We’ve all been thinking it, but now we might see it actually become a reality. According to Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com, Eagles DT Brodrick Bunkley will play this week against the Indianapolis Colts. However, it’s not shocking that Antonio Dixon will get the start considering Bunkley is still coming off of a pretty severe elbow injury.
But, will Bunkley ever get his starting job back? Dixon has played very well in his short time in the lineup. Sure, right now Bunkley most likely isn’t 100%, but what if Dixon continues to play like this?
The fact is that pretty much any offense in the history of the NFL will crumble if you continually blow things up in the middle. It changes everything. And Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley simply haven’t done that. Dixon, however, has been much better at it.
No, he’s not Kevin Williams or Warren Sapp. But he’s giving you something there in the middle and it’s too valuable to the defense to throw away.
We don’t know how much Bunkley will play this week in the rotation, but moving forward this is definitely something to keep an eye on.
So what would you do? Give Bunkley his starting job back when he’s back to full strength? Or ride Dixon and essentially Wally Pipp Bunkley?
As we have seen with QB Vick over Kolb, OLB Fokou over Jordan, CB Patterson over Hobbs,
and maybe a few other changes as the Season progresses, It’s no time to be worrying about hurt egos, or how a player even lost his starter spot. It’s about Starting and Playing the player(s) who are playing at the highest level, who are healthy and able to practice and who bottom line give the Team the best chance to win and right now that’s A Dixon without a doubt (some of us have been calling for this since summer camp) .The Eagles and Coaching Staff are in it to win it…
Bunkley has had plenty of time the prove what he could do. Let him rotate with Patterson. When J. Parker was replaced by Graham he elevated his game. Maybe a demotion will make Bunkley and “no Push” Patterson play harder.
Wonder if Bunkley can learn the Left Offensive Tackle Position..
I predict that this will be Eagles LT Jason Peters final game in an Eagle Uniform
Hey Pman why do you say this is Peters last game as an Eagle, just curious. You know you have to be more clear buddy, wide open statements like that does us uneducated fellas no good at all. If you have an idea share it, other wise cut that crazy talk. An yes I am really interested in your thoughts on that statement. That’s not a negative shot either you are cool in my book partner.
I think things are starting to form and take shape for the Eagles to make their traditonal late season run, all the required players are starting to float to the top of the heap to be recognized and inserted. Note: Vick, Dixon, Fokou, Patterson, Dunlap, Cooper, Hall; and there will be more maybe Harrison, maybe a healthy graham. Anyway we will see, I am encouraged we are at this point in time as good as any other team in the NFC that is play, chemistry, and attitude wise.
One more day and we can put the Colt winning over Eagle legacy to bed, and give them happy go lucky Giants a thin or two to consider befor they start counting up their so called bye teams. I heard a giant fan say that, haaaaa really.
As always brothers……………………LONG LIVE THE EAGLES …………. this season and beyond 🙂
I believe J Peters and his ineffective play will come to a boiling point in this week’s game and possibly even cost the Eagles a Victory. He will be benched in the 3rd Quarter and replaced by Austin Howard (who will be activated since K Dunlap is hurt and won’t be active) Howard plays well and him and Dunlap will fight it out for the Starters Spot for the Remainder of the Season while Peters broods on the Sidelines and becomes a issue during the practice week making the Eagles De-Activate him and eventually release him. This is my story and I am sticking with it…
Nice story brother, hope you are wrong though, we’ll see. Anyway I hope he plays goodfootball because I’d like to see the boys win.
Everybody, Whaddup! This is my first comment. I’ve probably been reading the blogs & comments on this site for a little over a year. I dont know man, get off my back, I didnt feel like signing up and all that, ok.
Anyway, to Paulman I agree with you on Peters- except for one thing. I truly believe the Eagles can win, despite his poor plays. Dwight Freeney nor Mathis can play too far inside, or they get torched by Vick. They play too far outside thinking contain, and McCoy goes off. I believe McCoy is going to have a big day going up the middle. If they run the ball- which they’ve shown we can do. If- they convert on 3rd downs, and score touchdowns in the redzone- which they’ve shown they can do. Peyton will be on the sidelines all day- with that look he be having…..And if both defenses play like I think they will, then thats a push.
Has anybody else seen that commercial, where they talk about the word “if”?
Patriots just activated OL MAnkins to their Roster and released 2 players..
2 Players realeases are
CB T Wheatly and LB T McKenzie who at 6’2″ 240lbs, may be worth looking at for some future depth
(to replace O Gaither) he was a 3rd Rd Pick in 2009 for the Patriots who have some depth at LB …
We should have tried to get Mankins. BUt Andy and Howie are not currently taking my calls. They never listen.
Bunkley should get the starting job back when he’s 100% and Patterson should ride the pine, he’s been the least effective of the two and hasn’t improved much with the addition of Dixon to the starting line up. Darryl Tapp is also playing pretty effectively from the tackle spot so that’s another name to throw in the hat.
They should just kill that creed that you can’t lose your starting job to injury. That was from a different era of the NFL. The fact is that it is a BIG business. And if you don’t win, you (the head coach) and the people around you will get fired sooner or later. So you have to put the people on the field that give you the best opportunity to win any given game. If a player that steps in for an injured player is much better then that’s just too bad. If the injured player was better and gave the team the best chance to win a particular game then they would be on the field.
I could see the same thing happening with Ellis Hobbs. I really hope some other CB is ready and able to play better than him. I wish Trevard Lindley was able to. Anybody have any idea if Calvin can actually play CB? We all know what Hanson can do. Who knows, maybe Patterson will surprise us?
I’ll give Allen a pass on his play last week – he’s a rookie and has played mostly well other games. Only dig I ‘ve had on Allen so far this year is that it seems like there were a few sacks he could have had if he was there one step faster. But I’m not willing to give Hobbs a pass for his play last week – he’s a veteran. I appreciate his toughness, but if you are hurting your team its okay to tell someone you are hurt. I guess if a CB is blazing fast to begin with that they might be able to play through a lower body injury. But if you’re not that fast (like Hobbs) then you can’t do that. Maybe an upper body injury but not anything that makes you even slightly slower or impacts your mobility.
Are there even any free agent CBs out there? Really not sure what options the Eagles have at CB except hoping that someone on the team can step up. Hopefully that can happen with someone like Dick Jauron coaching them.
I liked the story as well, right up to the part where the Eagle’s lose.
This is a Must-Win if the Eagles want to be a legitimate Playoff Contender for the rest of the Season
edogma – 100% correct.

I agree. with butch007….Once Bunkley is healthy & shows he can perform, then it should be Dixon and Bunkley and bring Patterson and Laws off bench. Don’t be surprised if Eagles trade Patterson to Seattle during draft day to move up or for some additional picks. Pete Carroll really likes collecting his boys from USC and he loved Patterson when he was their, maybe he can get more out of that bum than we did.
This article should be titled, ” Eagles to Play, Colts to Lose!”
GO BIRDS!
I’m with you Mancini!
Is it 4:00 yet? Seems like it’s been weeks since the Eagles played.
