“I’ll be 100 percent for training camp,” injured Eagles rookie safety Nate Allen said about his knee yesterday at the Eagles Nova Care Complex. “I’ll be running into April – cutting and planting and all of that — and getting back into the groove of things.”
He’s out of the knee brace and going through the excruciatingly painful process of having his knee forcibly bent and the scar tissue from the operation broken down. Allen said he’s bending it about 110 degrees now.
“The brace has come off and I’m just trying to get the motion back and get it strong,” Allen said as he made his way from the training room to the cafeteria on Wednesday in the Nova Care Complex. “By the end of March I’ll be jogging on it and stuff. I’m walking in the pool and doing some balance stuff on it and strength stuff like squats. I feel good. I’m happy where I am. It feels good to be out of the brace.”
The second round draft pick told me that he’s up there every day working with the trainers as he goes through the rehabilitation process. He ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee in the next-to-last regular season game against the New York Giants. If he is ready to go at training camp that would mean recovering in only 7 months which would be quite an accomplishment.
It’s good that he has that attitude but I don’t think he can be so sure about being 100% for camp. His youth will serve him well, because younger players definitely recover faster, but different players recover at different speeds.
A work stoppage could be detrimental to this youngster’s dreams of a rapid recovery because on March 4th he’ll have to stop going to the Nova Care Complex. Thankfully and wisely, he’s got another place in mind to take over on that date. It’s a highly regarded facility, Athletes Performance in Arizona.
“I know it’s a real good place,” said Allen. “When I was out there before the (2010) combine I pulled my quad and they got me back 100 percent. So I’ve got a lot of faith in them. I know (teammate) Marlin Jackson will be there.”
Can someone please get Nate Allen as far as possible and away from
Marlin Jackson, He doesn’t need that bad Karma and Luck to follow him
around like it has for MJ..
I really think it’s unrealistic to expect Allen,Graham,DT J Owens to be ready 100% for the start of the 2011 Season.. I think all 3 could end up on PUP list and be eligible to come to active roster in mid-October and hopefully can contribute down the stretch
Paulman- Remember Walter Brennan and Chester the Deputy. Even with their limps they were dutiful.
do you mean from”Twin Peaks” ha ha
On a side Note..
Read yesterday that Falcons released Safety Erick Coleman who use to play for the Jets a couple years back, I think Coach Zordich also coached and kows him well..He’s about 30 and more of a sown in the box safety who may be a good option to look at for a short-term player at Safety.
especially if Eagles lose Mickell to Free-Agency (whch I think they will) and
in the event that Allen gets delayed in his rehab/return and of course I am not counting on Marlin Jackson to be fit to play for anyone next year..
wouldn’t earl thomas look good about know!

The biggest mistake of the entire 2010 Draft for the entire league in my opinion..
The Eagles will regret not choosing Safety Earl Thomas over DE B Graham for years to come… A playmaker, a Perennial Pro-Bowl type of player who was
NFL Ready from the get-go and will probably play 10-12 years who happens to play at a position of need for the Eagles and they trade 2 3Rd Round picks to move up 11 spots and don’t select him him… Unbelievable, most Draft Observors had Graham graded in a #20 thru #27 range, but not at #13..
They gave up too much to move up and not get a playmaker who can be the centrerpeice of your Secondary for the next decade… huge mistake that still pisses me off to this day… I have to take a walk outside
Skip training camp and let the knee heal.
I remember when vetrans use to “hold out” all the time just to miss training camp the “miraculously” sign a new deal or report as soon as camp was over.
Get healthy all the way. Don’t do like WR curtis and be scared of losing your job and come back too soon.
i am sorry for ruining your day / afternoon paulman .sometimes the eagles refuse to do the obvious.
Biggest mistake of the entire league? Yea the numerous high picks who looked lost or maybe didn’t even see the field weren’t bigger mistakes? Be a bigger clown with your post. Graham showed signs of progress before the injury, it didn’t help he had a terrible DL coach and McDerrmott moving him everywhere but DE. Graham will be fine, we get it…you’re an Earl Thomas nutswinger
With the way the current coaches are talking about making the playbook simpler, and how some of the players said about it being too much……. Thomas could have came in here and played worse than Allen. I would have rather had Thomas…… I had him as my #1 player that I wanted the Eagles to target last year, but Allen didn’t do bad. Picking Graham looks bad right now, but time will tell.
Who’s to say thomas wouldn’t have gotten the same injury allen did?
schiller….that’s a stupid statement….that would apply to any player taken in the draft…the 1st or last…..who is to say that he won’t be injured in a car accident…or a terrorist attack….or be injured during an attack of a pack of killer gerbals….but that is a reason to correlate the value of 2 different draft picks?
Paulman’s Mock Draft, once the Eagles made the Deal to trade up was this..
1st Rd (#13) Safety Earl Thomas
2nd Rd (#37) OLB Kosa Misi (picked by the Dolphins at #39)
2nd Rd (#55) Instead of trading this pick to the Cowboys
OG V Ducasse (picked by the Jets at #58)
If the Eagles did not make Trade and stayed where they were and kept those 3rd Rd Picks, then Paulman’s Mock Draft was like this..
1st Rd (#24) CB Devin McCoutry (All-Pro in Rookie season w/PAtriots)
2nd Rd (#37) S Nate Allen
2nd Rd (#55) OG Vic Ducasse (who went to the Jets at #58)
3rd Rd (#70) DE Alex Carrington (who went to the BIlls at #72))
3rd Rd (#87) TE Tony Moeaki (who went to the Chiefs at #93)
Instead of ending up with 5 of the top 100 rated players if they stayed put,
The Eagles ended up Graham,Allen and Teo Neisham and only 3 of the
top #100 Rated Players and most draft observors had Teo out of the top #100 and a really closer to a #125-#150 Ranked player and more of a 4th Rd pick
Hindsight is always 20/20 Pman…
Just for the record,
I thought the Eagles should have stayed pat last year and concentrated on
getting 5 good players at postions of need out of the top 3 Rounds which they
blew a good opportunity to do last year once the trade up move was made..
Now for 2011 Draft, (which is a weaker overall class) I think the Eagles
should concentrate the 1st 3 Rounds on DL/OL/LB which is where the quality and depth are in this draft.. It’s not a deep Draft at CB/S/RB/TE/WR
so the few good ones will be off the board early
Eagles have the following 9 Selections in 2011 Draft
1st Rd (#23)
2nd Rd (#54)
3rd Rd (#86)
4th Rd (#104) – (from the Redskins in the McNabb Deal)
4th Rd (#118)
5th Rd (#146) – (from the Chargers)
5th Rd (#150)
6th Rd (#182)
7th Rd (#215)
SInce having so many Draft picks make the Eagles Team from last years class, maybe the Eagles can package some 5th/6th/7th Rd Selections for future picks in 2012 or to move up in the Earlier Rounds to get that special player.. Once after the top #125 Picks or so and thru the 4th Round, the talent and quality really drops off in this years class.
hey BigE…Chester the Deputy….wasn’t that Dennis Weaver from Gunsmoke?
