Report: Eagles Request Permission To Interview Bears Secondary Coach

It seems that the Eagles are jumping all over the place in their search for a new defensive coordinator.  Now they’re interested in a Bears secondary coach.

According to Adam Caplan of Foxsports, the Philadelphia Eagles have asked permission of the Chicago Bears to interview their secondary coach Jon Hoke for the Birds open defensive coordinator’s position.

Hoke had coached for the Houston Texans before joining the Bears in 2009.  He had been a secondary coach for the Texans under Dom Capers since 2002 and was retained when Gary Kubiak took over for Capers in 2005.

Why not cover all your bases – while waiting for a few key guys to become available AFTER the SB! Nobody thought Andy would get the eagles job – much less become the winningest coach in Eagles history.

The way this EaglE Secondary has played over the last 2 Years with 58 TD Passes allowed,
I think Songs,Vinnie the VIctor and even Run DMC would be an improvement…

This is very disturbing. Why wouldnt you interview this guy last week? Why would you interview him at all if you have a “deal” already set with someone else? This seems like the Eagles were not prepared for this and that Reid definetly didnt fire McDermott.

Word on the street Daggolden is they came across Hoke’s resume on “Monster.Com” …

I think it is pretty clear the Eagles want a DB coach to be their new D-Coordinator. I mean, the 3 guys that were the main targets early on (Allen, Mora Jr, and Jauron) have all been DB coaches. They reportedly want to interview Darren Perry (DB coach), and now request permission for John Hoke (DB coach). I wonder if they planned on asking permission for Dennis Thurman too, but maybe got scared away because they rejected Oaklands request. Maybe they are getting scared now that they might have too much competition for Perry and fear not getting him, or maybe all this is just a ruse to steer everyone away from who they are really targeting. Before I would have thought Trgovac, but Trgovac reportedly isn’t going anywhere.

I hope they get a guy that can instill some nastiness in our Defense. After watching and listening to the hits the Steelers were delivering, I don’t know if anyone on our D could crack their lineup.

Gold standard in making money, nothing else, eagles are third behind phils and flyers, and could be 4th if sixers continue to improve and Reid, banner, Lurie Rosen continue with downward spiral

Let’s wait and see who they hire before we act like Angelo and his band of loosers.

DixieFan:
I wouldn’t gloat over Reid’s record as Eagles coach, after all, nobody else coached here that long. Additionally, if Vermeil hadn’t had the breakdown, I’d be willing to bet he’d hold the record for most wins, winning percentage and probable SB win. Reid was also handed a very good defense from Rhodes and proceeded to let it go right down the tubes in recent years.
Note also that Greasy Neale is the winningest coach all-time for Eagles percentage-wise…66.7% vs Reid’s 61.8% plus TWO NFL CHAMPIONSHIPS in fewer years!!!!!!! Reid is so overrated!! There are lots of other coaches who got a lot of wins but no championships… George Allen, Chuck Knox, Shottenheimer, etc.

Man..u may be right…Eagles are 3rd and could be 4th the way the Sixers have been playing. Not much demand for the Eagles..I barely got face value for my Eagles playoff tix…Try getting Phillies playoff tix for face value..it will never happen.

true of false: WHEN you hire your new DC is more important than WHO you hire for DC.

If that’s true, then hiring Vince Lombardi, Cowher, Gruden, Madden, LeBeau, Peyton, Belicheat, ANYONE….

would be worse than hiring rory segrest for DC right now.

If you think the last two paragraphs were ridiculous, then

A) You are correct.

AND

B) Who is more important then when.

And we don’t know who. Nope. We don’t.

So good or bad, + FO or -FO, doesn’t matter.

What matters is WHO. And we just plain DONT KNOW.

So going negative at this point is absolutely baseless and missing the point!

This would be a terrible hire even though i think there just interviewing this guy for the hell of it. The best canidate is winston moss since trgo said hes not interested. From everything i’ve read he is very well respected has alot of coaching expeirence an knows the 4-3. I hope they dont hire darren perry hes been mostly a 3-4 guy an IMO i dont think he’d be a good fit here if thats the way they go i’ll be dissapointed an they should have just kept sean mcd. I mean the defense is not the reason they lost the playoff game holding green bay to 21 pts is pretty good. They lost because fat boy an marty refuse to run the ball an always put the entire game on the qb did it with mcnabb now with vick. Being in the shotgun 80% of the game is a disgrace its like I’m watching the florida gators until fat boy changes his philosphy which probaly wont happen we will continueto have this convo.

I’m lost…. How are we going negative when we’ve already done the most important part….. Fire mcsofty.

We already have a better 5 staff in place… Our 5 line coach is better than anything we had last year.

I’m giving Eagles benefit of the doubt here and sticking with my initial assumption that the Eagles are once again posturing; trying to avoid tampering charges and just going through the motions to act like they don’t know who they are hiring. What you guys have to keep in mind is that if the Eagles have a deal already on the table with one of the coaches in the Superbowl, then it’s tampering and the Eagles would be in some sh*t. So lets hope they did tamper and they have their guy. Hopefully we will know in another week.
