Michael Vick has been saying all the right things for a good while now, but he did an interview with Mara Schiavocampo of NBC News and he said some things which could stir up some of the animal rights people.
He basically said he wants own a dog again. There’s nothing wrong with him feeling that way, but he should have kept it to himself.
“I would love to get another dog in the future”, Vick told Schiavocampo. “I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love and my passion for animals; I think it would be outstanding.”
The Eagles quarterback also talked about why he had gotten involved in dogfighting during his youth.
“I hate to use our culture as an excuse, but it is what it is and that’s what happened and that’s the way I thought about it growing up,” the quarterback said. “This is just the way we were brought up.”
If you read all that he had to say, it sounds quite genuine, but I expect this will stir up some reactions from people who can’t forgive him.
One guy who doesn’t think Vick owning a dog again would a bad thing is the president of the Humane Society, Wayne Pacelle. He told the Atlant Journal-Constitution, “I have been around him a lot, and feel confident that he would do a good job as a pet owner,”
Great article G! I think this has to do with Forgiveness. The man is showing he is genuine in his apology and his actions prove that. I think he should definitely be given the chance. He has been to hell and back. So knowing what hell is like, Im pretty damn sure Mike does not want to go back. I know Mike loves dogs and animals. He has done some very bad things, but I’ve seen videos of him playing with a dog, loving it, kissing it, laying down with it, etc. So definitely, if he can have his freedom, he should also be able to have his freedom in all areas of life. He has earned that. He wont mess up again
That might be part of his probation, no pets. I have done work with a few Humane/Rescue groups, and it is pretty standard to require a convicted individual to not have pets, or be in a position to be responsible for the care of animals. Personally, if he wants a dog and does not fight it, fine by me. But I do not know the terms of his probation, and its not up to me. It would be the single most scrutinized canine on the planet.
He has paid his price…wtf is owning a dog gonna hurt.Once he is off probation or whatever b.s. our b.s. legal system has him on he should be able too own a kennel. Name it Rocky for all i care.
Drug dealers hurt people,kill people, ruin lives and familys.They go too prison all the time and turn there lives around. Do great work in community centers and help society.He is no different.

Seriously, you are going to talk about drug dealers turning their lives around? Ever looked at the recidivism rates from released inmates? The majority of them are back inside in months, let alone years. Don’t justify or compare what Vick did to what other people did. Its a losing argument, both logically and legally. Find another way to say you do not care about what he did, come up with something better than “That other guy did worse.” The truth is, he has still not paid the whole price for what he has done, his probation is not completed. He is still in the system and subject to the rules thereof. You may think he has paid enough, but the gov’t does not see it that way. He is done when they say he is.
Im not talking about the majority of them…im talking about the ones who do turn it around. Im talking about criminals turing there life around. Not saying drug dealers are worse or better. You missed my point or i didnt make it clear enough. If they make it there purpose too turn it around they do.
The goverment is b.s. and the reason this country is run poorly.Good for them.

Probably not. I know of a case where a paroled father got in trouble for purchasing a horse for his daughter, even though he was not responsible for its care. He is most likely an “animal free zone”.

The people have spoken with their votes in the pro bowling. The league has spoken by its endorsement of Vick Even the judicial system has spoken when the judge who sentenced him said that he was very proud of Vick.
There will always be a vocal minority who make things seem worse than they are.
One thing is certain. The punishment did not fit the crime.

It’s fine, but this is definitely something that should have been held to the off-season. Most people stopped instantly associating him with the dog incident, but this set of quotes is probably going to be radioactive over the next several weeks creating all kinds of potential distractions.

Vick took 2 helmet to helmet hits. Got pushed out of bound on a play that if it had been Brady or Peyton, you would have got fined, arrested, and banned for the remainder of the season.

Andy should start Vick then pull him after one play and put in BabyArm. Then tell the league he’s saving Vick for the playoffs, because the league won’t protect him and he’s knows they will protect Kolb.

No need to throw gas on a fire. He appears in a good place now, playing well, winning games, leading Pro-Bowl votes…why stir up the old contraversy. I am sure he was just answering a question, but he should know that there are some very vocal people out there that will jump on any comment he makes about owning a dog.

In that case, I want to play Tom Brady ( you know, for the SB scenes when we beat them this time!!)…but my reasons for wanting to play him is for all of the rehearsals I will need to do with Guiselle. That would be worth the sacrafice!!
Personally, I am growing tired of all the dog fighting talk… The guy served his prison term and has cleared all hurdles to be where he is at this point… The continued hand wringing over the dog fighting is phony… these questions and articles only serve to stir people’s hatred and drive up ratings…
