No Asante and no Justice

The Philadelphia Eagles’ job against the Dallas Cowboys just got a lot tougher. The Eagles have announced that Asante Samuel and Winston Justice will not be making the trip to Dallas.

Ugh.

I had a feeling this would be the case, as the Eagles were being a little bit coy with Asante’s injury. Obviously, it was advantageous for the Eagles to let the Cowboys think there was a chance that Asante could play. But, G. just told me in a text that it looks like his injury is a little worse than we’ve been led to believe. This ain’t good.

I’ve said this before, but for all the complaining that we do about some things that Asante does, he’s clearly worth it. The defense is absolutely not the same with him out of the lineup. Joselio Hanson will take his place and I don’t think anybody is excited about that. It’s nothing personal, Joselio.

As for Justice, this could be a big problem too. King Dunlap will be filling in for him at right tackle. Dunlap did an admirable job filling in for Jason Peters recently, but you are asking him to do a lot. Peters is on the left side and now you are asking Dunlap to fill in on the right side. The switch isn’t as easy as people would like to think. And remember that Dunlap is a guy that we were accusing of not even being able to play football not too long ago.

How much do you see this affecting the outcome Sunday night?

He must rise to the occasion and must be given help and the Eagles must run the ball, throw slants, flares and screens to beat the rush.

Vick better be getting his icey hot stacked and ready for his back………. I swear…. King Dunlap is more like Prince Dunlap……. Hanson is just not worthy for the outside corner position……. That means no pressure from the safety position for Mikell to apply on Kitna……. Lb’s be aware…… Be Ready…… DL…. Pressure pressure pressure……… GO BIRDZ

Not a good sign,
Cowboys have LB’s Brooking, B James, S Lee all playing and it looks like S Sensabaugh and CB Scandrick will also play…
Cowboys 37- Eagles 26

paul, cowboys don’t score more than 21 unless Vick et al. turn ball over. That will not happen Reid had essentially a bye week, always strong. Eagles win this game, close though, and they do not want to go into ny without the mo

I am not so sure that VIck even finished this game Jakedog..
I sense a Kolb Sighting in the 2nd half. due to VIck getting knocked around and injured..

Didn’t Dunlap perform beyond just about everyone’s expectations when he replaced Peters a few games ago? I know the coaches had the backs chipping and kept Celek in to help Dunlap quite a bit but it wasn’t the disaster that most were predicting. Vick can make up for a bad performance from the King ( although I feel like he will be fine). The much more pressing concern to me is the absence of Asante. Hanson is a HUGE downgrade from Samuel. Patterson is the best option on the outside and I think we all know this. Not having Asante out there could make this game a shootout.

Paulyd, kitna not a big play qb, I am more concerned about resurgent running game and big o line of Dallas. Dallas approach will be to wear down the eagles d, not match eagles in a o strike fest.

Paulym, haha, trying to stir some controversy in the wee hours

Jake, yes you are right about Dallas wanting to control the ball, since Jason Garrett took over he’s been calling alot more running plays to protect Kitna, kind of reminds me of what the Birds did with Garcia. What I was saying though was since Asante has been out, the Eagle defense hasn’t really stopped anyone’s passing game. Both Cutler and Schaub pretty much shredded our secondary and for whatever reason Kitna is completing nearly 70% of his throws and not turning it over like he usually does. Miles Austin, Jason Witten and even Roy Williams are big, physical receivers that could give our undersized corners tons of problems. If we can jump out quickly behind one of Vick’s usual outstanding first quarters, then Dallas will be forced to play catch up and we can bring the house against the new Kitna and pressure him into becoming the old Kitna, the one that throws the ball to the other team.

To Paulydak,
Dunlap did play well at LT when filling in for Peters,
He started vs Falcons DE J Abraham who was nursing a hamstring and not 100% and took care of him for the most part..Now at RT, he is on Vick’s Blind Side, plus he will be going up against DE’s Spencer and Ware who are a updgrade over Abraham as far as health & Strength

Wish they’d use Lindley on the outside, he’s bigger, better matchup; leave Hanson in slot in nickel package.

Hope we pull this one out, have had extra time to prepare.
