Who is the best team in Philadelphia right now?

Football is all done and baseball has yet to start. So if you don’t like hockey or basketball right now, you are probably pretty bored with sports.

But, this question came up the other night and it got a few Philly fans into quite the debate. Who is the best team in Philadelphia right now?

The Eagles are a good team that just won their division. They’ve got playmakers and some new blood on the coaching staff, but are they the best team in Philly? I don’t think you’ll get anyone to make that argument.

The Sixers are getting better. I’ll leave it at that.

So now, the real decision comes. The Flyers have 75 points, the most in the conference and good for 2nd in the NHL behind the Vancouver Canucks. They made a deep run in the playoffs last season that came to an end in the Stanley Cup. This is a phenomenal team that might have a better chance this year to win it all than last year (don’t discount how nice it was that they didn’t have to take on Pittsburgh or Washington). Are they the best team in Philly right now?

Or is it the mighty Phillies, who have maybe the best rotation in the history of baseball on paper? Are they better than the Flyers?

I think it might come down to how you view the Flyers’ goaltending concerns with potential issues with the Phillies’ batting order. Sure, they have the aces, but how good will Dom Brown be? Is he the answer in right field or is Ben Francisco going to see a lot of time? Will Raul Ibanez get really old this year?

This is a tough call. I can’t decide. What do you think?

Phillies and Flyers are best teams easily in Philly. The Phils have already won it all recently and followed it up with another Series appearance, plus this pitching staff is out of this world. Flyers had extremely successful playoff run last year and now sitting 7 places higher than last year with a much better defense, and a favorite for Finals appearance.
Sixers are growing/improving, while the Eagles (Reid) have been a paper tiger.
