Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics shoved a knife into the backs of the Philadelphia 76ers in front their fans, last night. It wasn’t a literal knife that did the damage, but a layup by Garnett over 76ers point guard Jrue Holiday.
The Celtics ran a nice pick and go which forced the switch which they wanted. The 6’4″ Holiday had no chance after Boston point guard Rajon Rondo threw the ball inside to the 7′ foot Garnett and he put it in the basket.
It was another painful loss for the Sixers and all head coach Doug Collins could do was shake was talk about how he felt sorry for his basketball team. This team doesn’t know how to finish. Somebody should have come over and helped on Garnett to at least send him to the free throw line or force him to pass it outside to one of their three point shooters.
You can’t allow a layup to beat you. A jump shot I can understand, but you can’t allow an easy layup on a simple pick and go to beat you so easily.
Somebody has to come over and tackle Garnett, if that’s what it takes. Losers find ways to lose and winners find ways to win. I saw the Los Angeles Clippers lose to the Lakers on a layup by Derrick Fisher. How do you let a guy as small as Fisher drive to the hoop and make a layup with the clock running out?
I say again, losers find ways to lose and the Sixers have to find a way not to be losers.
It’s a shame but in the long run, they’ll wind up with a better draft pick.
Up until the layup, everything had been working out so well for the Sixers with 6.6 seconds left to play. Two times in a row Andre Iguodala had answered the call with one-on-one scores. He dropped in a short jump hook shot before the final Celtics score.
Eldon Brand had a solid game with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Jodie Meeks was hot from long distance as he was 4-for-4 outside the three point line, while leading the Sixers in scoring with 19 points. Lous Williams and Thaddeus Young both contributed 16 points.
The Sixers did everything but get the W.
