LT Duane Brown, classic…He got under his pads and road him into his QB LOL (fundamental football to the T)…His style of play definitely would give Dunlap some trouble..maybe the performance drugs Brown used, had some side effects?? lol
Very good point, Vick being left handed will counter Freeney’s rush…Freeney will probably have to change his approach with Vick behind center. Jason Peters should be back, which will give us another option as well…Mathis was a little banged up after the game on Monday, (left knee) hopefully this will slow him down a bit too..

The eagels are in trouble if Vick has to run, because of poor offensive line play..We definitely do not want him taking off alot increases his chances of being hit…But if Vick is running here and there its not a bad thing…If hes running to pick up a first down, or a five yard gain on 1st down, its just as effective as throwign the football…

I think someone should pay the Bus Driver who picks up the Colts from the Airport and have him bypass the Team Hotel and take the Colts directly to Atlantic CIty and feed them pasta and liquor on the way down..Then have a couple of “Paisans” take out Freeney/Mathis/Wayne & Manning like I saw
on new HBO Show “Boardwalk Empire”
I would Volunteer to do, but I will be taking my Grandmother to her local Bingo game that evening..

I agree. It’s Vick running for his life to avoid pressure. That would be a bad sign

There are a lot of fans hoping Vick fails so Kolb gets his chance just like there were still are a lot of fans that hoped Kolb would play poorly so Vick would play. These are not true Eagles fans. We true Eagles fans want this team to win no matter who the quarterback. With that being said, I am not going to drink the kool aide until it is safe. We will see.

We were real high on the two linebackers Cheaney and Clayton so why not give them a shot because they do have the speed to cover what I heard Wr’s…? Put alot of new faces against Peyton and Fresh Legs I think that the Birdz will be fine!!!!!

jroc…do you really want to throw a bunch of rookies out there against Peyton Manning? I too like Lindley’s size, but Manning has a habit of picking on the weakspots of a defense. A lack of experience here could cause issues for the defense. Maybe I am wrong and the kid steps up, but chances are he would be exploited.

Greenfan my man!!! Why not!! Look i feel u on putting young guys out there…. But you have to have fresh legs on the field… Im not saying every down but maybe some 2nd and long conversions or 3rd and long it will give these young guys alot of confidence!!! ANd trust me I bet money on Patterson and Lindley over Ellis Hobbs and Joselio Hanson….. Even tho Hanson has been playing better since preseason but I still dont trust the guy!!! But they have to get the experience….. But it always seems to me greenfan that young rookies or guys with lack of experience seem to have success against the Birdz….. For some Fuckin Reason….. Maybe it will work for us this time I hope!!!! Guys like Ahmad Carrol you know what I mean!!!! LOL
