Phil Simms Apologizes For His Threats To Desmond Howard

Former New York Giants Super Bowl winning quarterback and CBS NFL analyst Phil Simms has apologized for his threats to kick ESPN college analyst Desmond Howard’s butt because he said some critical things about Simms’ son, Matt, who is a quarterback at the University of Tennessee.

According to Howard, Simms has threatened him at a Super Bowl function because he said Phil’s son Matt was one of the worst quarterbacks in the (SEC) Southeastern Conference.  Simms didn’t like it and threatened to punch Howard until the police stepped into break it up.

“It’s over,” Simms said Tuesday on FOXSports.com.  “And, you know, and I’m sorry. I really, I mean this, I’m sorry it happened.  I really am because even if it remained private, there’s still nothing gained.  So I’ve learned another lesson.”

The former Giants quarterback also let it be known that he didn’t like the fact that Howard made his threats public.

“Well, of course I am,” Simms said.  “But it is what it is.  It’s a great lesson learned, and of course I’m not excusing myself.  You know, I’ve got to know better.  It’s a new day and age . . .  And, you know, you’ve got to know that I think about those things all the time.  It’s just not good on my part, either.  I understand that.”

I commend him for sticking up for his son, but threatening somebody isn’t the way to do it.  He should get that kid on the field and work with him more because Howard wasn’t lying when he criticized him.

Word of Wisdom:  Howard is much smaller than Simms.  Would he have gotten so angry if the one who said it was Tony Siragusa?  It makes me think of the guys who beat their wives.  They tell the police that they lost their temper.  Somehow these same guys don’t lose their temper when they get mad at somebody who is 6’6″ and 340 pounds.

The truth is that people go off when they think they can get away with it.  Simms got very angry when he saw how small Howard was.
