It’s Jim Mora, Dick Jauron And Bill Davis For Eagles “D” Coordinator’s Job

Philly.com and ESPN are reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles have contacted former Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora Jr. about becoming their defensive coordinator. Of course  Mora was the head coach of the Falcons when Michael Vick was the quarterback of Atlanta.

Mora is part of the coaching circle which includes Eagles offensive coordinator of Marty Mornhinweg.   He and Mornhinweg were on the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff together when Steve Mariucci was the head coach.

Philly.com and ESPN are reporting that Mora is a leading candidate for the Birds defensive coordinator’s job along with Dick Jauron and former Cardinals defensive coordinator Bill Davis.

I haven’t heard about any time table to name the new defensive coordinator, but next week the Eagles coaching staff will head south to Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl.  I would imagine the Birds would like to have their defensive staff in place by them.

I like Mora Jr, he always did a pretty good job as a DC, now I know he has a pretty big ego too and likes to be involved in everything..If he’s ok going back to a DC level then great.. I know he does know Coaches AR/MM pretty well, so I am sure there is a genuine like & respect for each other..
Bill Davis was DC for Arizona Cardinals the last few years and ran a base 3-4 Defense, I know ther Defense took a big hit this year after losing 2 All-Pro players thru Free-Agency in Saftety A Rolle and LB Karlos Dansby so their Defensive #’s slipped in 2010 and also the fact that the Cardinals had no QB and very little offense all season long made matters worse.. I am not sure of his backgound beyond that
How about Eric Mangini or Randy Shannon (former Universitry of Miami Coach) who was fired last month.. he’s a young Defensive guy (probably early 40’s) who has coached and taught a lot of College players up the Pros and since he was a solid recruiter, he should be a good talent Evaluator and especially for the Defense which is his specialty..

i just did research this weekend analyzing what the past Super Bowl winners did and did not do since 1988. They all ran the ball atleast 28 times even if their rb were averaging 3 yds a carry. This year McCOY ave 5.1 Harrison 6.1 Another fact is SB teams had 2 Defense players with atleast 10 Sacks. This year it was Cole with 10 no one else close. Eagle Sb yr top person with sacks was Kearse with 7.5 next person had 6. Always one of two was a LB and Steelers in both SB wins had two people with 10 or more sacks and they were LB

Manning only Super Bowl win, Colts ran 42 times. Colts SB loss last year ran 18. Patriots loss to Giants ran 16 times. Patriots SB against our Eagles 28. Eagles with Westbrook averaging 5.2 in the SUPER BOWL what does ANDY REID do? runs 16 times

@tydm…I know that it might be a little dated, but I believe that Dick Vermiel had a theory about the offense…and that theory was that to be successful on offense you take the total runs in a game and add them with the total pass completions and you look to stay above 50 for that total. I will take a look at the playoff games this year and see how the winners vs the loser rated in this equation.

Why is Mike Singletary not being considered?

btc24…I wondered the same thing…I loved him as a player and like the intensity that he brings to his coaching.

I wouldn’t doubt that he might be too intimidating to Banner and Roseman to consider??

Seriously. We need some tenacity on this defense and Singletary would be just that guy. Also, I’d love to see them switch to a 3-4, which I think Singletary ran in SF didn’t he?

Mora would be an awful hire…..he’s a terrible coach with a last name propelling him through. If he hires Mora or that still from the Cardinals….he should be fired immediately. Jauron is the best hire here…

Paulman’s top Picks

#1) D Jauron — The fact he hasn’t been annouced tells me he’s leaving Philly for the Cleveland job
#2) E Mangini– A proven DC who has the right personality to succeed here in the Philly
#3) R Shannon — Former HC of the University of Miami, would bring enthusiam, eye for talent and physical play back to Philly

or a side note.. .Maybe theEagles should talk to Urban Meyer to see if he’s interested in becoming the Next HC of the Eagles..

I am suprised that it is coming down to these three for the DC job … I really would not be happy with any of them.

Also, how is Bill Davis even being considered for this job? When was the last time anyone talked about how great the Cardinals D was? This is just ridiculous …

Cardinals Defense was decent in 2008/2009 and did beat the Eagles Offense in the NFC Championship game Doc…
They were bad last year as the entire Cardinal team was and lost 2 All-Pros from their Defense in
Safety A Rolle and LB K Dansby thru free-agenct..
I would like to see how the Eagles D would look if you removed A Samuel and T Cole from it..
C’Mon Doc…

How about Packers DL Coach Mike Trgovac who was a fomer DC of the Panthers for some 4-5 years
when they have a solid Defense a few yars back,, Trgovac has been with the Packers for 2 years now
and has experience both in the 4-3 and 3-4 schemes and has coached under George Siefert,Tom Coughlin, John Fox and now Dom Capers so he has learned for some good ones… He’s a quiet,
yet intense fella who just goes about his business and would fit in well with the Eagles way of doing things..
