Michael Vick Delivers Another MVP Performance

We’re getting used to outstanding production from Michael Vick and he didn’t disappoint last night.  Vick and the offense found a way to win again this week and the defense made enough plays to win, and they did it after losing momentum and falling behind.

He played MVP football again, but I’m more getting even more concerned about the numbers of hits he’s taking.

What other superlatives can be used to describe the play of Vick?  He should start wearing the Superman jersey underneath his uniform in case he has to leave the game for a moment or two to save peoples lives buy carrying a plane or automobile to safety.

Seriously Vick does things that only he can do, but he’s taking far too many hits and I don’t think he can stay healthy if he continues running the ball so much.  I would like to see him be more selective about trying to make something out of bad plays.

Vick was the ultimately leader last night.  With the game on the line, Vick got in the faces of his teammates and demanded that they step up their game while he led the way.

‘It was very satisfying”, Vick told reporters following the game. “First thing I just have to give glory to God for giving us the opportunity to come out here and play this game and win. Just putting the drives together after going down four points, we just did a great job in battling back. I told the guys ‘Now’s the time to put it all together and come out and make the plays I know we can make. Let’s be efficient, let’s be smart and win this football game’ and they did.”

The Birds fell behind 24-20 in the third quarter as the defense emulated the awful game they played against the Bears by allowing the Texans to score 14 points.  Houston receivers were getting open with ease and Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson were having little trouble moving the ball up and down the field against the Birds.

Vick went into the phone booth and took over.

“I loved his energy in the second half”, the head coach Andy Reid said afterward. “He was firing up [players on] both sides of the ball. He brought a lot to the table.”

His numbers were outstanding.  He completed 22-33 passes for 302 yards for two touchdowns and one interception.  In addition to all that damage in the passing game, Vick tucked the ball under his arm and ran 10 times for another 48 yards.

His passer rating for the game was only 103.3, which is not as high as it was earlier in the year, but I think we can live with it.

Still to be fair, Vick could have easily thrown another interception or two, plus he needs to get in the habit of tucking the ball away. A ball-hawking team like the Bears will force Vick to fumble.  So despite playing great football, Vick has room for improvement.

He forced a couple of throws to Celek across the middle which could have been picked.  He let one go outside which could have been taken to the house for a pick-six.

I also have to say the Vick had two touchdown passes dropped during the game.  One was dropped by Celek and the other by Jason Avant.  That’s five touchdown passes in the last few games, which is amazing when you think of the numbers Vick has for the season.

Vick was beaten up worse against the Texans than any other game this year.  He spent time on the stationary bike when the Eagles defense was on the field, so his thigh wouldn’t tighten up.  The quarterback was kicked in the thigh or he got a knee in the thigh muscle.

He also got a knee in the head from Texans tackle Amobi Okoye.  He was wise enough to fall forward when he was surrounded by the Houston defense, but Vick can’t resist playing hero on each play.

Thiesman said that Vick was not a MVP. Somebody smack him before he leaves PHilly.

One Espn analist did not even have him in the top 5. (hasselback)

Are they watching the same games?

Mike Vick is clearly the MVP of this league right now (all fav-team bias aside). The guy has only lost one game. That says it all. He made Philly forget all about Kevin Kolb. We were supposed to be 8-8 in the books in the beginning of the season with Kevin at the helm. We’re now capable of getting the #1 seed in NFC if we keep playing great football. Especially, with Asante coming back next week hopefully. Teams FEAR Michael Vick, whereas they used to only fear Desean Jackson. Mike is a leader unquestionably, plus the team rallies off of him. There is no doubt he is the MVP. He makes everyone better and thats what an MVP is all about. Brady and Rivers are throwing INT’s and both teams have lost more games this season that the Eagles have with Vick. Not to mention, Mike Vick is STILL the highest rated QB in the NFL.

Somehow, I expect Vick-haters like VinnietheLoser and JakeDog to hate on the man. They will still hate on Mike even if we win the Super Bowl this year. Yup, those are real fans right there (Sarcastic)

Vick has to quit running as much and some of it is caused because he is not seeing some open receivers and also not throwing the quick 3 step drop passes in the middle of the field
I don’t think those quick drops are ever in the game plan

@ bsm….those guys are in the “old boys network” of qb’s. Its not racist (i dont like you cause your black), but it is a prejudice (your ok, but you just cant be better than our guy!). If you have a top five list and Vick is not on it right now, then you just have something personally wrong. Dilfer does the same crap, but he praises Overlord Farve to high hell, with his 10 td’s and 17 ints. Same way they talk about the best “Young” Qbs and all you hear is Ryan, Flacco, Bradford….but nobody talks about Josh Freeman! He has much less weapons than Ryan and Flacco, and about the same as Bradford, and has a much better record, and almost the same numbers. Im not some race nut, but some people just wont ever except a black Qb. I have Peyton in my fantasy league, he’s playing like crap now that he doesnt have “All World” weapons he had his entire career! Brady to me has always been better than Manning! if i had my top five it would be Brady, Rivers, Vick, Brees, Rodgers

I agree he has to lessen the number of hits he takes, but looks at this year relative to Vick’s previous years.
He ran the ball constantly through college and made the occiasional throw. Remember the national championship game against Miami or Flofida State, it was Vick running vs the 11 men on defense and he almost won.
He goes to Atlanta and they try to have him throw more, but he drops back to see if Alge Crumpler is open, if not he runs. He took hits constsantly at the NFL level and kept on playing. This guy is small and incredibly tough.
I think Vick was used to taking 12-25 big hits a game. The 10 hits he takes now with the Eagles may not seem like a lot to him. He now isn’t taking hits in the open field. I think he is too willing to hang in the pocket and take a big hit to let his reciever get open. I’de like to lessen some of those hits. This guy is a fighter when he’s on the run behind the line of scrimmage and will do anything to get positve yards. He goes into surival mode and nobody can expect that part of his game to change. His style of play makes everyone rally around him because he puts it all on the line. This offense moves the sticks like no other offense I’ve ever seen.

Look folks. Our offense, for the first time snce I’ve been an Eagles fan — is UNSTOPPABLE. We can easily put up 20 plus pts every game — our defense though, may be the cause of our demise.

DizzyJ, Pats are 8-2, we don’t have more wins than them this season. As for the race issue, it is not even worth discussing. Some people don’t see the world for what it is and some people do. Its a dead issue that we will never solve her eon a blog. I agree, Josh Freeman needs to start getting some respect, i thought the Bucs have been doing this with smoke and mirrors but they can actually play some football. I think they will hit a bump or two and finish a few games over 500 but i don’t see them getting to the playoffs.

The man is a leader, and this team follows his lead. He does not panic when the team finds itself down, he rallies the offense and makes plays. It is refreshing to see a player lead by example, not talk about being a leader in a postgame press conference. He has my vote for MVP.

KTDawk, Mike Vick hasn’t played the whole season as we know. But if he did, he might have more TD’s than Brady and Rivers today. But while he has been playing, he has only lost 1 game. This city is the City of Vick now. No player in the history of the league has fallen to rock bottom farther than Mike Vick. And with that being said, no player has risen so high after falling so far before, ever. Listen, Mike Vick is the baddest man in the game today! He is doing it! Teams don’t necessarily fear Brady or Rivers because they are 1 dimensional QB. But you better believe they fear Mike Vick. Through all the stereotyping from his past, to him being a black QB, to him being a running QB, He is proving everyone wrong! Mike Vick, MVP.

What Vick is doing is amazing, but MVP talks always start with stats and right now his stats don’t compare to the others, because he hasn’t played as many games. It is the same for Freeman. They are both the MVPs of their teams by far, and are having great seasons, but they are not statistically as strong as Brady or Rivers who would be my choice right now. And Manning is struggling, but so would any QB who is on 2nd string RB, TE and WR besides Wayne. As the season plays out the stats will level out and I think that Vick will get some consideration as well especially considering his rushing totals. I really don’t think that this has anything to do with race although I could see people hesitating because of his past crimes which is not right.

December 3, 2010 9:42 am

diz, I am with ya on this one. I don’t think you pick MVP based solely on stats, if so, that should call it the Stat-King award. He needs to finish the season strong (and healthy), and the team needs to keep winning. No disrespect to any of the other candidates, but if you followed this team in past years, and watch them now, there is definately a difference in offensive leadership. We still haven’t replaced BDawks leadership on the defensive side, so our ultimate success may depend less on Vick and more on the defenses ability to stop the opponent (especially in the redzone). I try not to get too over-hyped, but you cannot really debate that Vick diserves to be in the MVP conversation.

That 3rd quarter was enough to have a normal fan “go Dizzy”. The defensive penalties always led to 1st downs. 3rd and 17 and we let them convert?? D Patterson should be getting over his motion sickness the way he was spinning around. Could they really have been suprised that they would try and get the ball to Johnson?? We NEED Assante to be back next week, and all of the Dbacks need to play better against the tall and physical Dallas recievers.

Shadey is really becoming a great back. He is clutch and doing the things that great backs do in this league. He did miss a block that almost got Vick killed, but overall he is a stud.

Who was suprised by the 1st pass of the game being a big gainer to DJax..nobody except the Texans. Big Red was making a statement and getting his speedy star into the game right away.

Shaub is a good qb, but the crying about a touch to the head was too much. Did anyone notice earlier in the game when it looked like a facemask, or at the least helmet contact to Vick, and NO CALL?? The Theisman or Millen didn’t even mention it. It was definately more than the hit of T Cole against Manning earlier in the year. The ref’s sucked again in general.

Speaking of refs, a defensive player cannot breathe anywhere near a qb’s head, and he also cannot come close to hitting him low….where the f do they expect them to hit them?? I say make qb’s wear pink helmets, socks and pants to show where they are not allowed to be touched. The NFL has gone WAY overboard in this qb protection business.

I was disappointed that we were not able to turn the T Laws interception into 7.

I am sure that drummer can tell me, but what was the run / pass ratio? We started out with pass, pass, pass and I was looking for more balance. Just because the Texans have the worst D-backs in the league doesn’t mean that we should try and establish our running game to open up the deeper passes.

Liking the extened layoff now that we have the win under our belts. 8-4, first in the dvision. I think Big Red will treat this like a bye week and really come out strong against the Cowgirls. We have a real leader at QB, it is obvious that these gusy follow and respond to him. They don’t panic, they attack and they make plays when they need them. I want to see our protection do a better job on offense and our defense make more stops, especially in the redzone. GO BIRDS!!!

Well heres your time fellas…… Can the eagles drop four straight……… I know yall are hoping and praying for the downfall!!!!!

Besides all that I’m happy…. Win is win in my book……. Celek came in clutch when we needed him…. Maybe a big confidence booster the rest of the season….. Game ball goes to him…..

Vick is definitely in the conversation for League MVP,
but there’s 4 more games to be played so no one needs to be concerned about it now..let’s keep winning and the post-season awards,pro-bowls,etc,etc, will take care of themselves…
Right Now as far as leauge MVP you would have to include M Vick,T Brady,P Rivers and maybe
A Rodgers, the Falcons M Ryan and even the Jets M Sanchez based on their teams success
With 4-5 games left and lots of key divisional match-ups, these players will all have a chance to
seperate themselves and elevate their games and teams even further
But Anyone who states that Vick is not even in the running doesn’t know football very well

i dont care who wins mvp
i dont care who accepts mike vick
all that matters is the guys in that locker room think he’s the mvp
and that the team accpets him
thats all that matters
he is not the most easy guy to like and i can understand that so im passed it
so try to ignore some of these silly expert comments because when it comes down to it we r gonna have to play the games anyway

i’d just like to say that i learned alot about mr vick and this eagles team yesterday
i know texans d was trash but who cares when they went up 24-20 we could have easily lowered our heads and play like the b’s that andy called us last week
but no even when they scored they showed clips of vick on the sideline and tho he was sick he threw the pick u could just see he knew we were goona score
hey i support vick alot but this was something i needed to see
a lil adversity and could we come back from it and to do it with 2 td drives
i truly would like to salute every 1 from the coaching staff to the o line to shady mccoy and even the d for a heck of a 4th qtr
very good friday for me today

seems like the guys truly pull for 1 another
from coaching staff down
and i think when our 2 qb’s still help each other and get along after everything that has happened the rest of the guys have no choice but to be team guys
im not saying we r gonna win anything but this team is starting to remind me of the phitans

So, teams can face mask and intentionally hit Vick after the ball is out with a penalty being called, but Brady, Manning, and Brees gets grazed lightly …Laundry is all over the field.

Players outright state they are looking to injure Vick and try to rough him up every game and the league along with the refs say nothing, as if they want him hurt or something.

Our players need to put it out there that if Vick is continually being hit late, they wil employ the same tactics towards their quarterback. Let’s use fire with fire.

JROC, what up homie! Greenfan I hear you. JRoc I hear you. See, the patriots have been good this past decade and we know what Brady can do and he does it every season. Same for Philip Rivers, this is nothing different than we are used to seeing from Philip Rivers. I mean, but they do have 5 losses! C’mon now! Mike Vick was locked up for 2 years! He was taken away from the game of football only to come back 10 times better than he was! This Eagles team is the best we’ve maybe ever seen them. That alone should get him the MVP, especially if we finish strong. Its crazy to see fellow Eagle fans say Phil Rivers or Tom Brady deserve it more. Stand behind our Quarterback, we’re supposed to. Its our duty and loyalty to the team and the Quarterback. Because you best belive in San Diego and New England, they are supporting their QB’s in the MVP discussion. Come on ya’ll! I agree PW,
This team appears tighter and has a genuine respect and likeness for each other..
A great blend of leadership (from Vick,Mickell,Samuel,Bradley) with a mixture of young stars in
D-Jax/Maclin,McCoy and then the infusion of young, talented rookies,1st year starters who are chomping at the bit to make names for themselves (Schmitt,Dixon,D Patterson,Fokou,Allen,Sims)
I have to admit, Coach AR may be having his best all-around season in Coaching this team..
It appears he is having fun, has more energy and is into it in all 3 phases of the team than in years
past…I think the players and other coaches feed off of that to…

It is still baffling to me how people put Rivers in the MVP discussion with the record his team has?…They may be a .500 team heading into the playoffs, no MVP should come from a .500, just my opinion…Yes Rivers makes an impact on his team, but they are still .500 team…I’d give it to Tom Brady, possibly even Mark Sanchez before I gave the MVP to Rivers…

Interesting stat

Of the Top Ten rated QBs in the NFL Vick and Big Ben are tied for Sacks per Attempt % both at 11.6 and what would it be if he didn’t run like he does ?

That was supposed to be Vick’s big advantage because of his running ability
So the pounding he takes isn’t just because he is running the ball more than other QBs

What does that say about the Eagles O line or is it because he doesn’t have the 3 step drop quick pass

Vick’s stats dont compare to others? LOL….did you really compare Freeman to Vick? LMAO – you may want to re look at Vick’s stats…15 TD passes 6 Rushing TD’s…in what 7 complete games? that is ridicolous, Brady has a total of 24 TD’s on the season (11 games)…Rivers has 23 TD’s (11 games) on the season…

I’m only arguing your point of when you said that Vick’s stats aren’t as strong as the above mentioned…As far as total passing yards, I agree with you..which makes total sense considering they have 4 games more than Vick…But other than passing yards, I dont think theres really any truth behind you statement.

funny thing is he’s not breaking the long run
but instead of us losing 7 to 10 yards on a sack he is making it a 7 to 10 yard gain which keeps drives alives
i cant count how many times he did this this season
of course he will take a bad sack here or there or fumble once in a while but for the amount of bad plays he turns into successful or just positive yardage who cares

I know that I sound like a broken record, but the same problem plagues us. After the first 15 scripted plays, Reid goes into a passing frenzy. Regardless of how much pressure the pass rush puts on Vick, Reid continues to dial up pass after pass. He’s a passaholic.

People then begin to say Vick is running too much or he’s missing open receivers. The man is running for his life and he’s getting pounded.

Play-calling remains our No. 1 issue. We pass the ball more than any team in the league. That philosophy kept McNabb injured and will do the same to Vick, Kolb or anyone else who Reid employs as his QB.

Reid made it easy for Kolb against Atlanta, running the ball 54% of the time, but then reverted to his old ways in the Titans game.

I hate repeating myself, but I hate seeing the same old losing formula even more. Sure, we’ll win some games, but as we approach the playoffs and face the better teams, we will surely lose, either the game, our QB, or both.

Repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results is just insane.

Hey JROC 757

It is sacks per attempt NOT total sacks and as I mentioned it would be much higher if he didn’t run like he does

Philly Willy –a sack here and there —he is tied for first per attempt among the top 10 and would have more if not for his runs so either the O line really sucks or he holds the ball too long or a combo of both

That is one reason he is taking the pounding he does –like I have been posting because of his height he has to take the deep drop or roll out –the quick hitter is almost non existent

I’ll say it again, McNabb and Westbrook won in spite of Reid.

Now, it’s Vick and McCoy winning in spite of Reid.

How many picks did we use to shore up our defense? And how’s that working out for us?

Nate Allen has been getting abused, literally. He spends more time on the ground than he does standing.

And Graham, is he still playing?
