Eagles Have A Good Chance To Be The Number Two-Seed

The Philadelphia Eagles secured the 2010 NFC East title, when the New York Giants lost to the Green Bay Packers yesterday in Wisconsin.  Right now they are slated to be the three-seed behind the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears in the upcoming NFL post season.

They have a chance to do even better.  The Philadelphia squad must win tomorrow night against the Vikings, as well as next Sunday against the Cowboys, then get some help from the Packers in their game next week against the Bears.  If they get that help they can capture the number two-seed in the NFC playoffs.

It’s definitely possible and I would even say probable after looking at the play of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense against the Giants defense on Sunday.  Rodgers was able to get the ball out of his hands very quickly against the New York pass rush and he systematically sliced up the Giants secondary.

He threw for 404 yards with four touchdowns against a Giants defense that’s still doubting themselves after surrendering all those points in the fourth quarter against the Eagles.

Rodgers should be able to do the same thing to the Bears defense, which allowed Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets to score 34 points on Sunday.  The Bears defense doesn’t look nearly as good as they did earlier in the year against the Eagles.  They’re not getting the pass rush which we saw then.

Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler is hot and cold, so there’s no telling how he will play.  He played well against the Jets by throwing for 3 touchdowns and one interception, that was returned for a touchdown.  Who knows how he will play next Sunday.  He’s capable of throwing for three or four touchdowns or three or four interceptions returned for touchdowns.

The Packers defense led by cornerback Charles Woodson and outside linebacker Clay Matthews is a quality group.  The Packers have lost key players on both sides of the ball, but they’re very capable of beating the Bears.

Green Bay also has plenty of motivation to find a way to win because a victory would put them in the playoffs.

We’ll have to wait and see, if the Eagles get help they need from the Packers, but they’ve got take care of their business against the Vikings and Cowboys.

Side note:  Speaking of the playoffs, which teams do you want to see the Eagles play in this year’s playoffs and which teams do you hope they avoid?

I never thought I would write this in my lifetime but I would rather not face the Saints.

Not play: Saints

They are defending Superbowl champs because their coach has b___s of steel. Andy can’t out coach this guy. Andy wilts under end of game pressure. He could not even throw a red flag in a regular season game, he would be parylized in a play-off game.

They would never give up and the Eagles defense would not hold up for a whole game against drew brees.

Play: Chicago

I would love to beat the bears in Chicago. They talk trash and it would be nice to deliver a beat down in Chicago.

I would also like to play Atlanta at Atlanta. Vick would play out of his mind in their dome and their coach would melt under the pressure of a championship game.

Finally, a new article. Sorry for the NFL owning you in your last article GCOBB.

This is how I WANT things to play out.

I want to get the first round bye and welcome the Packers (who will be the 5th seed because the Saints will lose to the Falcons and the Bucs next week and miss the playoffs and the Bucs will get the 6th seed) — the Packers will beat the Bears in the first round facing them in back to back weeks. We get revenge on the Packers and beat them rather handedly. Then we get ready to roll down to Atlanta after the Falcons beat the Bucs who completely dismantled the Rams the week before.

Then the stage is set. Michael Vick returns to the Georgiadome. Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons at the Georgiadome for a trip to the Superbowl and the NFC Championship.

You couldn’t script it any better.

I think the Packers beat the Bears. Not just because they are a very good team with Rodgers but because they want to be in the playoffs as well. Last home game of the season against a division rival for a playoff berth… that bodes well for us. As long as we take care of business I think we will be the number 2 seed. I think the Giants miss the playoffs because of this and I am glad because I do not want to face them anymore. We could have lost both games against them and I don’t want a division rival in the playoffs. They miss the playoffs and here are my playoff seedings:

1. ATL
2. PHI
3. CHI
4. STL
5. NO
6. GB

If it is
1. ATl
2. PHI
3. CHI
4. STL
5. NO
6. GB

Then best case scenerio in my preference would be Rams beating Saints and GB beating Bears. That will allow us to easily dispose of the Rams at home and have a good chance of playing in Philly for the NFC championship game if ATL los to GB.

I think the Eagles match-up well for a deep run in the playoffs except aginst the Saints & Packers
who are very similar to the Eagles as far as a pass-first offense..The playoffs will get down to how well the Teams QB will play and of course turnovers..
Which QB can you see playing 2-3 strong games in a row to lead their team into the Superbowl
Matt Ryan,Jay Cutler, Mike Vick,Sam Bradford, Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers….
I’ll take my chances with Mike VIck…

I think the way that the Eagles D is at the moment I would rather face a power running team than Brees or Rodgers. We are depleated in the secondary and lack a consistent pass rush. Eagles have excelled the second half of the season on stopping the run. I would rather face anyteam in the NFC except for Saints and GB due to their prolififc offenses. But I do think the Eagles will beat both of those teams @ home.

We need the bye week to rest the pass rushers. There tired and worn down. You can blame the secondary but the pass rush is just not there and the secondary is getting exposed because of it. GO green bay!!!

Maybe a fresh DE Derrick Burgess can make an impact during the playoffs,
DE’s T Cole & J Parker appear to have done their usual fade down the stretch..
The Eagles are getting decent pressure from up the middle in Dixon/Laws/Bunkley but not enough from the outside ends, unless they blitz which leaves a vulnerable Secondary more so…
CB SAmuel and S Mikell will have to play lights out for this Defense to be effective come playoff time

You know what sucks about next week? GB and Chicago play at 4:15 as well. If we knew the outcome of that game, we would know whether to play our starters or not next week. That kills me.

If Chicago won, we could sit our starters and let them get virtually a bye week. But no, of course things wouldn’t fall into play.

Some tidbits from around the NFL
49ers fire HC Singletary with 1 game left ?? Why ??? So they can talk immediately to Stanford Coach
J Harbaugh, if Harbaugh doesn’t take the position, look for the 49ers to pursue Eagles O/C MM once the Eagles Season is over and/or J Gruden.. but Harbaugh is their #1 Choice…
COwboys QB Kinta was injured and out for the final game leaving the Cowboys to start S McGhee
who is a 2 year player who played QB under Mike Sherman at Texas A&M and is very adept in running the west coast offense and a good accurate arm.. (Cowboys should have been playing this kid the last 2-3 weeks to see what he”s got instead of Kinta who is 38 years old..)
Browns – Coach Mangini will be let go after the season as they will also pursue O/C MM as it’s next HC..
Broncos – QB T Tebow led a comeback victory after being down 17 points to the fading Houston Texans.. In a unusual twist, will probably see Texans HC Kubiak, fired next week and then be hired by the Broncos as their next HC who will help further develop QB Tebow…Look for the Broncos to shop QB K Orton around who would draw interest from the Redskins,Cardinals,Panthers
Seahawks – QB M Hasselback is in his last days as a Seahawk, look for him to move this offseason
and possibly to NFC West rivals 49ers/Cardinals and maybe even the Raiders or Redskins..
Giants will fire HC Couglin is they lose this week and fail to make the playoffs, talk about hiring B Cowher will be at an all-time high this week and next and could very well occur..
Look for the Giants to address the Secondary,LB & RB positions as well as grooming a young QB for the future for Eli has not played to good down the stretch of this season again..
Redskins QB McNabb will be released and look for him to have talks with the Cardinals,49ers,Vikings and possibly the Dolphins as a landing spot
Dolphins will fire Coach T Sporano after the season with another average so-so season,
They spent a lot of $$ to acquire WR B Marshall and LB C Dansby and had a home record of 1-7 down in Miami which has cost them fans, advertising $$$ and now the Dolphins are competing for attention from the fans, local media with the NBA’s Miami Heat and new baseball park for the Florida Marlins..Expect a big-name coach like a Gruden, T Dungy,B Cowher to generate some excitement back into the Franchise..
Coaches of the Year award… NFC will be a tight one with Buc’s R Morris, Bears L Smith and
Falcons M Smith all getting kudos for a great job this season, also, Eagles A Reid may get some votes too… In the AFC, it has to go to Chiefs T Haley in leading KC to their first AFC West Divisional
Crown in years..
Coaches on the outs and there are a lot of them..
Panthers – J Fox
Bengals – M Lewis
Browns – E Mangini
Texans – G Kubiak
Dolphins – T Sporano
maybe Giants – T Couglin
Then add these to the Interim coaches and positions to be filled for the Cowboys,Vikings,Broncos,49ers and we could see almost a 1/3 of NFL Franchises changing leadership at the HC/Coaching Staffs,etc,etc..
I am not so sure the NFL will like all this instability and coaching changings, but it’s what you have you done for me latley league now that is predicated on winning..

Saints have zero rungame and defenses with speed in there secondary can play with them. Plus they would come here too play the Birds. Need a good rungame too match up with this D too be able too beat em on there on turf. Saints lack punch.

Bears would come here as well…as G stated Cutler is too sporadic. They barely beat us without Sante and at there place. No way Mike and the Boys go down twice too them.

Falcons…give me that team on there fast track down there…Mikes homecoming….a quarter of the stadium would be rooting for him and wearing his jerz.

Rams…beatdown.

Packers have a legit shot and would be a big match up with the way Rdgers seems to be locked in right now.But again…rungame is suspect. Yes they found one yesterday. But we have a nice run d now.

Keys to a deep playoff run. Run D..check.Playmakers in the secondary…check.Explosive and dynamic O….Check! Go Birds!

I know we lost Allen, but i dont consider outr secondary depleted.Patterson is fine as the right corner and Lindly will be given the chance too fight for that spot 11′.

I was watching an archieve interview of jim Byrene of Footballfacts.com on Eagles website and he said that the Eagles have when you include Vick the most (not one of the most) effective run game in the NFL since Jim Brown back in 1968. Wow wrap your head around that, he goes on to say that the Eagles far andbeyond are quietly the most effective run offensive this season over any team inthe league. Again wow.

He went on to say that an interception decreases the throwing teams chances to win by 20% per interception and increases the team that catches it by 20%. He says that though the Eagles give up points, there overwhelming abilitity to secure interceptions make them the equivalant of our offense as far as big play/ game changers.

let me just say wow and wow again. Vikings coming to town Get ’em, Cowgirls coming to town Get ’em, playoff games home or away Get ’em. So if we get town interceptions per game inthe playoffs we lower our opponents chance of winning by 40% and add that to the margin odds already given for our Offense.

I like those odds. Plus very few teams left on the dole has the personnel or the endurance to run with our offense if Andy and Marty turns them lose early and often and force teams to exhaust themselves. We ownthe fourth quarter….WooooW

Okay did I help make anyone any happier? Well Happy seasons to you, I tried. 🙂 🙂 🙂

As always LONG LIVE THE EAGLES and i know some object but to this but hell “EAGLE NATION LIVES” LOL

I think the Packers make a run to the NFC Championship game against us. For that to happen we would have to win our next 2 games. And the Packers beat the Bears in back to back weeks and then go on the road to beat ATL. I think it’s possible because besides everyone but the Rams can beat each other. I don’t want to see the Giants but I kinda wish they were in there for a awesome NFC playoffs. But oh well, I won’t cry about them missing it LOL.

grifft

December 27, 2010 1:50 pm

I’d prefer that we avoid the Giants, Packers, and/or Saints, but of the three I’d suggest we play the Saints. The Saints D is a lot like ours, but they’re not getting the turnovers they were getting last year. Plus, they don’t have the depth really working like it was last year offensively, so you can win a shoot out with them. Coupled with the fact that they’re not a good cold weather team, we can take ’em (there are no scenarios where we wouldn’t be playing the Saints, Packers, or Giants anywhere but in Philly).

I’d take the Pack next: the Giants last because our winning streak against them has to end, and if they don’t have a chip on their shoulder against us right now, no one does. You can beat the Pack by taking away timing routes and shutting down the running game: the Giants didn’t press much, and they got their butts handed to them for it – the Giants played lazy yesterday, in part a by product of the delayed Minny game throwing off their schedule, I think.

I have a feeling that we will be the 2 seed, and I have more of a feeling now that we need it because of the Tuesday game. If the Bears win next week, or we lose to the Vikes or Cowboys, we’ll be forced to a Wild Card game in two weeks. It could be 3 games played in a 12 day period (assuming a Saturday night game) in cold conditions. Not a good mix for us that third week…

Just for the heck of it on a Snow Day/Company holiday for others..
The Carolina Panthers secured the 2011 #1 Overall Draft pick for next NFL Draft in April..
This is a Franchise in turmoil, they have an ill Owner who is going a little “senile” in his old age and has become even more frugal than he used to be.. I see no way that the Panthers will keep that #1 pick and pay out all that guaranteed $$$ to an unproven player, it’s just not going to happen and I see the Panthers trading away that pick to fill the many other needs they have on this team and remmeber, the Panthers have no 2nd Round pick (#33 Overall) when they made a bone head trade with the Patriots last year to move up for a 3rd Rd pick in 2010 for Panthers 2nd Rd pick in 2011.

Let’s assume the Eagles lock in QB M Vick to a long-term deal which we all want to see happen

How about Trading QB K Kolb, DT Bunkley and the Eagles #1 Pick (around the 24th-26th pick) and their 3rd round pick (around the 80th pick) to the Panthers for the # 1 Overall Selection and Starting CB Richard Marshall…
Who would you like to see the Eagles draft at #1 —
How about DE Da’ Quan Powers from Clemson who at 6’4″- 275lbs may be the best complete DE to come out of College in a few seasons
How about CB P Peterson from LSU who at 6’1″-215 lbs could be that big shutdown CB to cover teams big Receivers or even converted to Safety as many NFL observors/scouts think he could excell at as well as a great return guy..
How about DT N Fairley from Auburn who at 6’5″ 300lbs could make the Eagles DT position with A Dixon one of the best Tackle tandems in the NFL securing a strong middle of the Defense for years
to come with Dixon/Fairley and MLB Cheney…
How about WR AJ Green from Georgia who at 6’4″ 215lbs finally gives the Eagles that big, leaping, strong, physical WR that they have been lacking since TO.. Many NFL Scotus say this kid has the best hands, route running ability coming out of College since WR Calvin Johnson came and Green has more pure Speed… Taking a player like him would also ensure that the Eagles WR Corps remains as one of the top ones in the NFL even if the Eagles would have COntract holdouts/problems or even if they wanted to Trade D Jax … lots of possiblities with AJ Green

Birdo, I agree that last game kills us. But look at it this way, we were supposed to play at 1 anyway so our game would have been before their game. Remember they are playing a different time zone so they have to get the later game. Here’s my question do you think the players will be scoreboard watching during the game? Just a little peak here and there?

Why on Earth would we want the first pick in the draft? What makes you think that your valuation of players and picks is even worth getting to 1? How many of those players would be available lower than one because there’s one 1 #1 pick?

I’d say we should get Santa Claus with the first pick. He’s got the speed to be a shut down corner, and that pack of his must way a few hundred tons in order to fit all the presents. His leaping ability would have to be off the charts, too. He’s got the endurance to go all night, so he’s got to be able to play both ways (and special teams). He may only be good for one game a year, but oh, what a game!

To Grifft,
Santa Claus would be a very poor choice,he has Diabetes,Gout and a Liver Problem (alcohol related) and most likley would not pass the Team Physical…

And If the rest of you fans are all honest with yourselves..
The Eagles do not deserve a #2 Seed, they lost their chance when they lost to the Bears a few weeks back after falling behind 31-13 in the 3rd Quarter before Vick had a strong finish to make the final score closer than the game really was and the Eagles D made QB Cutler look like Joe Montana..
Who cares what times the games are.. the Eagles have to win their final 2 games and the Bears have to lose their final Game.. In the Final Sunday both the Eagles and Bears play at 415pm so they both will be suiting up trying to win the game like they should be..

Paulman, to say the Eagles “lost their chance” is ridiculous. If thats the case, the Bears should have lost their chance to play in the National Football League after what the Pats did to them at Soldier field. Or the Redskins should lose their chance at life after what we did to them on Monday night. It’s any given sunday. The game isn’t won on paper — it’s won on the field when it matters.

He would pass every physical known to man, because he’s freakin’ Santa Claus. YOU try to lift a bag of toys that would weigh 380,000 tons if every child is to get a measly two pounds worth of presents (assuming he delivers to only about 1/6 of the 2 billion kids on the planet, that is). Plus, what Dr in their right mind WOULDN’T pass Santa on a physical. The brass would be foaming at the mouth for a chance to sell the Claus Jersey. Tebow who? We’ve got St. Nick!

scorpiodsu
scorpiodsu
December 27, 2010 2:53 pm

paulman to say that they “do not deserve a #2 seed” is even more ridiculous. You can say the same thing about the Bears if they lose to the Packers that they don’t deserve the number 2 seed. If you win 12 out of 16 games then you deserve the seed you get, whether that be #1 or #4. So what we lost to the Bears. That doesn’t mean we don’t “deserve” a higher seed than them. If that’s the case, ATL doesn’t deserve the #1 because we beat the brakes off of them with our backup QB.
