GCobb.com Pro Bowl Chat

They’ve song the National Anthem and the players are getting ready to get started in Honolulu, Hawaii for this year’s Pro Bowl.  Michael Vick and David Akers will be representing the Eagles in the football game.

Ashely Fox wrote an outstanding article about David Akers and his young daughter’s health challenges.  I want to know what everybody thinks of the Pro Bowl.  Is it worth playing and do you enjoy watching it.

Does anyone think VIck has peaked as a QB, can he improve, how high is his ceiling..
What are the 2-3 things that he needs to improve on the most, Is playing for a pass-happy Offense like
Coach AR/MM schemes and play calling good for his longevity as Pro QB..
Can the Eagles win a game without having VIck to be superman and and just managing the game..

G,

what is your take on the David Akers situation? Now that it has come out that his daughter has cancer and he was dealing with that during the playoff game. It was kind of sick for Andy to call him out after the loss. Do you think the 2 sides will part ways now?

I just want to point out that I am not a guy that calls for Reid’s head. But to throw his kicker under the bus the way he did all while knowing the situation Akers was in is uncalled for.

Paulman, I think Vick has not reached his full potential. I agree with GCobb that he has to improve his play recognition seeing the blitz before it happens, if they run the ball more and successfully they won’t need vick to be superman

Profootballtalk has a new blog up about Darren Perry not being the guy the Eagles covet. Do you have an insight of who may be the guy the Eagles really want? Is it Winston Moss, Kevin Greene, Keith Butler or even dare I say Dick LeBeau? I know Lebeau is a long shot but what about the other guys?

The only thing I fear about them going after anyone from the Packers or Steelers is that they will run a 3-4. Who is the best choice for them to pursue?

Ya the interception by Fletcher where nobody really tried to tackle him. They were all just trying to surround him and wrap him up.

Does Moss have that fiery personality that Philly fans love? I think people hate on some of the Eagles coaches sometimes because they don’t always show that passion.

Do you believe that LB coaches seem to make the best D-coordinators in the league?

The NFL Pro-Bowl is a disservice to the Sport.. It’s all in a good time and no one takes it seriously..
It’s hard to aply a full contact sport at 1/2 speed..
Check the NHL All-Star GAme this afternoon and I think the score was 11-10 which is exciting for
fans to see all the goals, but there is no checking, players are not skating full speed so it’s just a show to put on for the fans like Football..

Also if there is free agency i think the birds should go after Jonathan Joseph an Dwan Landry instead of Nnamdi. They could get both of them for probaly less or the same as Nnamdis gonna get. Plus there younger would u agree G?

This is sickening to be honest. I can’t watch this, enjoy it, and still call myself a football fan. I changed the channel.

Shocking! Never would have expected NFC to be up 35-0. Well, got to see Vick, Akers play, now it’s time to change the channel.

jdubb84,
Bengals have publicly stated that they will place Franchise Tag on CB Joseph.
Joseph also sai publicly that he woudn’t take any offense being Franchised and would love to staay in Cincinnati, so you can take him off your availalbe Free-Agent List
I do like Safety Dwan Landry a lot and think he is a very underrated player who plays in the shadow of All-Pro Ed Reed but is a stand-out in his own rite.. Also the Ravens will Franchise DT Ngata which will make Landry avaialable on the market… (The Cowboys & Jets are very interested in him as well)

jdubb84,

I rather have Nnamdi. I know he is older (will be 30 by time 2011 season starts), but he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, and although Joseph is good…… Nnamdi is lights out. If I were rating the CBs, the top 2 would be Revis and Aso alone, then a big gap to the 3-whatever. Revis and Aso are just so much better than the other CBs in the league. Also, I look at it like this….. You can probably get at least another 3-4 good/great years out of him. How long of a contract do you really expect the Eagles to sign Joseph for? And Joseph will be 27, so when he hits 30 and possibly starts to decline….. It will be a lot more noticeable with him than Aso, because of how good Aso is. So, you might only get 3-4 good years out of Joseph. You might get 7, but I doubt the Eagles would even sign him that long, if they were to sign him.

One thing though that I think a lot of people are overlooking….. The Eagles signed Marlin Jackson last year to a 2 year deal. He was supposed to be the starting FS. I doubt he will start over Nate Allen now, but he might start in place of Mikell if they don’t resign him, or maybe he will be the starter opposite of Samuel (Please no).

We get it tydm, the Eagles don’t run the ball. I think we all know that already. You’re still wrong about Reid being such a bad coach and worse than Fisher and quite frankly….. It is pointless even complaining about it, because nothing you say on here will change what the Eagles are gonna do. It is one thing to announce your displeasure of Reid and his coaching style here and there on articles about him, but to go on an on non-stop about it on every article with like 10 posts each about it…… It is annoying and quite pointless. You being mad and going on and on about it on here isn’t gonna change the Eagles mind. They aren’t suffering by you complaining about it non-stop on here, we are.

@Gcobb lolol, there better off eliminating the probowl all together. players are afraid to get hurt so theyre not going 100%. all in all VICK looked pretty solid esp being that there was no real pass rush (blitzers) lol

I don’t expect the players to go all out and possibly injure themselves. They really aren’t playing for anything important. It is a time to celebrate being recognized as the best in your sport and position for the year. Hell, that is why they do it in Hawaii. Does anyone really care what conference wins? I mean, I know I want the NFC to win, and that is who I am cheering for, but if they lost…… I wouldn’t care a bit. It is a meaningless game. It is just a good time to watch all these great players on the field at the same time playing a good old fun game of football.

i think i am right. Fisher face Steelers twice,Ravens twice and Patriots and chargers …lately he faced Colts twice, usually play Patriots,sTeelers and Ravens that is 5-6 tough games a yr. Reid had 1-2 tough games a yr in weak NFC if u do that math it really adds up

@JDubb, no longer do i wanna hear about a players “age”. That 30 and older get rid of them mentality is only believed by the eagles not the rest of the league. Ray lewis, Champ Bailey, Vick, London Fletcher and the list goes on with players that are 30 and older all are very productive. So yes i feel they should go get Nnandi and or Haynesworth if possible. That will sure up alot of weaknesses the Birds have

So many reasons to fire reid,,,the only thing people say is look at his wins…but they don’t realize in NFC he only plays 1 or 2 tough games. When EAGLES played Steelers and Ravens in same yr about 2 yr ago Ravens killed us and we barely beat Steelers 15-13 man, can u imagine playing Ravens and Steelers again the same year like other AFC teams….think about it

See this is what I mean by Some Eagle Fans Perception: TYDM says that we lost to the Ravens and barely beat the big mean steelers, but in his mind he is saying we lost to both teams, while in truth we beat one of his mean ol teams making Reid 1-1, just like those mean teams he keep bringing up.

Ho hum, if you are selling me that the Eagles are not a real competitive team over the last 12 years, well then just don’t count on that commission check brother. And yes the steelers beat up on a lot of bums also, and for awhile the Ravens were one of those bums just saying.

As always LONG LIVE THE EAGLES

I definitely think that Vick can improve and will imporve on his reads, bitz pick-ups,quiker release, etc, etc, What I do question is how much will the Eagles in invest to improve this O/Line
and how much will Coach AR/MM adjust thier game plans to have more balanced attack..
If Vick is expected to pass 65% of the snaps, he will not last a entire season, this I think we can all agree on.. We can’t rely on VIck being Superman week after week..

Common sense tells us that if we played Steelers and Ravens again we would probally end up 1-3 in 4 games but Reid had easy weak NFC ….Vick had time to understand blitzes last 2 years…to get sacked first play of Packers game is sad and worse Reid did not run

Eagles versus the top 8 teams that made the Divisional Round this Playoffs this year
(Steelers,Packers,Jets,Bears,Ravens,Patriots, Falcons, Seahawks) would go 2-6 and maybe with a break or 2 go 3-5,, They simply are not talented or balanced enough to beat the better teams..

Monolith
Monolith
January 31, 2011 5:25 pm

Paul, I am guessing that you are giving us the Falcon, seahawk games right? So i am thinking that your “with a break” game would be who the packers? Okay I’ll take those. So the jets are to much for us uh? We win that game by virtue of staying ahead on points, they are not really a scoring team, and we 80% of the time are. Patriots I might give you that one but we play them well and close everytime. Of course we are talking about the current teams. We can beat the Bears you know that.

So my call is 4 wins: Bears, Jets, Seahawks, Falcons. 2 Close loses: Pats and Packs. And 2 Toss ups: Steelers and Ravens
