After the first 10 games of the young NBA season, your Philadelphia 76ers are a whopping 2-8 in the win-loss column. At times, they show signs of what they could be. They show that this team has an abundance of talented players…but they still appear to be missing something. Other times they look like a team that has no business being on the floor. Sixers head coach Doug Collins is doing the best he can with what he was given. Unfortunately, the team needs a little more. If their record was not a sign, the pulse of the city, or lack there of should be. Every game there appears to be one more empty seat and on the local sports talk radio stations you couldn’t pay a person to call up and talk about the team in a positive light. It’s a sad thing because this team has a bunch of young guys that still have a chance to be something eventually. Jrue Holliday is not a bad player. I still believe in this kid and think he has the ability to become a solid NBA player and a solid point guard also. Will he be Rajon Rondo or Chris Paul? No, but he will be good enough for the team. Remember, he is only 20 and is embarking on his first NBA season as a starting point guard. Give the kid a little time to learn the game and adapt. Every player does not always have a smooth transition from college to the pros. The same can be said about Evan Turner. Can all the “Evan Turner is a bust” comments please stop? Is the kid the next Kevin Durant or even the next Brandon Roy, no. But he can play the game of basketball and is not scared on the court. Must I remind you in his first NBA game he took it to Dwyane Wade on the baseline during the second half? A guy that Turner was probably in awe of and finally got the chance to go against. Yes, he has had some stinker games so far, but again he is a young player so cut him some slack. Lou Williams has been playing at a level that I wasn’t sure he could ascend to consistently. I knew the guy could score, but wow. He is turning into the type of player that would be a great fit on a contending team. For a guy that is NOT a superstar, he gets to the line with the best of them. It seems like every time you look up, Lou is at the charity stripe. In fact, Lou is the floor general on what I consider the most productive lineup for the 76ers (Lou, Turner, Holliday, Thaddeus Young, Elton Brand). By far, Lou has been the MVP of the team thus far while securing serious consideration as an early contender for Sixth Man Of The Year. Elton Brand must be the most hated guy on the team, but for the life of me I cannot understand why. Now before you try to find hit me harder than Mike Tyson hit Zach Galifianakis in Hangover let me explain. Brand is playing well this season and is averaging more points (16) and rebounds (7) than he did last season. Andre Iguodala on the other hand, well, lets just say that the milk has expired. It’s time to move on and just cut ties. Iguodala is far from a scrub, in fact his on the ball defensive abilities are amongst those of the best in the league. However, he doesn’t fit in well with this team. Yeah he is young technically, but the younger guys need more playing time along with Andres Nocioni. Consequently, keeping Iguodala on the team will prevent that from happening. My advice is try to ship him to a team for an expiring contract and possibly a young big man in return. Despite all the positive words about the young talent on the Sixers, it’s still very hard to give a high grade to a team with a 2-8 record. So I give the team a D+ for the first ten games. The 76ers aren’t worthy of a failing grade just yet, they have the potential to become better with time if the right moves are made. NO MORE PROFANITY IN THE COMMENTS - IF YOU CONTINUE IT YOU WILL BE BANNED
NOTE: This was written prior to the Sixers game vs. the Cavs on Tuesday
I think any article trying to shed any positive signes about the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers is
Profanity, but that’s just one persons opinion….Sorry John, I think they should just move this Fanchise to another city (Omaha,El Paso,Seattle) or even to another Country (Montreal,Ottawa,Calgary)
Until COB Ed Snider is out of the picture, they will never be even mediocre..
To jerv215,
a well-written,informative article though..
The whole article is a repeat of.. He’s not a star, but… Well guess what, you can’t win without stars. You can’t even compete. If you’re the #2 overall pick and you’re not a star, you’re a bust.
Holiday may develop into a solid starting NBA point guard
Turner may develop into a solid 6th man
Lou Williams stinks. He’s just a chucker who compiles stats. Look at his HORRIBLE shooting percentage.
Elton Brand would be a good player if he was a roll player on a very good team. He can’t jump anymore.
Speights is soft
Thad would be a good 10min a night player on a good team
Iggy would be a nice 6th man on a good team
@ Paul – Thank you. Moving the team may be a little harsh, but I do agree something has to change. Maybe ownership should consider selling the team or at least start showing they care about the team
@ Mugzy how can you say Lou stinks…he is clearly the spark plug on the team? He is shooting over 85% from the foul line and shooting over 37% from 3? His scoring is up and he is also showing the smarts on the offensive end (meaning a lot of the dumb shots are not being taken)
1st off lou williams should be starting along with evan turner
and put project eric jrue snow on the bench
we r losing cause we have no pg period
if andre miller were here we r 5-5 6-4
but we have to play project holliday for some reason
move iggy for a bag of donuts lose every game draft sullinger
Only kidding about moving the franchise Jerv215,
But I do wish that Ed Snider would sell the team to a more passionate Basketball person who would maybe give a hoot about improving the team… Remember Pat Croce, who proably doesn’t know much about Basketball but had a passion about having a successful team and atmoshpere at the 76ers games and know who to bring energy and customer/fan service to the business parts of things.. ..
They are pathetic and poor inside defenders, poor rebounders and get beat off the dribble at will. They make stupid mistakes at crucial moments and are downright poor at shot selection.
