There’s a lot being said about Michael Vick, Andy Reid and the Eagles. The Birds are in first place after having played ten games and we know all the things that could happen to make this season a positive or a negative.
Les Bowen’s article about the interview which Michael Vick had with Bob Costas of NBC is very strong. The quotes from the quarterback give you a glimpse of what he went through in prison and how far he fell from being an NFL Superstar. Vick tells Costas. “The darkest moments were just not being able to go home every day . . . It’s like you’re trapped. There’s nowhere to go.”
I’ve heard Vick talk about this time in front of audiences and I’ve got to say that he comes across very honest and truthful. He’s admitted his mistakes in front of the nation again and again. I think the way he has been humbled has made him a stronger person.
I would imaging that facing 3rd and ten is as daunting as 18 months in a Federal Penitentiary.
Geoff Moesher of DelawareOnline.com points out that Andy Reid talks about an MRI which showed damage to a different disc near Ellis Hobb’s neck, than the one he hurt a year ago. Did you get that? A different disc in his neck than the one he injured a year ago.
Think about it. You have two injured discs in your neck area. Are you still going to play football? No. It’s why I think Hobbs should retire next season.
John Smallwood made the best argument I’ve heard for paying Michael Vick right now.
The truth of the matter is that the Eagles know far more about Vick and what kind of player he is capable of being than when they made either of their last major quarterback decisions.”
Right now I agree with him that giving big money to those other guys was more of a risk than paying Vick now after what he’s done this year.
John Gonzalez talks about the national hype surrounding Michael Vick. In truth, hype is what all of us do. Hype can work for you and hype can work against you. All this hype will be a burden on the Vick and the Eagles if they don’t win it all. The incredible Washington game and Vick’s story has made this team a media magnet and created incredible hype. This hype is building so high that I think they’re going to be looked upon as a disappointment if they don’t reach the Super Bowl and win it. That’s a lot to ask of such a young football team.
Kevin Callahan of CourierPostonline.com talks about the Eagles defense and the key role which they played in the team’s victory on Sunday night. He talks about the five turnovers which the Birds defense forced.
I couldn’t agree with him more. Michael Vick is still getting all the hype but his teammates carried him to the victory over the Giants and the defense was a major part of it. If your defense forces five turnovers, you’re going to win 9 out of 10 games.
this is what i told pman
i havent seen this here in a long time a national superstar
i like it
i like our team being on sportscenter every morning i dont have to watch comcastsportsnet lol
A great story indeed for Vick, the Eagles and the NFL is going to milk this for all it is..
A debacle season in Dallas, Farve playing like he’s 41 in Minnesota, & Peyton Manning starting to age and playing on a average Colt team has left a considerable vacumn for the NFL/Media to fill..
Whoever does not love this Vick resurgance and story is not a football fan or interested in human interest stories, but I do feel the more coverage, the more issues and distractions that come with it..
I ratther the Eagles fly under the Radar, but that’s out the window now, for Vick and the entire team are playing so well.. All Eagle Fans have seen who this team has progressed and bonded over this season, now let’s see how they handle success and expectations on the National Stage for Vick and his actions, play and every comment will now be dissected a 1000 ways by the National Media..
The Price Of Success.. Hopefully Coach AR will do his usual good job on maintaining an environment of hard work, team committment and one week at a time mantra which has served the Eagles well over the years..
I don’t know about you guys but the Cowboys still concern me. They may be finished in terms of making the playoffs but I hate the way they match up against us and we still have to play them two more times. Neither game is a gimme.
I have the same feeling btc….my hope is that choker Romo is back and they fall apart like old times
Hey G, not to be priggish but technically Hobbs currently has one injured disc since the first one was removed last year. He’s definitely done, in fact, he shouldn’t have come back after the first disc injury. After they remove the second disc he’ll have lost 25 degrees of rotation in both directions.
Now I know we still have some Kolb lovers (nothing wrong with that) — but what suprises me is that ALL the McNabb lovers are gone! Everyone that said trading McNabb was a mistake is suddenly MIA. Hmmmmm…..
Birdo, I said trading McNabb was a mistake because of KEVIN KOLB not Vick. That’s a huge difference. And I would say the same thing again if I had to choose between McNabb on the eagles and Kolb on the Eagles I’d take McNabb easily.
McNabb trade was the best thing the Eagle have done in recent years, In my opinion.
It was simply time for him and all the drama that went along with him,to leave town and start anew..
I think the move energized Coach AR and MM to get back into scheming and becoming more creative with the weapons they have. I also think the GM H Roseman has added energy, aggresiveness to the entire FO that was lacking under Heckert who was simply a yes man to Coach AR..Let Cacoh AR concetrate on his team, his coachign staff and getting game plans together and let GM Howie and his staff of Scouts worry about the player recruitment, roster management, drafting, contracts, etc, etc
Brian Westbrook was injured last year by the same type of tackle at Washington. Brian was down when this guy flew in parallel to the ground and hit Westbrook directly to the head with his helmet. Anybody remember who knocked him out? It might have been legal but I thought it was dirty playing and still do. All such hits should be banned. I really do enjoy seeing the chat on this site. There are a bunch of well informed smart football sense people contributing all the time (Me excepted LOL)
NCDave- London Fletcher is the culprit.
BTC, Green, my friends fear not the girls from Dallas. Our new defensive structure matchs up with them just fine. We can stop their run, we can rush the QB and flush him into mistakes, and we can cover their WR’s with figger. Now can they contain McCoy, Harrison, and Schmidt, while at the same time d-ingup DJax and Mac, while at the same time containing Vick, while at the sa……… okay you see where I am going.
I don’t take the C-boys for granted they are a truely talented team, with a new attitude, but if we bring the goods to the game with a desire to win, it could really be like that 2009 blow out. I don’t expect that kind of win but I can see something at least.
So hold your ground boys, when your players have done all they can do and laid it on the line, the only thing left is the good karma, will, and fire of the fans. We are the most fierst, knowledgable, and loyal fans in the NFL, its our time, don’t fear anyone.
So there youhave it, anybody with me in showing no fear to any team onour schedule no matter what heppens until the season is over? Knock us down but get back up, it is our time. Any believers?
As always LONG LIVE THE EAGLES
mcnabb threw for 370 and a pair of td’s in his last performance vs the titans lmao
kolb threw for 0 yards this past sunday i know
but what was kolb’s last game tennesse
what was kolb rating a 48
this is y we said it was a mistake
when we brought vick in last yr i wanted vick to start last yr so make ur stupid claims birdo just know like scorp said thie was soley based on kolb and we were right on with that 1 anyway
Yeah the D played great Sunday night but the dropped TD catches by Avant and Jackson were not Vick’s fault
They catch those and the game is out of sight are coming and raves are Vick’s way again
Birdobeamen
I am not MIA. Yes I believed (and still do) that trading McNabb was a mistake. If you remember (try hard, I was only a few months ago) the Eagles traded McNabb under the premise that Kolb would be anointed as the starting QB without even competing for the job. Kolb would be the starter even though the “experts” – (McNabb haters) predicted a losing season with him “but good for Kolb’s development” ( sacrficing of the whole year, the team and all the Eagle fans for the “on the job training” of one player ) Michael Vick was not even considered in the equation. (Believe it or not) Vick was just a project developed to trade for a future draft pick!
Yes we’re all happy about the way things turned out. But please (McNabb haters) don’t take credit for it. You already had Vick packaged and on the skids too.
