NFL Week 14 Game Predictions

There are four regular season games left in the 2010-11 season, so each game will have an effect on which teams will go to the playoffs and which teams will be going home.  Most of the playoff spots are undecided, so teams will be putting all their chips on the table.

I like the Browns over the Bills because of their physical and punishing ground attack led by Peyton Hillis.  These guys will beat up Buffalo.  Browns 23-13

This will be a close game, but I’ve got to go with a Pittsburgh team that knows how to win over a Bengals team which knows how to lose.  It won’t be easy.    Steelers 27-24

The Raiders and the Jaguars will be battling for the playoff lives.  Maurice Jones-Drew and David Garrard will be too much for the one-dimensional Raiders.  Jaguars 24-17

The Washington Redskins look like they have quit while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing for a playoff spot.  The Bucs will find a way to win this one.  Bucs 21-17

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers passing game can’t be stopped by the Lions.  The Packers will win this one going away.  Packers 31-17

Atlanta has an easy one this week against the pathetic Carolina Panthers.  I don’t think the Panthers could win the game if they were the only team on the field.  Falcons 34-10

I think Brett Favre will find a way to start but I don’t think he will be able to finish the game.  The Vikings season is over and Favre’s career is all but over for now.  Giants 27-13

The Saints are starting to hit their stride while the Rams try to make the playoffs.  This one will be a setback for St. Louis, but they’ll put up a fight.  Saints 35-24

This will be San Francisco’s ground game versus Seattle’s passing game.  I like the Seahawks chances as the teams fight for the playoffs.  Seahawks 20-13

I don’t see any way that Matt Cassel plays, but the Chiefs running game will help them dominate the clock.  Still I see the Chargers keeping their playoff hopes alive and coming out on top.  Chargers 27-20

Both the Broncos and the Cardinals are terrible, but I think Denver will benefit from playing for a new coach.  They also have a better offense.  Broncos 26-13

The Jets have too much for the Dolphins.  They’ll get their confidence back after that butt-whooping they got from the Patriots.  Jets 31-14

New England and Chicago will have a very good game as the two teams go into the fourth quarter with the game in doubt, but Tom Brady and the Pats come through again.  Patriots 27-20

The Eagles will show up ready to play but the Cowboys will make a game of it.  Michael Vick and company will be too much for Dallas in a high-scoring contest.  Eagles 38-28

The Baltimore Ravens will be eager to recapture their winning ways by beating up on a mediocre Texans squad.  Baltimore is the superior team and it won’t be close.  Ravens 27-13

Its not official but could this be bad luck for the Eagles? The roof of the Metrodome has collapsed. Is the game rescheduled? Does this mean the Giants have a bye this week and 2 weeks of rest for the Eagles to be fresh and healthy.

Minnesota has been getting pounded this winter season so far…
I think the moved the Game to Monday night, but with a collapsing roof, they probably will have to move to a safer stadium and possibly back to NY/Medowlands if they can even Fly out of the Airport today which is doubtful..

Paulman’s NFL Picks for Week #14 (Overall Record is 115-64)

#1) Thursday’s game Colts over Texans in a must win for Colts, no surprise
#2) Steelers over Bengals, Bengals may not win another game this season
#3) Packers over the Lions in a closer game than many may think
#4) Redskins over TB Bucs- I liked the Bucs originally, but now have 3-4 good starters injured. Redskins with the Haynesworth fiasco behind them, the return of RB Torrain may actually play pretty well today
#5) Falcons over the Panthers – Ryan,Turner,R WHite and T Gonzales all with big games, blowout
#6) Browns over the BIlls – Cleveland playing hard and well for Coach Mangini, who is making it more and more difficult for Holmgrem to get rid of..
#7) Jaguars over the Radiers – QB Garrad,RB MJ Drew are playing as well as anyone and with confidence as the Jags look to stay in 1st place in the AFC South
#8) 49ers over Seahawks – QB A SMith returns, the Rushing attack of the Westbrook & 49ers will wear down the Seahawk Defense as the 49ers squeak out a win
#9) Saints over the Rams – QB Brees and Saint Offense hitting on all cylandirs as they make their playoff push and stay within strinking distance to the Falcons
#10) Jets over Dolphins – in a low-scoring ugly type of game, curious to see how JEts bounce back
after the embarrasing loss to the Patriots..Dolphins playing with 3-4 key players out.
#11) Broncos over the Cardinals- Both teams in a mess but I like Broncos QB Orton and his Receivers over the Cardinals Seconday, Cardinals starting QB J Skelton from Fordham in his first NFL Start..
#12) Chargers over CHiefs – No QB Casell for Chiefs today, who will try to run,run run but th eChargers play a good game after laying an egg las week in loss to th Raiders, too little, too late
#13) Bears over Pats – Something tells me that Pats are due for a let down, they have 4-5 players injured and LB Spikes suspended for a game had a short practice week and are on the road.If Bears can establish a running game & short passing attack to RB Forte and protect the ball, I think they can pull off the upset ..
#14) Giants over Vikings – Giants are getting healthy and have gone back doing what they do best, run the ball with Bradshaw & Jacobs and let ELi manage the game and utilizie play-action. With the return of WR’s Nicks & Smith and O/L Diehl& O’Hara and FB Hedgocock, this team is poised for the
stretch run with it’s healthiest group of Starting players than it’s had all season long…
#15) Texans over Ravens – not a good match-up for the Ravens and coming up a tough physical game vs the Steelers last week, Texans home and rested after a last Thursday’s loss in Philly
I think Texans put up some big plays and points on the Ravens whose pass defense is not that good

#16) Cowboys over Eagles 36-23 – This is the Cowboys Super Bowl and would help cement Interim Coach J Garrets position to get the HC job with a Victory over the rival Eagles.
Cowboys get some injured players back on D in time to slow down the Eagles Offense,
No Samuel and No W Justice will test the Eagles and the Cowboys are starting to run the Ball effectively behind F Jones/ T Choice, Kinta has played very well and has played within himself making the smart throws and staying away from turnovers, If the Eagles can’t get +2 in Turnovers and soem sacks, I don’t see how this Eagle D will stop the the Cowboys from scoring TD’s..meanwhile on Offense, no RT Justice will cause protection issues and the Eagles must sustain drives, and imporve TD Efficiency in the Red-Zone nad not settle for 3’s…
Special Teams will be huge and D-Jax needs to get untracked in both the passing game and the return game if Eagles are to have a shot

I’ve asked this before, but didn’t see a response. Does anyone have an assessment on Brandon Graham’s season thus far? Because I’ve been charting plays, I haven’t paid much attention to the defense.

Drummer.Graham has been a major disssapointment this year. They moved up in the draft to take him and quite frankly he looks to small.H e doesnt stop the run and he doesnt get any pressure on the qb. They say it takes a year for a DL to develop. Lets get real for a minute. The Eagles track record with drafting DL is only slightly better than it was in drafting WR until recently. Having Parker rested and back in the lineup may be more important than having Asante back. Parker is ALWAYS a beast at the beginning of the year for the first 5 games. Hopefully him being out for a month he is fresh and wreaks havoc. No time to throw is more important that Samuel trying to cover for 5 seconds.

Good Question Drummer,

I would Grade his Rookie Season as a Solid C +
He obviously is going thru the growing, maturing stages as all Rookies do as leqarns what it takes to become a Professional NFL player. He will get stronger, learn to use his hands better and learn to use his leverage more to be more effective as a pass rusher and all around DE
I do think the team has been a little disappointed in his conditioning for he appears to tire out very quickly and does not seem capable of being a everydown lineman stamina wise at this stage of his development..I think he is further advanced than when T Cole was a Rookie by far, and I think the Eagles are hoping he delvelops along those lines though a lot of hard work and having some good mentors in Cole & Parker to learn from, is he ready to committ and work hard to be better, time will tell and I think if you see him stay at NovaCAre in the off-season, you will seen an improved and hungrier Graham in 2011, If he disappears and goes back home for the off-season, than I thinnk we we’ve seen this years is what he’ll be .. basically a rotational DE who plays part time which would be a big disappointment. I think like most observors thought that Graham would be best suited for a 3-4 type of Defense like the Patriots/Jets/Steelers employ, where he would be movinh, standing up and rushing the QB as opposed to a conventional down 4 defensive lineman.. I’ve said right after the Draft that when the Eagles decided on trade to move up in the trade and trade a couple of 3rd Rd picks to do so, that they needed to get an impact player right away and DE B Graham is not that type of impact player, he will be a good NFL player, but not at a Pro-Bowl level anytime soon.
I didn’t like the move up and thought they traded away a little too much to do so, but if I were to do the same thing, I would have grabbed Safety E Thomas who plays for Seattle and is having a very solid Rookie Season but is a playmaker and has a great upside.
There were also Interior Lineman (Guard/Center) likeM Iupati, Maurkice Poncey that were rated the top at their Positions (where Eagles had a need also) and these palyers have stepped in during their Rookie Seasons and have started and appear wll on their way to having Pro-Bowl type of careers ahead of them.
This trade bascially effected the remainder of the Draft for the EAgles who still did a lot of wheeling and Dealing and ended up with 13 picks overall with most of them from the 4th Round on..
Before this Trade-Up for Graham, The Eagles had 7 picks out of the top 140 players which I thought they should have taken advantage of instead of wheeling and trading away a 2nd Rd picks to the Cowboys (Who then picked ILB S Lee) and then trading down out of the 3rd and 4th to accumulate for more later 4th and 5th Rd selections.. In the end, the Eagles drafting by Volume and hope some of these choices can improve, They did get good value/picks with N Allen, R Cooper, M Kafka and K Coleman, I think they missed on Graham, Teo and Sapp and it’s still too early to tell about players like Lindley,Harbor,Clayton,Cheney who have shown some good potential

Here was original Draft Listings for the Eagles before all these Draft day trade up and trade downs
(8 players out of the top #137 Selections)

1st Rd # 24
2nd Rd # 37
2nd Rd # 55
3rd Rd # 70
3rd Rd # 87
4th Rd # 105
4th Rd # 121
5th Rd # 137
6th Rd # 200
7th Rd # 243 (could not be traded-sompensatory pick)
7th Rd # 244 (could not be traded-compensatory pick)

Instead, they ended up with the following after all the Draft Day Trades in which they ended up with
4 Selections of th top # 105 instead of the 6 Selections before all these deals were made
1st Rd #13 Overall (B Graham)
2nd Rd # 37 (S Nate Allen-sound solid pick and player)
3rd Rd # 86 (DE Teo Neisham-who many project as reach and another C Gocong which has no real no postion toplay at the NFL Level–too smal to play down, and no coverage skills to play LB)
4th Rd # 105 (CB T Lindley- has size, strength and long arm span, could be a good one next year)
4th Rd # 121 (LB K Clayton- was projected as 5th Rd Selection, good speed, not very strong at the point of attack, most likely a Special Teams and situational player in pass coverage no Defense)
4th Rd # 122 (QB M Kafka- was prjected anywhere from 5th to 6t Round and has potential to be a quality back-up in the NFL who has a strong arm, good size and played in a Pro-Style offense in college)
4th Rd # 125 (TE C Harbor – was projected as a 5th Rounder, ood speed but limited blocking experience and at 6-2″, 245lbs, not a Red-Zone/Short Yardage type of blocking TE the team needs)
5th Rd # 134 (OLB/DE R Sapp – was projected to be a 2nd/3rd Round Selection but that tweener size of his,is limited as playing a down linemen in the NFL, G -Man called it as it is after the 3rd Day of Rookie practice that in no way could R Sapp play OLB at the NFL level for he had no pass-coverage skills and was a fish of of water in passing coverages..
5th Rd # 159 (WR R Cooper – great size and speed with gritty determination, was the real surprise of the entire draft and Summer Camp for the Eagles, I wish they would throw to him more often and utilize his size more ,when in the Red-Zone , take D-Jax out and use Cooper and his size to get in the end-zone ..)
6th Rd # 200 (RB C Scott- seemed like a good pick-up at the time, once they moved him to FB, his Eagle career was doomed, would have liked him to get a chance running the ball with the 2nd team in Pre-season but never happened and was eventually traded to Arizona for CB/Return man J Calvin which was a great move by GM Roseman)
7th Rd # 222 (ILB J Cheney – another undersized LB who runs well and tackles well, a special teamer who will be Bradley’s back-up in 2011 as O Gaither is released after the Season.)
7th Rd # 243 (DT J Owens – a high energy player s who made the practice squad and still has the potential to make the NFL in 2011 with the Eagles or another team..
7th Rd #244 (S- K Coleman – probably the Eagles best value of the draft, not the biggest player, but a winner, a nose for the ball who plays bigger than he is, I see him and Allen as the Safety Tandem for the Eagles for 2011 and the next 6-8 years

I know it was Roseman’s 1st Draft as a GM and he did do a good job of obtaining some picks back after ther Graham move, but I would have rather he and the team take the best player availalbe that fills a need and build thru quality picks instaed of thru a quantity of picks and of course , every draft is a crap shoot filled with surpises, disappointments, busts and daimond in the roughs…But stop all this moving around to get by Trading Picks from the upper part of the Draft (Top 3 Rounds)
to accumulate more selections in the 4th/5th/6th7th Rounds

Too harsh on Graham. DE rookies rarely make a huge impact, its a way big step up in opposition for them. He’ll be fine next year. Be happy you are getting anything at all from him now. If nothing else he makes J Parker a better player by taking some pressure off him to play every down. The attempt to make him play inside just sapped his energy and got him ground down, took him a bit to rebound off of that experiment. Hit the rookie wall too, but many young guys do, he will improve.

I definitely think Graham will be a solid Pro Anderson,
But I don’t think he’s a game changer or a potential Pro Bowler and just not worth trading away 2
3rd Round picks to move up 11 spots and to take him..

You were close on that Eagles-Cowboys prediction, G. About a touchdown off for the birds and one point away for the girls.
