The Giants Will Be A Real Test For Eagles

After what the Eagles did to the Washington Redskins Friday night, it is easy to put them atop the NFC right now. But before we all get drunk off the Kool-Aid and plan the parade down Broad, let’s take a second and remember who the Eagles beat last night.

The Redskins have been beaten by both the Lions and Rams this season.  Their defense is giving up 25 points a game and the most yards in the league. Simply put, the Redskins are not one of the top teams in the NFC this year. The Eagle did what they had to do- beat a bad team- but to claim they are the best, they have to beat the best.

And to many people, that is the New York Giants.

Before last week’s loss to the Cowboys, the Giants were viewed by many as the class of the NFC.  The Giants are beating teams the way they did during their Super Bowl run- by pressuring the quarterback and forcing bad decisions. They have used that pressure from the front four into 25 sacks, 3 less then the league leading Rams.  They have also forced 24 turnovers, 14 resulting from forced fumbles.

The Giants ability to strip the ball could be a real problem for the Eagles. While LeSean McCoy has been better about holding onto the ball this season, he still tends to carry the ball away from his body. The Giants must be salivating watching him carry the ball on tape. Throw in Michael Vick’s refusal to slide, and the Eagles could be in major trouble.

Many people question the Giants secondary, especially after their display against the Cowboys, but they still are only giving up the 186 passing yards per game, 4th best in the league.

The Giants offense, despite a poor showing last week, is averaging 26 points a game. They are pounding defenses to the tune of almost 150 yards a game, and the emergence of Hakeem Nicks should give the Eagles smaller cornerbacks problems.

The Eagles have already beaten the Falcons, the other team standing atop the power rankings of the NFC. Next week, the when Giants come to town, we will learn a lot about this young Eagles team. If they are serious about making a deep playoff run, beating a quality team like the Giants is a good start. A loss will force the Eagles back into the middle of the pack.

It will be gut check time for the Birds this Sunday. Lets see if this team is ready to punch back.

This Eagle’s team, until further notice, is the intimidator in these types of games…The Giants are going down and going down hard!

These night games are great since my Grade School –High School– College friends ( at 74 they ain’t rowdy) can come over and watch BUT getting to sleep at 1 in the morning whether reliving a great game or worse a loss skews the sleep pattern for the next several days

Two in one week is hard on the senior citizen types

Good points. For all the mistakes they made The Giants were just 1 play away from beating the cowboys. The lost by 13. The pick six was a 14 point swing.

They are going to keep Vick off the field by pounding the smaller Eagles defense with their running game. Then they are going to Play action pass the over aggressive Eagle linebackers.

The Eagles must counter by scoring early. No secret. Eli Manning can be rattled when he is forced to throw. The key to the game will be the Eagles Oline. If they give Vick time the Eagles receivers will out run the Giants. Celek has got to step up. He’s going to be open because right now there is no reason to cover him.

I hope this isn’t a letdown game for the Eagles after what they did to the Redskins. Our defense is going to have to step up in a major way this week against the Giants. Their offense has been pretty potent this year. Hakeem Nicks is doing to teams what Plaxico Burress used to to and he was the Eagle killer.

Paulmans Top 10 in the NFC after week #10

#1) Atllanta Falcons (7-2) – Only losses were on the road to the Steelers and Eagles
#2) Eagles (6-3) – With Vick at the Helm and playign like he is, the Offense looks unstoppable
#3) Packers (6-3) – Comign off a bye week, starting to get some injured players back
#4) Saints (6-3) – Coming off a bye week and also getting some injured players back (R Bush)
#5) Giants (6-3) – Were on a roll, but have some ugly losses this season against decent teams
#6) TB Bucs (6-3) – No one thinks their good, they just keep winning, may have some of the best young talent at the skills position that rivals the Eagles (QB Freeman,WR’s Williams,Benn and RB Blount are all under 23 years of age)
#7) Bears (6-3) – I am not sold on J Cutler/Martz offense with this team, but they are winning
#8) Seahawks (5-4) – At home with Hasselback, they are pretty good, on the road they are not..
#9) Rams (4-5) – Play a full 60 minutes and have been in almost every game this Season
#10) Redskins (4-5) – Have McNabb,a Super Bowl Coach in Shanahan, but very little talent

The Top 7 Teams will fight for 5 playoff spots since the NFC West will get 1 spot automatically for whoever wins that weak Division.. The Eagles vs Bears will be a huge one, the loser will be on the outside looking in most likely, the Bucs have a pretty easy schedule down the stretch and will probably end up with 10-11 Wins

Beating the Giants would be a good start? So beating Indy and the Falcons was what…a warm up? Beating the Giants would just be a continuance for this new-look Eagles team on thier road to reclaim what is and has been thiers for the past decade…the NFC, not just our division…the NFC. There have been some regression years true enough but this conference is ours for the taking-back!

Unlike prior years, I’m extremely happy with the wins we have. Last year, I thought the Eagles were very overrated by winning against mediocre teams down the stretch. 9 games into this season, we have solid wins against the Colts and Falcons. We dismantled the Falcons (who are ranked #1 in the NFL power rankings) and I think we beat the Colts by a lot more than the score indicated.

Man, stop overhyping the Giants. Seriously. They have had their share of games where they looked dreadful too. We beat the Colts and Falcons already and now the beating the Giants is a good start? Are you freaking serious? Beating the Giants would just continue the war path that Vick is on with this offense. This game is not a measuring stick for us. It’s a measuring stick for them. The got smacked by the Colts, Titans and Cowboys. They are no dominant team to be any type of measuring stick. They are a solid team that has beat the Panthers, Bears, Texans, Lions, Cowboys and Seattle. That’s MAYBE 1 or 2 good teams. So I don’t want to hear all this talk about the Giants. It’s going to be a good game. I don’t think we are going to blow them out but I’m not giving them all that credit like they are some juggernaut. They are still the Sheli Manning led Giants.

THANK GOD no Steve Smith…. Thats Eli’s most favorite target on 3rd downs…… The birds have to stop the run (period)!!! hand Bradshaw and take him down on the first tackle…….. Jacobs hasn’t been the same Rb but still dangerous on passes to the flats\ or on screen passes…… The eagles need to stay big up front…. And what I mean big up front put Laws at DE on some plays to watch out for the runs on 3rd and 5’s because the Giants love to draw up plays of that calibur…. There receivers are big so watch out for screen passes to Nicks and Manningham…. There going to test our corners for them to make tackles…… (ASANTE) especially! Mcdermott needs to be creative with his play calling but stay basic at the same time….. Simple Base defense/ Man coverage but dont let Eli have time in the pocket…… Eli has been a turnover machine this season….. The mistakes he makes the Birds have to take advantage of it….. I see us winning 38-17….. GO EAGLES

I believe that the giants are overrated. They beat a team in the cowboys that there starting QB went down and kitna did absolutley nothing after that. And then they beat a team in the seahawks who had a guy starting that has never started before. Eli has turn the ball over more then any qb except brett farve. If he turns the ball over alot eagles will score. i think final score…eagles 31 giants 21. Our defense gives up to many points!!!

He is indeed…the truth. Roots…cant touch em.

Having a guy like Harrison really changes things now. I think they were letting him learn the playbook and have him fresh for the strecth run. Guy has low mileage. Love his running style. And mos def jroc…reminds me of Buck…hard charger with the cut back ability. AR is aware of this teams talent like no other. He may see the makings of a Champion.lets stay even keel and think about Giants.

Do they line Hicks up all over the place Birdbrains? Sante or D-Patt on him?

Erock!!! My choice is to put Patterson on Nicks…… His size over Asante is too much….. But he seems to be Eli’s favorite target of choice since Smith’s injury….. I just think that they are going to throw alot of screen passes….. You know Coughlin is going to play alot of safe ball especially against our defense….. Eli blows against our defense when we pressure him….. Maybe with all the hype for the birdz asante may be a better/productive tackler who knows…… I know that there is chemistry now with this team….. ANd it all starts with your Qb #7 go Birdz……… (in players/locker room perspective)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Birdo Beamen’s Playoff Teams: (In Order)

1) Philadelphia Eagles — Offense is unstoppable and the Eagles are undefeated in games Vick starts and finishes. Defense is still a little sporadic but with the emergence of Dimitri, they should be solid going forward.
2) Atlanta Falcons — Great home record lately. Will be real crucial for Philly to get homefield advantage. At 7-2, they would be number one, had they not got whupped by the Eagles and their backup QB.
3) New Orleans Saints — Defending Superbowl Champs. Have suffered some crucial losses but are still contenders.
4) Green Bay Packers — solid team so far. Lost some key players but should still make noise.
5) New York Giants — Solid defense. Excellent pass rush. Excellent offensively through the air. O-line has questions and secondary is atrocious.
6) Tampa Bay Buccaneers — nice young team that I expect to fall off heading into the second half of the season, but for now they are hanging around so they must be ranked.

ATL**Matt Ryan is 18-1 at home since he was drafted. Who’s that one loss against? PHI..that’s right..US, Vick turned the lights out in the Georgia Dome.

How about that Dimitri Patterson? Played Hobbs right outta town IMO Monday night.

Birdo I agree Tampa will not make the playoffs. Best think they will end up somewhere around 8-8, 9-7 at best. Another thing is someone from the West automatically gets a playoff spot. Someone over there will go 8-8 and be in the playoffs with all the other teams having 10+ wins. Barring significant injuries I think they playoffs teams are (in no specific order)

Eagles
Falcons
Saints
Packers
49ers
Giants

One of the good this is that both New Orleans and Atlanta can’t get home field or first round bye so one of them will be traveling wildcard weekend and I hope it’s to a place like green bay or ny or even here in January. Let’s see how them dome teams play on the road, in the cold in the playoffs.

I think we know that Drummer which is why I stated “barring significant injuries”. Aren’t all predictions based on what’s happening now and not what might happen? And you may want to use other teams for your example because the Cowboys were bad anyway, not sure what significant injuries the Vikings have had that makes them so bad and the Packers have had injuries but they’ve been winning in spite of. So what I am saying is that besides an injury to your QB, GOOD teams still find ways to win.
